I think the airline should have taken the L since she already booked the ticket. They should have at least compensated the fat woman with a hotel stay for being denied her flight. If I am reading this right, she had already paid for the ticket so she was a customer, settled and done. I can understand the airline charging her for the mother. Rejecting the flight to be with the daughter because the mother willingly chose to stay behind is not the airline's fault.

Airlines should make sure people are skinny enough for a single ticket's single seat before denying flights. A signed contract for customers to guarantee they are skinny enough for a single seat, otherwise an additional fee will be charged (extra seats). Unless i'm missing something and the airline does have that, in which case fuck this fat bitch.

Seems like she booked a seat in economy knowing it was 17/18" seat width. Their offer was to get refund or pay for an additional seat for her girth. Or pay for 1 first class. She refused.

Also seems you don't pay for your seat you pay for a spot to sit on the plane like southwest.

I don't believe that story about the denied flight unless it hits mainstream media, and even then I'd be suspicious. Still, if it is true the airline is covered. (Here's an example of their "Conditions of Carriage" document in English.)

The relevant bits are:

ARTICLE 6 - RESERVATIONS

4. Seating We will endeavor to honor advance seating requests. However, we do not guarantee to provide any particular seat in the aircraft. We reserve the right to assign or reassign seats at any time even after boarding of the aircraft for operational, safety or security reasons [Bolding mine] and you agree to accept any seat that may be allotted on the flight in the class of service for which the Ticket has been issued.

ARTICLE 8 - REFUSAL OF AND LIMITATION ON CARRIAGE

3. Refusal to Carry or Removal of Passenger We may, in our reasonable discretion, refuse to carry you, or remove you en route, due to your conduct, behaviour, physical or mental condition. In such a case, we may cancel the remaining unused portion of the Ticket, and you will not be entitled to further carriage or to a refund, either in respect of the sector, which was the subject of refusal of carriage or removal, or in respect of any subsequent sectors covered by the Ticket. Given this woman's size and how full the flight was (I suspect very full) she may well have presented an aviation hazard in the general section. I.e. they couldn't reasonably fit her anywhere where she wouldn't affect potential safe egress for other passengers in the event of an emergency. Also depending on how long that hotel stay is -- and the cost of her mother's ticket as well as hers, they may have been far better off financially just to take the airline's advice and pay for business class.

Also Quatar Air is very slick and professional, so I'm sure that if this actually happened there was solid, defensible grounds for their refusal, and I'm sure they're legally covered. A bit of negative press won't phase them, I don't think.

Going all the way to Lebanon just to take some staged pictures at a historical site, and then presumably waddling to the hotel/restaurant to sit out your time there because you are so fat you can't even walk a small distance. I hope Qatar airlines taught her to just stay home next time. I'm not a woo woo environmental activist who wants to cancel all non-necessary flights, but I do think it's kinda gross that she flew across the world to essentially do nothing meaningful at all.

If anyone is a WATP listener they reviewed her now defunct podcast. Pretty funny she got denied seats since her podcast was listing off all the ways fat people get “mistreated” because Society hasn’t yet fabricated an alloy strong enough to support them. The podcast was called “Fat Lip” I recommend finding the WATP episode of it if you want to laugh.
Just some things I remember about ash;

• Ash is “infinifat”, it’s a term she coined to describe people who are fatter than obese.
• After podcasting she now has a mail order clothes service which basically sows two XXXXL moo moos together to sell to other hamplanets.

"Qatar Airways treats all passengers with respect and dignity and in line with industry practices and similar to most airlines, anyone who impedes upon the space of a fellow traveller and cannot secure their seatbelt or lower their armrests may be required to purchase an additional seat both as a safety precaution and for the comfort and safety of all passengers.

The passenger in question at Beirut Airport was initially extremely rude and aggressive to check-in staff when one of her travelling party did not produce a required PCR documentation for entry to Brazil. As a result, airport security was requested to intervene as staff and passengers were extremely concerned with her behaviour.

We can confirm that the passenger was rebooked on a flight on Thursday evening from Lebanon."

Seems fair enough to me. She didn't have issues with Air France because they either gave her a free extra seat or they allowed her to sit next to her nephew and take up most of his seat.
Air France also doesn't allow passengers with a waist larger than 135 cm to seat in emergency exits seats because they are "likely to restrict access to an emergency exit"
Airlines have always been aware that deathfats are a danger to the safety of everyone on board and they are not afraid to state it anymore.

Bullshit. You were refused boarding because you only bought one ticket, couldn't fit in the seat, acted like a cunt at the first hint of trouble and refused to entertain any kind of compromise they offered to keep everybody happy. I guarantee they tried to find a way to make it work and didn't just say "lol fatty get off."

It's standard practice industry-wide to require "passengers of size" to purchase two tickets so the crew knows to reserve the extra physical space for the passenger to safely fit in a seat (with a seatbelt extender if necessary). They also need to know how to balance passenger weight evenly throughout the aircraft to make sure the damned thing doesn't crash during take off because of a lopsided load.

They don't care about you being fat and usually they don't even want "extra" revenue because of it. They care about not crushing other passengers or crashing the plane.

Fun fact: many airlines will actually refund the second ticket (taxes and fees included) assuming 1) you actually take the flight, 2) you book in advance and according to the airline's guidelines (about stuff like how to name the "ghost" passenger, etc.) and 3) you aren't a complete and utter fucking cunt to the staff when you arrive at the airport and board the aircraft.

Every airline on this planet has "passengers of size" policies and procedures set up specifically to avoid this stupid shit. It's always posted on their websites and they'll happily discuss them with you if you're booking with a human being. If you're not a dick (a tall order for some, I know), they're usually super nice about it.

Nah. "Flying while fat" is not a new thing. It's on the passenger to make sure they're in compliance with the airline's policies concerning overweight passengers. They're not hard to find. It's pretty rare to find ground staff or flight crews who are genuinely rude or nasty to a well-behaved fatty and won't do their best to accommodate them.

They gave her a refund for the ticket despite it really being her fault she couldn't board (and undoubtedly despite her being an insufferable bitch after hearing the Karen Kryptonite word: "no"). They don't owe her anything else.

Though there's no "signed contract" -- buying the ticket and entering an airport with intent to use it is sufficient evidence of acceptance and agreement -- but they do have that. Check out a domestic (US) Contract of Carriage to see the specifics, but they clearly spell out what their obligations are (get you safely to your destination, refund your ticket if they can't, make reasonable effort to get your luggage there too (ideally at the same time), and offer some minimum level of temporary accommodation if you are delayed by a flight delay or cancellation that's their fault) and what your obligations are as a passenger.

Among those obligations are "pay for your ticket somehow, show up on time, follow airport rules and procedures and comply with safety regulations and flight crew instructions." That last one includes "fit in the seat so your seatbelt will fasten properly and you're not crowding/crushing other passengers."

Besides, how would an airline make sure you're skinny enough to fit in a single seat before you buy the ticket if you're using their website to book the flight?

Eat less, pay less. Not that hard, fatty.
