Rapp was almost certainly employed in an at-will state, which means they could fire her for no reason at all.
There are a small number of things they can't fire her for, but they can fire for no reason.
Was she holding other employment, an actual job, or was legalizing loli just a hobby?
Apparently Nintendo had issues with her from the beginning in regards to her using her platform as PR to talk about rape culture on twitter. It seems like Nintendo didn't pay too much attention to her beyond that but was aware she had certain stances that should have remained entirely separate from her job. She got a second job but won't say what it is because she said it wouldn't look good for her or Nintendo. The assumption is it was more than modeling since she freely shared professionally shot photos of herself posing in underwear (possibly linked to her second job). So people are assuming camgirl or escort. Nintendo didn't comb through her twitter feed until people brought up her thesis and eventually an anon made them aware of her second job.
None of this was known until hours after people like Wu jumped at the chance to condemn Nintendo and Jamie Walton. Many of them are eating crow because of it or are doubling down.
