Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

Area Zero looks and sounds beautiful

but my god i can only imagine the slideshow it'd become on a regular switch, even here on emulator it's liable to dip occasionally.

alright, i'm 20 hours in. taking it very slow. ended up going violet for the future paradox pokemon, and because the look of miraidon grew on me. i bought it in person and the person at the register said that violet was beating out scarlet by a lot as far as interest

the technical issues are very present but not a huge deal for me. i dont get the headaches, and im not bothered by the bad textures at all. i do notice them, but it's whatever. the framerate problems are sometimes noticeable but ive never had anything drop to like, 1 frame per second like in some of the clips you see. i get used to them. i have never been bothered by pop-in, people go bananas over that when they see it and i think it can be done tastefully. i dont think it's done well here but it doesnt take me away from the things i want to do

things do lower their animation rate when they're far away, which looks ridiculous. they should have handled that more elegantly, but it really only bothers me around cities, and im having fun roaming around the map. the fps and ugliness of the game also comes out in the cities. that part is rough. the game has the most trouble when it's cutting from shot to shot and things have to reload, which happens a lot during cutscenes, which i dont care about much anyway

the thing that kills me the most as far as technical problems is going through the box/pokedex. even going from box 1 to box 2 and back to box 1, it unloads and reloads every. single. sprite. and, slowly. it's hell. the only crash i have had in 20 hours was from doing this

i like the terastal mechanic. it's innocuous but adds an interesting layer to things. it switches things up when you find a roaming terastallized pokemon and you don't know what type it's going to be, so you fight it blind. i like that. the raid battles, you know in advance, those are more standard.

i like the auto heal button. i like that instead of going through your TMs and seeing which pokemon can learn it, you can look at one pokemon and it shows you all the TMs it can learn. i like the "let's go" mechanic that speeds up battling, it's fun and satisfying and even acts as its own little minigame (your pokemon may or may not be able to efficiently fight in this mode, so you have to strategize a little bit). i like the open-worldness of it. there are some areas that you aren't supposed to be able to get to, but i'm able to cheese over ravines and up mountains through hundreds of hours of practice in bethesda games. and that makes the game very nonlinear (a good thing).

as far as the pokemon designs, i intentionally didn't spoil them for myself so im enjoying seeing them as i go. not that i like them all (many are ridiculous, some i think are neat) but it's fun seeing them and going "oh what the fuck"

for people on the fence or maybe excited for getting it later, i think if you have a ton of games to play, it will be jarring for you to go from one good-looking game to a terrible looking one that exhibits bad decision making, even if unique and fun. if this is up your alley in particular, then it's a new pokemon game that takes a few steps forward and a few steps back and you'll probably enjoy it for that reason

After making giga chad the pokemon, they had no way to make a better starter.

I was always hoping for Swampert to have Huge Power as its hidden ability. It seemed to make sense given how the Pokedex always talks about Swampert's strength (or swimming speed).

Anyways, I was hoping to buy the game right now, but I keep hearing about the performance issues and screenshots of the shitty graphics, so I don't know. I skipped out on SH/SW but was interested in Gen 9's potential.

From the bitching here, the bitching on Twitter, and the bitching I've seen from livestreams, save your money and buy the game in a couple of months when things might be fixed.

It amazes how after all this time and with as much money as they make, Game Freak still can't hire competent developers.

So who did everyone pick as their starter in S/V? The only correct answer is Fuecoco btw.
I'm going to wait till late December/early January to get a copy of Scarlet, but I'm going with Sprigatito. I kinda feel like a hypocrite for doing so, since Ghost type is my favorite typing, but at the end of the day I'm a cat person, so I'm going with Sprig. That said Skeledirge's design is growing on me, so who knows, between now and then I might change my mind.

FUCK YEAH Swampert is the best of the starter evos!

I weep for kids starting with this as their first generation. Who needs a badass war vet, a cute tomboy, or a fucking NINJA for Gym Leaders when you've got this vile blob of diversity instead. Just let this shit die already.
Good god you need to calm down, specific pokemon have had regional variants for a few installments now

I'm getting FOMO but I think I'm going to wait for DLC and see what it addresses. I don't care for a lot of the new mons, a lot of my favorites are dexited, I really would miss choosing clothes, on top of the bugs and graphical issues. I'm sure I'd have fun in spite of its flaws but I have a pretty small entertainment budget, and $60+ is a lot for something I would constantly be thinking "I wish they'd done..." while playing. Following the leaks and watching people stream has been fun though. I'm happy Oricorio is finally available again, I want to have one if/when I get the game.

Watching streams is making me hate how often Nemona pops up to patronize you. I hope there's eventually a "I know what a Pokemon game is, I don't need an hour long tutorial" option.

My switch is only a year old, and I only have some minor pop in and lag issues.

Also from what I can tell most of the Issues seem to come from a memory leak, so if you actually fully shut the game down when you're not playing it, it seems to be a lot more stable than if you keep it running in the background.

It's almost impressive how you take the idea of 'pokemon future vs pokemon past' and manage to fuck up almost every design of these hypothetically cool pokemon variants.

A bunch of good ideas fucking squandered.
Speak for yourself. I love every single one of them. Granted all of the future ones being robots is a tired concept.

After the Finn-style sandwich-eating became widely spread, many people wished that Pokémon go back to sprites.
I concluded that would require a full-on demake.

Apparently, I was no the only one. Redbregade05 is making one:

I then thought about doing demakes of the other 3D games, but some already had the same idea.
Someone already converted th entire Sword & Shield games, including DLC places, to a playable 2D ROM: https://whackahack.com/juegos/pokemon-espada-y-escudo-gba/
Someon else is converting X and Y: https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonROMhacks/comments/ynxqq5/pokémon_xy_gba_demake_new_screenshots_06th/

I guess that leaves Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon to me... if I ever get around to that.

I'm about halfway through and I haven't had any wild shit happen. The memory leak is annoying and wild mons will spawn inside walls sometimes but I haven't seen any T-posing or had my mons clip through the floor in battle. Haven't had any crashes either. Not to say they don't happen to other people though.
I had one crash last night but maybe that's because I spent almost the entire day playing. It was one of those rare Saturdays where I had nothing else going on and was able to have the entire day to myself

So who did everyone pick as their starter in S/V? The only correct answer is Fuecoco btw.
fuecoco every single fucking time, all day, every day. i originally wanted weedcat, but tbh the final evolution is disappointing and its hidden ability, protean, has been nerfed HARD. not that starters can get their hidden abilities, but whatever. and the water starter becomes a literal whatthefuck. the kinda shitty thing with fuecoco's typing is that, if you played legend of arceus, the hisuian variant of typhlosion is also fire/ghost, so the typing is repetitive, but sometimes shit be that way.

my fuecoco is a girl. very kawaii.

i'm still at the beginning of the game, putzing around. seeing if i can find a shiny early-game while grinding some levels. i don't have any permanent party pokemon atm except fuecoco. usually i can kinda plan out what party i want, but i'm pretty uninspired rn tbh.

Did you close and restart the game to reset the memory leak at all? I've been doing that every few hours, may have something to do with it.
