When you make the death penalty legal, you are assuming the government is going to have the same standards for what kind of circumstances justify using it that you do. No society other than a modern-day first world society would have let Brooks draw breath for that long. Life in prison is way more based than the dealth penalty. Once the death penalty has been carried out, that's it. They don't exist anymore and can't suffer for the damage they've caused. Kept alive -- either in PC where he'll be driven insane by the isolation or in genpop where he'll have to worry about getting raped or beaten every second of every day for being a pedo and a child killer (and if he survives that, he'll be thrown into an extended PC stay were he'll be driven insane; wash, rinse, repeat) -- and combined with the restitution order and prison work paying a few cents an hour into a commissary account subject to the restitution order meaning he won't ever be able to afford so much as a packet of ramen noodles without having to suck dick or give up his asshole for it and will have to eat the genpop slop or PC nutriloaf, etc. etc. is a way better punishment specifically because it's crueler and more painful.

Our reptile brains may tell us that death is the "harsher" and thus more fitting punishment, but it's really not. Once he's humanely euthanized, his punishment ends and thus his suffering ends while his victims still suffer.
