The Last Unicorn will always be one of my favorite films. The animation is gorgeous, the characters are unique, and I like how it's more thoughtful than it seems at first glance...Everything about that film is perfect (i'm such a sperg for it)

I keep saying this, but amen, brother, amen.

Have you seen The Daydreamer or Mad Monster Party? They're also Rankin-Bass films, both stop-motion and both pretty good.

No, I haven't actually! But based on your comments they seem interesting films. The few clips i've seen on Youtube seem pretty cute, and I've always found charming the Rankin Bass stop-motion animation style. I think I'll like them.

Here's a 1981 Hungarian cartoon called Son of the White Mare (Fehérlófia) based on legends from central Eurasia. Enjoy

If you enjoy fun at all you'll probably enjoy Mad Monster Party; it's one of the most fun films ever made. Bad puns, rock 'n' roll and classic monster movies, what's not to like?

The Daydreamer, however, is Rankin-Bass's semi-fictionalized take on the life of Hans Christian Andersen, and I'd say it understands his work more than most Disney or faux-Disney adaptations of his work do. Here's the big angsty ballad they give to the Little Mermaid in this:

Cool, I'll watch them one of those days.

Aaw, her song's so nice! It reminds me a lot of "Now that I'm a Woman" for some reason, there's just something about these tragic ballads...

In a way i'm kinda glad TLU and some of these other films aren't that well known because otherwise they would be subjected to the cartoon spergs and their disgusting fetishes on DA or to the SJW womenchildren on tumblr with their racebending and headcanons and "what a weak female character!" bashing. Neither fate is desirable tbh...

It was before Disney had gotten to the Little Mermaid, so people still knew that the story's supposed to end tragically.

Most Tumblr cartoon spergs don't care about anything that isn't new or that they didn't grow up with, so thankfully this stuff is safe, safe, safe...

Oh, and by the by, I've been feeling nostalgic again...

Sometimes it's nice when some things are left alone. I can take pride in knowing that.

Thank you! At least grammar doesn't change (I hope).

Reminded I saw this recently (apparently Laren Faust helped out on this)...

That's not only hilarious (and incredibly timely), but it's a loving parody of the original - I actually recognized most of the references...

Glad to make your day. I think that might've been on of the earliest parodies ever done to SHR, but I could be wrong if there was one that showed up even earlier than 1995. They certainly did their homework here (being a student film from a prestigous southern California art school I could never go to).

It probably is the earliest parody of Schoolhouse Rock I can think of. The Simpsons' "Amendment to Be" was the same year; Johnny Bravo's "Sensitive Male" was '97...

Though there's also this, which I hope was a parody:

There's also Robert Smigel/J.J. Sedelmaier's "Conspiracy Theory Rock" for SNL the following year or two.

No it isn't, this was how they first presented these on tape nearly 30 years ago.

Pretty lame, but I guess presenting these on their own was either out of the question or simply didn't came to mind than to go and get a celeb and some kids in the studio for it.

I own most of these on tape, actually, with both cover versions.

Depressing, yes, but after the painful bits are over you can just watch the songs with little-to-no interruption.

True. This isn't like just grab a compiled reel, run it through the telecine and call it a day (and honestly a lot of early home video releases were like this, never a second thought about checking these out or anything as long as it played back fine enough).

I remember seeing Schoolhouse Rock a few times when I was younger too. It wasn't all that often though given its time slot.

I liked Canadian TV back then. Got to watch a decent amount of shows (some I regret watching too, I was there when Mega Babies aired. These internet critics these days wouldn't even know how much shame I suffered by watching most of the episodes. I can even remember laughing several times too, because dumb stupid kid and all.).

Don't plan on seeing it but based on interviews here and there it seems the reboot has turned into some hipster/SJW frenzy?

Even some SJWs are taking this thing to task.

By the by, they got rid of Ms. Bellum. They wrote her character out. She's gone.
Those mother fuckers. No wonder the show's bombing- They didn't include the character that SJWs would likely flock too. Then again, given the voice acting, animation and writing, the show would have sucked even before it left the editing bay.

And this is what Craig is giving his blessing to? That's sadder than sad.
