I didn't realise that, i just assumed he was short sighted and had a strong prescription that strained his eye muscles.The short version: Elliot has an autoimmune disorder that causes iritis, an inflammation of the eyes. During a flareup, he gets intense pain with every single expansion and contraction of the pupil, like grinding glass into his eyeballs intense. If it's really bad, the only recourse is to stay in total darkness to lessen the pain. This condition can indeed eventually cause blindness, and that's without going into other ways his immune system might be attacking him. The stinkditch probably isn't helping matters at all.
I picture him in his room in darkness, only illumination coming from the screen of his laptop. Each F5 is like getting a grain of sand in the eye.
And yes, he brought this on himself.
