It's funny, because The Umbrella Academy also features a character who is an adult man in a child-sized body due to time travel shenanigans. The other characters remark on this a lot during Seasons 1 and 2. But in Season 3, when you see them standing next to each other, you kinda have to do a double-take and remind yourself which one's supposed to be the adult.

The actor who plays him was born 18/Sep/2003, meaning he was 14 when Season 1 filmed in early 2018 (they aged him up considerably from the source material, where he's stated to be 10). Height in the low 5-foot range, but probably not shorter than 5' 2". He's about 5' 7" now, but the story doesn't have any time skips, so they did try to keep his appearance consistent between seasons.

Because of this, Five has only ever appeared to be the same age, if not slightly older, than Page's character, who might generously be mistaken for a teen boy who's yet to have his growth spurt by the time we see her in Season 3. For comparison, Ellen Page is 5' 1" (rounded up).

Never once do any of the characters bring up in Season 3 that their supposed "brother" Victor is shorter as an adult than the kid they mocked in the first 2 seasons for looking like a kid. They just accept Viktor's new name and pronouns, and don't even attempt to mock her like they did to Five.

It gives the impression that they don't really see her as a man, and are lying about it to spare her feelings – which, considering she destroyed the world in two different timelines over hurt feefees, is probably the smart thing to do.

I have no dog in this race (okay a small one. a chihuahua.) but I think the case for fair-use in-spirit is stronger for the written word. You have to know what the fuck it is about. E.g. you need to have read the original or at least watched the movie to know what the fuck The Wind Done Gone (fat nig literarily rapes Vivien Leigh) is about.

A lot of what's on AO3 has hardly anything to do with the original material. Either it's just porn (and women who have a specific fetish can schlick to it without knowing anything about the source) or the characters are so generic that you can pretty much make it about anyone by filing off the serial numbers. I mean, Fifty Shades of Grey was literally a Twilight fanfic but in an office setting and nobody's a vampire.

The way the show handles it seems so awkward and disingenuous, and it's so clear they're terrified to add anything that could seem transphobic to any of the characters. Like oh boy our characters are edgy and mean and flawed, but they're not transphobes!

At one point, her sister desperately yells to try to get her attention when she's in a trance, and it's just "Victor!!". Like, if you were really desperate to try to get the attention of someone who just days ago changed their name, you'd probably also try calling out the previous name, right? You'd expect her to say "Vanya! " at least once while desperately yelling to try to get a reaction.

Vanya also fights with her sister in the show, and at no point in their vicious exchanges does her sister once call her anything other than her new male name. Plenty of low-blows in the exchange, but that would be a bridge too far I guess. The scenes of them together are also hilarious. It's one thing to see tiny Page next to an actual, large sized man. It's another, even funnier thing to see her next to a slightly taller than average woman.

There is one moment where a different character says "$20 on the little one." when Victor and her sister are fighting, which I thought was very funny.
