I think that's the key takeaway here with Facebook taking shots at Apple. They're hard up on monetary value and are arguably less powerful of a propaganda tool by governments as Twitter previously was. Zucc wants his cut, but he seems to be in a really impotent position.
For Meta, this is absolutely about revenge. Apple changed their privacy policy to require users to opt in manually to sharing their data with facebook. This has tanked their ad business and Zuckerberg will never forgive Apple for it.
Atop that financial loss and loss of propaganda influence, all these tech companies, twitter and facebook included, are looking at a rapid and unscheduled disassembly of their advertising revenue. Facebooks single biggest money maker is ads. Apple makes a pretty penny off their ad service for app store apps, and also recently made a move to start cutting into 3rd party social media advertising with their rules which has facebook in particular livid, but would affect twitter too. This is all atop the ad market collapsing as consumers are fiscally exhausted, manufacturers are unable to justify higher ad spends due to lowering profits or lowing ad returns, and the economy in general grinds its gears into the next recession/depression.
