Apparently, it is insanely traumatic and career-ending.. Sperg incoming...
As a kid (at an educational event), I met a female former engineer (8 years at this point) who had been driving a commuter train when someone lazily offed themselves with her train. We young wannabe edgelords regretted asking for details as she gave a very detailed account and explained how the trajectory of the body hitting above the wheels of the train lands it directly splat on the windshield in front of the driver before hitting the ground/making another impact with the train/ being pulled under it, depending on the AOA as it were. She had to leave that job due to panic attacks and PTSD related to this event and was highly medicated still, a few years later. There were enough engineers in this metro area that had experienced this that they had an ongoing support group. A relative of mine who worked in transportation later confirmed how frequently this happens, often barely making the news, and that the body often does splat as she had described. Right in the face of the engineer.

This engineer ended her tale with telling us to please be more creative if we plan to unalive ourselves. Preferably in a way that won't mentally fuck someone just earning a living. She enjoyed seeing my badass pals and I realizing we weren't shit. This clearly stuck with me.

In the United States (and I presume most other civilized nations), a train hitting someone on the tracks is a traumatic and potentially career-ending event for the train driver. Even seasoned engineers with decades of experience often legitimately need therapy and most wind up with PTSD over it. Imagine being the operator of a massive machine that can sometimes take literal miles of travel to bring to a stop and watching helplessly as a human being disappears underneath it either by accident or intentionally. Your rational mind knows you couldn't possibly have stopped the train in time, but the rest of it says "hey, you were at the controls, so you are responsible." It's such a traumatic experience for a train driver that it's standard practice to provide paid administrative leave and cover the cost of therapy when it happens.

I wonder if it's the same way in India, or if it's something that happens so often that train drivers there just shrug it off and mumble "fucking idiot" whenever it happens.
Please excuse my formatting. Mobilefag, but trying to not shit this up.

My family works on the railroad, not engineers, thank fuck. But I heard enough to feel that people who do that are stupid fucking retards who are selfish as hell.
