I don’t think she understands the resolve by caretakers to resist the urge to place a blanket or towel over her face then make a seal over her nose and mouth and problem solved. I imagine it’s a daily, sometimes minute by minute battle not to act upon that urge. It’s the only thing I can think of when I see her fat face on my phone.
I bet the only reason it doesn’t happen is that grody hippo would spring right up out of that bed and beat mama to a pulp if she tried anything. I’m starting to wonder if there’s some elder abuse going on in that house.

I'll bet that's not a doctor but a recruiter for the hospice, as detailed in the most interesting article linked by A Tree a couple of posts back. Recruiters would have agreed with anything she said to meet their quota. They even dressed up in scrubs to give themselves an air of medical legitimacy.

Also, you'd think the whole purpose of a neck brace is to immobilise the neck. No, not for our Chelsea. She has to be able to shake her head to express that she is BIG MAD YOU GUISE. Go on, squeeze out a tear, you can do it!

Maybe it turns into self harm? I feel like the ones who munch as hard as Kelly must be trying to exorcise something.

But I feel like there’s a long spectrum you can progress, from tik tok fakers to illness “influencers” to Disney dog munchies to spine butchees to voluntarily starving yourself to death for a little to permanent sepsis to infecting your own legs off. At some point does it progress from getting attention for being fragile babies to getting attention for being shocking? The same way it can with anorexia?

Edit: I guess the terminus is surgeries until you are attached to so many opiates so you don’t realize your unnecessary intestine access hole has badly fucked your guts until it’s too late.

I'm overjoyed that this bitch finally got her own thread.

Because I'm feeling catty, I'll say that to me, it seems like when she became an adult, she discovered that she's only average looking, which destroyed her dream of becoming a True and Honest fashion model. I always find it amusing when people manage to make it to adulthood thinking they're going to be a model but simply haven't been discovered yet.

Since she's not that intelligent and a raging cluster B trainwreck, she's just not that good at faking illness, which is why absolutely every physician she's ever seen has requested she see psych before they'll take her seriously.

I do think the family dynamic is really fucking strange. I'd love to know more about her mother.

Also, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that non-epileptic seizures are not necessarily something that the patient is doing consciously or intentionally. The patient can't control them, and they can be extremely debilitating. The only treatment is to address the underlying psychiatric condition. Somatic symptoms are manifestations of illness just like any other, and these patients deserve compassion, not derision. Mental illness sucks ass, and it's especially cruel to think about being so psychologically unwell that your body begins to betray you.

Factitious seizures, however, are completely voluntary. These patients are fully aware of what they're doing and could stop if they so desired, but they don't because they enjoy the attention.

Both groups of patients are mentally ill, and it probably seems like an academic distinction at best to some people, but I think it's important to note that even when a "seizure" isn't a seizure, it doesn't necessarily mean that the patient is faking.

In Chelsea's case, though? She's consciously faking and deserves our contempt.

Oh man, the guffaw I let out upon reading that Mayo caught on to her shenanigans and slapped her with a FND diagnosis. Being seen at THE Mayo Clinic is something many munchies aspire to but maybe they should be grateful they didn’t get their heart’s desire. And then she has the nerve to act like Mayo, one of the top hospital in the world especially when it comes to groundbreaking research, isn’t good enough for her. The hospital that required an international airport be put in little Rochester, MN because Saudi royalty need to be able to fly their personal jets directly there for medical care - it just isn’t skilled enough to handle our poor one in a million zebra Chelsea!

I’m curious what Twin Cities hospitals she frequents. She mentioned a few times about transferring to ‘the other campus’ which leads me to believe she mainly munches her hospital stays at the University of Minnesota, as they have both a West and East Bank campus. There’s also the pic from the back of the ambulance/medical transport that clearly said U of M on the back windows, though with so many medical facilities and hospitals in the Twin Cities, you can find ambulances and transports from every system at all the hospitals. Her precious Dr Byrd is a U of M Fairview hospitalist as well.

In general she comes across as incredibly self absorbed when she talks about how she can’t get the care she needs in her area. The Twin Cities has a large number of well regarded hospitals that cover basically every specialty that you can think of. Mayo of course, Abbott for heart and neurology, U of M for research, Regions for burn and stroke, Gillette and Childrens for pediatrics, both HCMC and Regions are level 1 trauma hospitals that receive trauma patients from all over the Midwest. And that’s just off the top of my head - I know there’s a lot more that I just don’t interact with. There’s the Fairview, Healthpartners/Park Nicollet, and Allina care systems that have hundreds (if not thousand) of specialty clinics in Minnesota. It’s not fancy in the Midwest but they do have excellent medical resources without having to go to the coasts for specialty things.

Chelsea, the reason you can’t find the care you want even among so many top notch options is because you just want doctors to shower you in benzos, opioids, and that sweet sweet attention without questioning anything you tell them because there’s not actually anything physically wrong with you!

And MN even has Hazelden to kick the addiction!

A hardcore munchie would inject (sometimes literal) shit into themselves to try to actually mimic symptoms. Wallowing in your own shit until mommy cleans it seems fairly tame by comparison.

Probably beating a dead horse on this but the c-collar amuses me. It's such an obvious prop from the get-go, and even moreso when you notice how much (and how painlessly) she moves her head and neck around inside it.

As offensive as ALL the shit she gets up to is... I think that cheezy saccharin sweet twinkling music is the WORST. She thinks it helps generate sympathy by lending a dramatic tragic tone but it simply enrages me. It's the laugh track of munch vids and makes me want to... EXPLODE! Blahhhh...!

So ferritin is an acute phase reactant which means it goes up in states of inflammation. This means that you shouldn't check someone's ferritin when they're ill with something inflammatory/infective as it can give a falsely reassuring number (eg. you check it when they have pneumonia and it's in the normal range, but in reality it's temporarily elevated and actually low).

However, if you happen to check a ferritin level during a period of inflammation and it isn't high, you can assume the person is chronically low as they don't even have enough to push it up.

So, Chelsea having a ferritin that is dropping is likely just returning to normal from some other inflammatory issue and the fact that it was up is proof she's not that catastrophically low. Also she's likely not even anaemic as she's never mentioned her haemoglobin (because it's probably completely normal).

Chelsea go eat a steak and find a therapist.
