I print checks all the time that don't have the address on the check and I also run checks we receive all the time through the scanner and none of them have our address on the check. She needs to go to a branch of the issuing bank to cash it if she doesn't want to deposit it.

ETA - definitely neither Porky or Joh have a bank account, or if they do, it's negative. Even shitty local banks have apps to deposit checks, or you can go to an ATM.

If she weren't a lazy whiner, she could make some cute decorations to spruce up her house. There's a ton of stuff you can make with just paper and glue, and we know she has other craft supplies around.

I don't understand why she even went out on Black Friday. People who actually have no money understand that going out on the biggest shopping day of the year just makes you feel bad, because you either see all the shit you can't buy or you spend money you know you shouldn't. Stay home, put on a Christmas movie, decorate with what you have.

rent-to-own, as the term implies, is a leasing arrangement like any other, the difference being that the terms of the lease agreement have a clause that outlines how the tenant can come to own the property which significantly varies throughout areas and rental agencies. the typical predatory arrangement i've seen is either having terms for the deed be very difficult to fulfill by some people (tenant pays for maintenance, assumes liability for damages, paying tax and insurance on the property, a long history of on-time payments, et c) and if the terms are violated, the escalation for repossession is swift and often litigious with arrests and threats of legal action that are very expensive to fight. often the actual owners will repossess a home that has significantly more value in it than when rented and will have incurred very little cost of maintaining it. there are other arrangements as well like loans in bad faith regardless of credit rating to justify ridiculous interest rates since sometimes rent-to-own isn't governed by the same laws as other lease agreements regarding terms and conditions.

Originally she said it was being given to her for free, as long as she made it livable. No mention of loan payments. She dropped in the loan payments later. Either she originally just expected to be handed the trailer and selectively misheard the part about paying the loan or she added that in to open the door to more grift bucks down the line.

Aunt was probably dirt poor too, and possibly just as bad with money as Polissa. That being the case, she probably did buy it after prices soared. That or @Soup Sammiches point about rent to own.

I've been thinking for a while that Polissa's narc selective hearing probably has a lot to do with the current state of the trailer. The loan payment and the part about unspecified male relatives doing all the work on it for free. When the aunt offered her the trailer she probably made an offhand comment about them lending a helping hand, with no actual promises, and Pissa just took that as they'd definitely do absolutely everything and she hasn't bothered to confirm it with them or ask. From her perspective, she just needs to buy a few odds and ends to patch holes and make it look nice. Meanwhile if I had offered to help a family member with home renovations and the place looked like the trailer does, unless it was a 90 year old infirm grandparent I'd be dragging their ass to the site on the weekends to at least clear out the garbage, as I'm sure most people would.
