A self-identified "cringey" California English teacher laimed she combats "white supremacy" "B.S." in her classroom by teaching students about the overemphasized importance of grammar usage and writing rules.
Marta Shaffer, a tenured English teacher at Oroville High School, began the 2022-2023 academic year by teaching parts of linguistics as a way of "fighting white supremacy in my classes," according to her posts on TikTok. The goal was to be "inclusive of all kinds of ways we use the language."
According to Shaffer, expectations for students to use proper grammar and syntax is part of White supremacy culture that "runs deep."

She said, "We study linguistics and the rules that we actually use to communicate instead of the made-up rules that White supremacy created for when we write papers and stuff, which is what scholars call the 'language of power.'"
The teacher raised praised student's academic essays for including "AAVE" language – African-American Vernacular English.
"As an educator I am constantly worry if I'm the problem. What do I mean by that? Well public education is an institution that upholds lots of problematic systems in our society like white supremacy, and misogyny and colonization, etc," she continued. "Well, let's look at how we write essays [where we] start with an introduction that includes a thesis, always cite your sources, use transition words like ‘however’ and ‘therefore.’ These are all made-up rules. They were created by Westerners in power. Which got me thinking, what if I started my school year with a unit honoring how we talk rather than teaching students how to write properly."

Another included a prompt which said that a student's "codes" – how they speak at home or with friends – is "just as important, if not more than important," than a boss's expectations on how their employee communicates.
She said, "Just because your teachers, your professors, and your boss may expect you to write and speak in a certain way that may not be natural to you, does not mean that your more natural… languages are not important. They are just as important, if not more important than the ‘language of respectability.’"

The English teacher added that she feels like a "cringe white lady" when "teaching students of color" about linguistics.

"Did I worry I was being a White savior? Absolutely. Was it uncomfortable? Definitely. But a lot my students come here, and they're uncomfortable with the white mainstream culture of public school life. So I think it's good for them to see their teacher deal with linguistic discomfort, too," she said.

The California teacher also claimed that the IQ bell curve and the SAT are "racist."
"The writers of these tests were made up almost entirely of White people… and they still are," she said.

Just wondering if not using proper grammar for foreign languages is White supremacy, just wondering as I might fly to the Middle East or Morocco.

Can I call a person correcting my not using their language properly White Supremacy?

If you think Peggy Hill speaks poor Spanish then you are a NAZI.

Fighting white supremacy by churning out illiterate retards. That's kind of showing you have a low opinion on non-white people. Like teaching people grammar so they can effectively communicate, preps them for life. Like these students will just have a harder time at higher grades, no one will take them seriously.

Ahhh the soft bigotry of low expectations! Haven't seen that in awhile, guess they're bringing it back.
A couple points:

1) It is not possible to effectively counter an ideological or political enemy while adopting their terms, paradigms, or slogans. It never works. Nor does seeking their approval. In this way, talking about soft bigotry of low expectations or how the Democrats are the racists is in effectual.

2) Beyond that, this is for whites as much as anyone. She thinks proper English, writing and speaking well is internatlized racism, and so seeks to deconstruct across all strata of society, especially among suburban whites.

All of this emanates from the descriptivist model that has gained favor among academics, dictionaries, and the like. Unfortunately, I see very little resistance. David Foster Wallace wrote a very persuasive essay on the matter. This is the shoter version of it:

There is a longer unedited version but i cannot find it at the moment.

I swear, every time I read about people like this in positions of authority or influence, this song starts going through my head. And I'm probably to the "left" of most Kiwis on economics, and a few cultural issues.

I also think of that joke of what to do if you're in a room with a New Black Panther Party member, an Aztlan Mexican supremacist, and this cunt, and have a gun with only two bullets. That's right -- shoot this POS twice. In the gut, angling downward, so that they die a long, agonizing death of peritonitis.

This somewhat burns, as being an English teacher was one of the things I wanted to do originally. It got shot down quick when my meeting with a "College Counselor" went something like this.

"What do you want to major in?"
"I'd like to be an English teacher, so whatever puts me on that path." (I didn't know, do I major in English or Education, is there a difference? You're the counselor, help me out)
"Do you speak Spanish?"
"No."
"Then you don't meet the requirements."

What the insipid fucking cow should've said was something like; "There is a foreign language requirement, if you don't have experience with a foreign language are you willing to learn?" But I live in California; where English is fucking evil and taco speak needs to be catered to. It's also pretty much mandated that any new fully-qualified teachers must have an ESL supplement with their teaching license, because expecting all the fucking illegals to learn the language is racist.

I'm also remembering an article from a long time ago about to help certain demographics; to allow an "Ebonics" class as a replacement class for the basic English classes in high-school.

An English teacher that not only doesn't teach English, but also teaches her students to unlearn it, should be fired right away. No pension, no severance pay, no nothing.
Makes me wonder if she gives lower scores according to who's the most grammatically accurate.

No, white people speaking a foreign language poorly is white supremacy, because they're not respecting the language.

As someone who is genetically British, culturally a Bong, and born English, I want to shoot her in the face with chainshot.

Fucking appropriate my language you worthless cunt, I know where Oroville is. I've been there.

I'll come back.
I'm so sorry that you, as a Brit, had to experience Oroville.
If Hollie Dance lived in the USA, she would live in Oroville.

The thing is, you can change graduation requirements so that everyone passes but young people still get their skills tested one way or another and the world will see it. Outside of this bitch's classroom the rest of the world will expect cogent English in any occupation worth a damn, so she is hamstringing her students.

No offense to teachers, but there are many disaffected baristas out there who weren't able to make a go of it with their whatever-studies degree who go back to school to get their English teaching credential. If you're bitter you make sure your students suffer your same fate.

The English department is where teachers can teach basically whatever.

You ever get the suspicion that they are intentionally doing stuff like this to make black students dumber and poorer? It’s bad enough as it is that anti-white discrimination still prevails by the same people that practice white guilt.
That's all its ever been. Atomize society through language so international capital and power can't be widely discussed or challenged. That's all that this woke shit has always been, ever since the bastards in power dragged it out of the sewers of academia and dumped it on the public consciousness.

Since the place is 12 percent Latino, shouldn't she be teaching Wetback English instead of AAVE?

Found the culprit as to why every youtube comments section has stellar gems such as "...he should of did" and "this doesn't effect me at all!"
This was actually the result of a shift in teaching philosophies/programs/something that was part of the 'hooked on phonics' craze.

There was a far greater emphasis placed on simply sounding out words/sentences/etc. which is why you get shit like 'should of' or 'could of' or whatever. To clarify, there's nothing wrong with sounding out a word, but when that's the only way you know how to do things? Yeah, you're going to come off sounding like you have a room temperature IQ.

I really wish I had saved the article that dove into this, because it was fascinating seeing how simple tweaks to education curriculum can have far-reaching consequences. Would be incredibly applicable with the huge changes that are ongoing in Current Year education.
