Despite his poor, anecdotel research, there's not much to say other than it's just him projecting his insecurities onto people within the hobby because of his performance-anxiety and can't handle the bants in the competitive scene, but this blurb in particular stuck out:

I can only guess at what Doe was saying here, but if I am reading it correctly, this suggests that Doe is in a house with guns, but he's feeling so mentally unstable that he fears he might deteriorate to a point where he might reach for those guns. Hence the other person instructing Doe to tell his psychiatrist about his gun, so that the guns might have to be removed if Doe has a mental breakdown.
