Is it weird to say this game is actually giving its characters a bit more developed personalities past the usual goofy stuff?
No, it is actually one of the things this game does well. You could argue Ian goes a bit too overboard with it and trying to fix the last decade of shitty handling of the characters but I appreciate having some actual character to my games and not just a "personality" to comment on the plot as it happens around them.

Not at all, Ian Flynn helped write the script. The majority of side story cutscenes are just characters standing around and talking to each other, but even then it's a step up from how inconsistent things have been for the previous few titles in terms of how well they interact. The proper story cutscenes are even better. Hopefully he gets more sway over the actual story in the next game (which he merely helped with along with Kishimoto and another guy) and not just the script.

The Final Boss' bullet hell boss fight is only available in hard mode, yet it gives you extra lives the more times you fail it. Strange, isn't it?

Jokes aside, it does compensate for the fact the difficulty curve is a steep ramp up from the one or three hacking minigames in it. It's not terribly difficult, but it's a fair bit challenging for friends of mine who aren't used to that sort of gameplay and were thrown right into it.

The lack of any way to re-attempt boss fights other than starting a new save file sticks out like a sore thumb, considering they're meant to be the high points of the game.

Cut dialogue has been dug up from the gamefiles. (They're edited into the video, no way to trigger in-game).

Disappointing that they're left unused, especially the early-onset alzheimers dialogue. It would've given more weight to Sonic's cyberspace corruption, showing its impact on him. Sonic doesn't work too well as a silent protagonist, his silence in the Cyberspace stages is especially jarring given the late-game dialogue with Sage on how the layouts are familiar to him.

This is just classic Sonic Team at work, recording dialogue that helps with the game's tone or mood of a scene, put it in the game, only to just not implement it at the last minute.

I assume that his silence in the cyberspace levels is because they are ment to be replayed to finish all the missions (I know that it is piss eash to do so but it is still a kids game and I am sure they just assumed not every kid will be good at the game) and for the arcade mode.
I am sure they didnt make any dialogue trigger for them just so they qouldnt have to put more work than needed

According to some of the comments, these lines are actually in the game. However, it's idle dialogue so, you have to sit still to hear it.

Yuji Naka has reportedly been arrested as part of the Square Enix insider trading investigation

Former Sonic Team head and Sonic the Hedgehog programmer Yuji Naka has reportedly been arrested in relation to the ongoing Square Enix insider trading investigation.

Japanese news site FNN Prime Online reports that Naka is now the latest suspenct in a case regarding insider trading surrounding a new Dragon Quest game.

On Thursday two former Square Enix employees were arrested in Tokyo as part of a suspected insider trading scheme.

Taisuke Sazaki and Fumiaki Suzuki were arrested for acquiring stock in Japanese developer Aiming, shortly before it was announced that it was working on a new Dragon Quest game.

The two reportedly purchased around ¥47 million ($336,300) of stock in Aiming, just before it was publicly confirmed that it was developing mobile title Dragon Quest Tact.

Now, according to FNN, the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors’ Office’s Special Investigation Department has also arrested Naka for a similar potential infringement.

It’s alleged that before Dragon Quest Tact was announced, Naka – who was working on Balan Wonderworld for Square Enix at the time – purchased approximately 10,000 shares of Aiming stock for around ¥2.8 million ($20,000).

By purchasing the stock before the announcement, the belief is that all three suspects may have knowingly used insider information in order to later sell the stock again when its value increased.

Following the arrests of the original two suspects, Square Enix made a statement confirming that the pair were former employees and stating that it was working with authorities on the investigation.

“Today, some media outlets reported that the former employees of Square Enix were under investigation for suspected insider trading,” the statement reads.

“We have been fully cooperating with requests from the Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission. As the investigation by the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office is underway, we will continue to fully cooperate with the investigation.

“We deeply regret the great concern this has caused to all concerned. We have dealt with this incident strictly, including internal disciplinary actions taken against the suspected employees.”

Finished and platinumed Sonic Frontiers today(wanted to beat it before the new Pokémon) and I think this is definitely one of the better Sonic games in a long time. It had some issues, but I actually really want them to stick with this gameplay style and just improve upon it, because I think with a few tweaks it could be a great standards for Sonic games. Story was actually really good too, actually fleshing out and developed characters as well as introducing a really good one(seriously, Eggman becoming a dad is something weirdly interesting that I want more of.

Boss fights were a great spectacle, exploring the zones was fun, and just sprinting full tilt across the landscape was a lot of fun. There’s still a bit of jank there, of course, but I’d say it’s a really solid/good 7 or 8 out of 10 overall.

8/10 is me letting out my full Sonic fanboy, admittedly.
