Hes a Gamergate supporter but thats not too huge of a draw for me. Besides he does God's work.

What are the qualifications of the other people on the panel?

I assumed that was a troll account that was really good at drawing Wu style
Fuck, I was wrong. That was a troll account. Still really accurate.
Wu: "Look at me! I'm a gaymer guurrrrrrrl! Look at how nerdy I am!"
If life is an RPG, then Wu's still at level 1.

The time John spent writing that book could have been used to RELEASE REVOLUTION 60 PC.
Also, way to erase real other women, John. Either way, it'll still sell SHIT.

Did we ever get any of Frank's writing up anywhere? I'd be mildly interested in seeing what he writes...
There's a sample of his Analog story here:

In brief: some incredibly cliched Australians discover that the local ant population is being controlled by some sort of malign intelligence.
"Crikey! This is worse than dropbears, mate! I hope this doesn't keep me from putting some shrimp on the barbie!"

Right here are some reader reviews of that issue.

Frank's story is singled out for criticism by every reviewer who critiqued the entire issue. Readers take him to task for everything from basically ripping off H.G. Wells' Empire of the Ants to providing a story that is scientifically inaccurate to failing to serve up a satisfying ending.

A few of the comments on Frank's masterpiece:

This would be great in an EC horror comic book. In Analog, it's ludicrous.

What starts out as an interesting story about ant behavior and pheromones and insect control at the end degenerates into a Gaia New Age mystic pile of crap.

It started out like a horror movie with unstoppable ants, and had a weird ending.

Most of the stories were fairly decent this issue - with notable exception so bad it lowered the rating for this issue: Frank Wu's novelette, "Season of the Ants in the Timeless Land". Maybe if this tale had been published in an early issue of "Astounding Stories" or in a current issue of "The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction" it might have been received better. But in today's "Analog"? A publication noted for leaning towards hard science tales? The ending to Wu's "Season of the Ants" is so ... bizarre, the novelette might as well have been an EC's "Weird Science" comic book title.

From another source:

Unfortunately, the story is riddled with editorializing, info dumps, POV shifts, etc. The characters are never very important to the story, and toward the end it's nothing but pages of pure narration. The final result -- that the alien was from the moon -- is really hard to believe knowing what we know about the moon.

It doesn't sound like Frank is on the road to becoming the next Asimov.

But according to Flynt/Wu, he deserves a Hugo for a story that doesn't have a single positive review. Probably because he's not white and likes to have sex with trannies.

EtA:

The fact that Frank wrote a novelette based on this thin story line indicates that he probably intended to game the system from the get-go. He won't face much competition in the novelette category, and Flynt/Wu's army of SJWs might well be large enough to carry the day. This seems to be how John and Frank roll when it comes to undeserved accolades.

Not hard to infer. Let me elaborate.

Sorry I should've been clearer. So in 2008 Frank declined a Hugo nomination, then in 2009 he accepted and won his fourth, and did the "please vote for other people" speech. I'm not seeing this being linked to losing influence in the sci-fi community and having to back off though, his tantrum against McBain didn't come until 5 years after this. If anything I'd say he either did genuinely want other people to win, because he does seem to enjoy art just for art's sake, or he was already planning a move into a big boy category and was trying to lose the 'fan artist' image.

Right here are some reader reviews of that issue.

He's been working on that story for 10 years apparently. Those reviews have got to sting.

Edit: If anyone's curious

Frank Wu: I had the most awesome thing happen last night at 1:30 in the morning when I got an email from Analog magazine accepting my first story in a pro, real magazine.
...
Frank Wu: Yeah. I just found out last night. It’s this story that I’ve been working on for literally 10 years. It’s all about ants building a space elevator. And yeah, I wrote it and rewrote it and had all these people read it. And because it’s about ants… I love ants and invertebrates and stuff, so I read six or seven books all about ants. I could tell you a lot of stories about ants, but…

Damn. Ten years and that's the result. Maybe a week's worth of an research and a basic understanding of Australian culture and lingo took Frankie boy ten years? Maybe he was working his ass off to fund Brianna's playtime but really that's some serious procrastination.
I wonder if there'll be a Brianna meltdown where she accuses all the reviewers of being 'gaters unfairly attacking Frank because he's married to her.
