It was my impression that men do have some remnants of hardware so in theory, lactation is possible (as in can produce negligible amounts of milk when pumped full of harmful hormones). I went from there, however, first thing I found is that men's breast tissue, while it shows similarities to healthy female breast tissue, doesn't have lobulars. Lobulars are - as far as my non-medfag ass understands - the actual glands who produce the milk. The ducts then extend from those toward the nipple. Basically, men's milk ducts are just pipes without a source.
Now, there are very, very rare cases where men do have them, and they also can get the lobular breast cancer women can get. Most cases of male breast cancer involve the ducts. Just to give you an idea how rare the lobular cancer cases are in men: less than 1 % of all breast cancer cases are men, and 1% of those involve lobulars. The article I read cited 2 cases.
So far, so good, I thought, so back to the troons.
Then I searched for an article about induced lactation in troons, and boy, oh boy.
First, I found this thing here.
Trans* Pregnancy and Lactation: A Literature Review from a Nursing Perspective
Quote from the abstract: "However, there are a few biological differences between male and female breast tissue. Lactation and pregnancy are viable processes that do not depend on sex. Even for the latter, it is only necessary to have an organ capable of gestation."
So, that was a good starting point into my journey growing a stupid-induced aneurysma, but I powered through. Regarding troons breastfeeding (of course, for male troons the term breastfeeding is a-ok as it is an important affirmation of their femininity ...)
"The breast tissue that develops, using the standard estrogen hormone, is
radiographically and histologically indistinguishable from that of any cisgender woman. Tissue changes derived from a therapy with high estrogen levels during the transition, unlike what happens in gynecomastia, leads to the development of galactophores ducts, lobes, and alveoli. This way, the glandular volume increases, which also turn out to be identical to that of cisgender women [2]."
I mean, of course troon do every woman thing as well as women, if not better, including growing perfect, perky, milky boobs faster, just by injecting/ingesting some horse piss. Humble female that I am, I went on to admire the source cited and ... pfft, lol, those moobs don't look anything like a healthy female breast in a mammogram. But you know what they do look like?
GYNECOMASTIA.
Then I went on and found the
case study where they used pregnancy hormones and domperidone to induce lactation in a TiM. Citing that their partner was expecting and 'had no interest in breastfeeding'. Fun fact about domperidone for those who don't know: it's an antiemetic, and is used off-label for inducing lactation. They had to get it from Canada as the FDA forbids the tablets for induced lactation because of unknown risks for the nursed infant. But what's really important is that troons can feel gender affirmation, right, what's some human experimentation on an infant who cannot consent.
They state also that the "pleasant, well-nourished" patient was able to feed the infant for 6 weeks before supplementing with formula due to concerns with milk volume. A pediatrician attested good health to the infant.
The article raves about how good breast milk is for infants and how superior it is to formula. What the article doesn't tell the interested reader is whether the nipple discharge of that TiM was up to those high quality standards of that magical ambrosia that is breast milk. (All sarcasm aside, I understand that breast milk is the most well-suited source of nourishment for a (normal) baby, but unlike those fuckers who wrote the article I also understand not every woman is blessed with the ability to do so and formula has prevented mountains of starved or sickly infants over the decades. But who cares about cis women and their gross female problems, right ...)
