How come cannabis abuse is more tolerated in the west than anabolic steroids abuse?

This isn't about the debate wether drugs should be legal or illegal. Personally I think all drugs should be illegal without a prescription. But I'm curious as to how people justify arguing for decriminalisation of cannabis, but not anabolic steroids.

From what I've read most western nations have stricter laws regarding posession of steroids than cannabis. Which is the opposite to the situation in eastern europe or east asia. In Canada weed is legal and steroids is illegal to import or use without prescription with a maximum penalty of 3 years in prison. In Japan steroids are legal to import and use, but weed use or import risks 5 years in jail.

Is it rational to view one as more harmful than the other? Are performance enhancing drugs worse than purely recreational ones? How did we end up in the present circumstance?

Is alcohol a drug? Why is it allowed just because it comes in beverage form?
Is it rational to view one as more harmful than the other?
Yes, because one drug can be very different from another and should be treated on what they do and what they are.
Are performance enhancing drugs worse than purely recreational ones?
I personally don't think so. Being an athlete is pretty much a genetic lottery, drugs shake that shit up.
How did we end up in the present circumstance?
Mass production and demand.

I think drugs should be restricted heavily in most cases. Liberal attitude to drugs leads to liberal use of drugs that leads to San Francisco. Alcohol and cannabis are probably something that can never be regulated because of the ease of amatuer production.

There are obvious rational answers to your question, but instead I'll give you my schizo bro theory:

Because you won't have any pushback on something that makes you weak, compliant, and a consoomer.
But everyone (individuals that compares themselves to you and the state) will not like seeing you becoming and looking stronger.

Cannabis doesn't confer any physical benefits aside from pain relief or anxiety relief in SOME individuals and doesn't have the same side effects that steroids do. Avoiding cannabis won't stop you from being stronger or smarter in anyway whereas you will always have more muscle mass and strength if you are taking steroids. If steroids were legal literally every athlete, body builder and scrawny gym noob who wants to bulk up quickly would be taking it and roid raging out. People will do anything to win or gain power no matter the cost, even if it means pretending your a woman.

But did everyone turn into raging roidheads in nations that have fully legalised anabolic steroids?
Personally I would think the side effects would be the more rational standpoint. Cannabis abusers get retarded, but won't have the same organ failure rate as roiders. ButI do believe western society has spent the last few decades downplaying the adverse effects of weed abuse. For example claiming it's better than cigarettes while inhaling smoke from a joint that is 50% tobacco

The government doesn't have your best interests in mind, and that's not just western government either. In the OP, you compared the laws to Japan's, which are extreme on the opposite end.

Unlike everyone else in this thread thus far, I am not opposed to marijuana. Along with the pain and anxiety relief effects mentioned in prior posts, it also has strong practice for seizure relief and nausea relief. It's like nobody remembers how opposed (((they))) were to cannabis even 15 years ago before the fight ramped up recently, but I digress.

Steroids can be "abused", but the results of misusing steroids usually hurt the person taking them. "Roid rage" isn't as common as the media likes to say, and we all know the "hurrdurr tiny dick" thing is subversive and complete bullshit. Steroid use for non-bodybuilders has become more and more available through the Internet, legal or not. It'll have it's day just like MMJ did, it'll probably be called something like "Anabolic Therapy ".

The war on drugs is a colossal waste of money and everyone with common sense knows it. The kikes lost against alcohol, they lost against marijuana, they FUCKED UP prescribing and then banning opiates to the point where chronic pain patients can't get medicine, so IMO it's just a matter of time before the walls come crumbling down with steroids. It's currently ketamine and psychedelics' turn to by taken back into the hands of the people, but yes, steroids will come too.

I'm curious, are there any TRT activist causes you can involve yourself in if you feel strongly about this?

ALl the lies make it difficult for any consensus to be made. Smoking pure weed vs tobacco is better for you, but its a relative term. Burning any plant material and inhaling it can increase your chances of various cancers, no matter what plant it is. Not smoking anything is always safer, even if you vape weed correctly, you remove the cancer shit, but then weed can cause mental issues.

As for roids, its simple. Sports teams need to keep it out, because otherwise it becomes mandatory for all if they want to compete. Someone said above that it would open the playing field for more than the genetically lucky sportsmen, but they would use it as well, so the dynamic wouldnt change at all. Just now everyone needs to take it to even try to compete.

And this is the one that so many roidy boys fail to fucking understand. Pumping your body full of fucking hormones is a really fucking dumb thing to do, its going to cause many issues. "but your body already has test in it faggot!" your body has blood in it, just inject 4 gallons of blood into your body, see how that works out for you. Let me inflate your lungs with my cars tyre pump, more air must be good. Christ, I want to defend roid fags because at its core, I think people should have a right to decide what they put in their own bodies, but they are really fucking retarded.

(DUDEWEED cunts are also annoying, but thats a given at this point)

The main issue is that cycling is a lot more complicated than hitting the bong. Besides all the risks of the steroids themselves, you have to monitor your blood levels and potentially need to take e-blockers as you finish a cycle to deal with estrogen overproduction. There's no way any western society is going to allow people to self-manage this class of drugs without medical oversight, and very very few doctors are going to sign off on prescribing patients something with as many dangerous side effects as anabolic steroids for what is essentially a cosmetic benefit, and the kind of doctors who will are the reason there's an opiod addiction crisis.

I'm in a country where weed is illegal, in East Europe, and it's quite annoying, the last time I smoked was a decade+ ago when I was still connected to university/high school friends, I don't like alcohol at all, makes one stupid, but I was fine with weed, it made me creative and resulted in lots of spergy fun with friends while we were essentially milking the lolcows in real life, i.e. the people that were having paranoid seizures from weed and wanted to call the ER and the cops because they thought they had heart attacks and were being poisoned, which you can imagine was a LOT of amazing fun to mock and laugh at.
Worst side effects from weed seem to be from long term use and are never on par with those from alcohol, like organ failure. I've heard weed in the West has been slowly modified to become stronger and stronger, but I never had the opportunity to see for myself what that means.
Now for steroids, one, they can ruin your body quite fast and kill you, and second they are used for doping so it's that aspect too. Nobody at some running event wants to compete against people that are pumped full of drugs, because it creates pressure to do the same to keep up etc.
If you engage in sports regularly and eat/sleep healthily, your testosterone will rise by itself, especially if you lose fat tissue. I prefer it that way.
And fucking make weed legal already, it's stupid you can buy vodka and literally drink yourself in a coma, while you go to jail for smoking something and having a laugh.

I think a huge factor in both this attitude and the legality is the amount of people who want to use said drug.

It’s easier to criminalize anabolic steroids because the effects are both more visually obvious, and the user base for them is more niche. Would more people use them if they were legal and easily available? Sure, but they also aren’t particularly desired by people who aren’t competitive athletes, gym bros, or wannabe gym bros. And if you’re not in that group, it’s easy to shake your finger at them.

Meanwhile, tons of people want to smoke weed and get high, hence not only the huge push to make it legal, but also the downplaying or even outright denial of any negative effects.

It is better, in the same way that taking a few huffs of CO1 is better for you than sealing your head in a bag full of CO2 for ten minutes. Pound for pound it might be just as bad ; or even worse, but very few people are going to smoke weed in quantities that come anywhere close to an average smoker's tobacco consumption.

I don't understand how weed and steroids can even be compared. They're two completely different substances with completely different effects and side effects on the body used for completely different purposes.
It's not an attempt at denying their differences, but they are both drugs, and it's interesting that weed and steroids are treated with opposite reactions in the west and in the east

Drugs is a very vague term that encompasses everything from caffeine and acetaminophen to LSD, crack and heroin and thousands of other substances.

Also, your premise is incorrect. These are the countries where steroids are legal without a prescription

Bahamas, Costa Rica, Columbia, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Korea, Poland, Thailand

These are the countries where steroids are legal only with a prescription

Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Japan, South Africa, Switzerland

It's really not an East vs. West thing at all.

I question your source as everything online suggests steroid use and import is legal in Japan and China. With Korea this means most of east asia does not punish steroid abuse unless used in a athlete competition

The NFL is already more or less genetic freaks + steroids.

345 lbs with six pack abs? C'mon now.

I can only speak for my own opinion here. I don't care if people smoke weed and feel better about the world. I DO care if people cheat to do what I try to do naturally. It doesn't affect me at all (I'm not a professional athlete), but it pisses me off. I think using steroids (without financial payoff) is usually symptomatic of some kind of personality disorder.
