Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

Most video games simply are unable to decently capture real life settings they're based on. The ones that manage to do so I just find fascinating.
Yakuza series (sadly I've never been to Japan but it feels like Sega has done a great job creating a pastiche/parody of Japanese city life)
The entire appeal of Shenmue is the excellent snapshot of small town Japan in 1986. The plot of the game doesn't matter, and it's a very cozy experience if you're not bothered by the Y2K visuals and hilarious voice acting. You can play with Japanese voices in the remaster.

Tbf in the Yes Man ending they basically say Vegas goes into anarchy and things are kinda worst off than if House or the NCR was in charge, even if you are in power. There's also the implications that Yes Man is going to kill your ass and take over himself. You can see a glimpse of this if you decide to blow up the securitron army, he's trying his best not to shit talk you or say anything explicitly bad, while you know he's screaming internally on the inside "You stupid fucking mailman nigger".
I pick the Yes Man ending just because I'm a lolbertarian and also it's really funny watching him throw the NCR guy off the side of the dam

Graphical quality needs to be "frozen" at current levels, I'm talking Nvidia 3090 with max settings, partly because of the increasing cost of power consumption and partly to have more attention paid to things besides Kewl Grafix.

We are about to reach the point that running your gaming rig will trip your circuit breaker. Enough already with the eternal "GPU arms race".

I was hoping you would keep posting the same thing so I could go for the entire sticker grand slam

Sorry for the browser spergout, i think that's the last of the dupes.

To continue where I left off:
  • Minecraft is badly overdue for new 64x64 graphics being default and having some kind of proper backstory or plot. It's spent more than long enough in "digital Duplo" status.

obsidian hasnt made a good game since new vegas
New Vegas wasn't a good game. It ran like complete fucking shit at launch and only became acceptable on PC after the fact due to fan fixes

That is the fact, now here is the opinion.

Obsidian absolutely, 100% deserved to not get that fucking bonus the fanboys won't get over. They were supposed to make a game, not some decent dialogue and plot.

Tbf they are working with Bethesda's shitty engine.

What's the excuse for KOTOR2, Alpha Protocol and Outer Worlds sucking ass, then?
In KOTOR2, LucasArts moved up the release date and Obsidian had to rush and cut shit to make it. Also like with NV it was based on an engine another company made that they had no experience with.

Ironically with Obsidian the more bugs the game has the better it is.
Does anyone give a shit about much more polished Obsidian games like Dungeon Siege 3 or Pillars of Eternity?

If you want to shit on an Obsidian game, you should shit on NWN2. That not only ran like ass, the campaign was also really boring and poorly written.

This trigger warning shit they have on Steam is gay as fuck and spoils the game. All you have to say is 'this game has copious amounts of violent and sexual material'. At least it lets me know what games to avoid since I know the devs are big enough faggots to think it needs this disclosed.

Game is Pentiment.

I enjoyed Fallout New Vegas when it was new, though I don’t think I’d like it nearly as much if it came out today. There was a long drought of good RPGs starting in the late 00s, especially Japanese ones, and what did we even have back in 2010? Final Fantasy 13, Hyperdimension Neptunia- hell, it seemed like half the JRPGs on the shelf was awful Idea Factory dreck where all the girls have dead eyes, and the target audience seems to be autists who couldn’t tell.

Speaking of which, there's something just so revolting about how dead-eyed those Idea Factory characters are. You'd see them all the time if you were a regular on the PS3 and Vita storefronts, and over time, I grew a weird sense of loathing when I'd see them. Especially this one:

That's a pedo game, so it's already one that should be chucked into the sun for its own merits, but even that dead look from the character in the foreground just puts me off in ways that feel very... uncanny valley. I don't know how better to explain it.

What RPGs on that level do we have now? A few interesting indies like Disco Elysium and that's about it.

There's nothing wrong with fast travel systems, at the very least for areas you've already been to in games. The idea that people are expected to sit around walking through empty space for hours is ridiculous for everyone who isn't a permaNEET.
Just warping is kinda silly though.

I miss traveling screens that made a whole mini-game out of "fast travel".
Especially Star Trail's one, which was really detailed. For example if a character had an axe equipped while moving through a deep forest you were likely to get attacked by ents, if you didn't have warm clothing when it's cold you often got sick, you had to regularly rest and could send out people to forage for food and herbs, etc..
