You’re absolutely right, since the pandemic killed all the old fashioned small business barbershops and I can no longer get a proper cut I shave my old beard and mustache and my wife cuts my hair but I’m a man and I’m supposed to have hair. This is very different from slitting throats, smashing someone's head with a cinder block or sledgehammer, etc. The CON chat was private and had a closed membership and Jake doesn't express a desire to have his "enemies" die in some ghastly way. Perhaps he was self-censoring? I don't think Jake was biting his tongue.

I read this as Jake feeling good during the CON days because -- he falsely believed -- he had found a strong candidate for the symbolic mother role. Chelsea/Zoe is "semiotically charged" from Jake's perspective, she represented much that he was seeking, albeit inchoate.

Chelsea to Jake:

1. Accepts that Jake is a woman (at least initially before she learned what he looked like);
2. First female (non-)friend;
3. First potential sexual experience;
4. Source of employment;
5. Source of income;
6. Source of health care;
7. Source of his (imaginary) empowerment;
8. Redeemer and validator;
9. Recognizes the value of his "work"; and
10. Cause for optimism regarding the future.

Chelsea could do for Jake what his actual mother couldn't or wouldn't do for him.

Jake had no cause to be harboring rage and his Tweets and chat logs show that he was happy to have his enemies "just" lose their jobs and be imprisoned. Even though Jake has no legal expertise (and neither do the other members of CON) he was confident that he had discovered numerous crimes and was in possession of evidence of these crimes. He expressed a misguided expectation that the FBI would fulfill his "endgame". No vigilantism and no violence.

Before I attempt to explain Jake's qualitative change regarding the preferred manner of disposal of his enemies I want to reiterate the importance of being mothered to Jake. Jake tells us what he considers to be mothering and implicitly tells us that he wants to be mothered:





For Jake, CON failed in every way. None of his enemies were imprisoned or lost their jobs. Jake didn't get paid employment, he got no remuneration at all. The FBI didn't act on Jake's investigative journalism and legal opinion. Chelsea discarded Jake. The other CON members made Jake persona non grata. Jake finalized his ostracization with his "Zoe Post" and the "Rakshasa Incident". Everyone failed and/or betrayed Jake and as per Jake's self-concept, none of this was Jake's fault. He was the victim.

By this period in Jake's biography he had failed at everything:

• the unnamed video game he had started working on c. 2010 was never completed;
• he wasn't able to turn his unpaid writing for RPGamer into paid work;
• no one wanted to pay Jake to create Slime World;
• The Massive vs The Masses flopped;
• his "enemies" were unaffected by his malicious intent;
• the FBI didn't treat Jake's Dossier of Fredrick Brennan as a foundational document for convicting Brennan;
• he lost all of his (non-)friends; and
• he lost his potential mother figure in Chelsea.

He would try for 2(?) years to restore his imaginary friendship with Chelsea, but this too would be in vain. The world was even more threatening and hostile than Jake originally believed. He needed a mother figure more than ever. No one was willing to mother Jake. I think that this would be sufficient to make Jake seethe and rage. LE wasn't going to help Jake destroy his enemies so that he would feel safe and comforted. What to do? Attempt to incite your Twitter followers to murder people in brutal (and impractical) ways.

So where does the enigmatic "Jovial Jake" that we hear on his gaming streams come from? How can we reconcile "Murderous Jake" with "Jovial Jake"?

Playing video games is one of Jake's childhood activities that he can continue in adulthood. Jake can play video games in the same manner as a carefree child because he is a NEET. He can also watch children's shows to his heart's content just like he did when he was a child. When Jake watches Kamen Rider for 8 hours or plays a video game (badly) for as long as he desires -- in the absence of constraining responsibilities -- he is re-living part of the childhood he so desperately wants to recreate. He regresses to childhood and this makes him happy. But this is an isolated island of joy. Jake wants more. Jake wants you to do all the other things that mom did: bring him hot cocoa and a blanket, feed him, hug him, fuss over him, praise him, tell him how special he is, buy him stuff, shield him from any and all responsibility and so on.

Oh yes, the kind of fantasies I meant were the kind where they fantasize about living in violence. Murderous Nazis camping out on Chelsea's lawn, keeping "bug-out bags" and "safe houses" of their own, going to comical lengths to "keep spies out", and so on. CON laid the groundwork for Jake's imaginary world suffused with violence, and as he continued to run with that LARP years after everyone else got bored with it, I think it naturally evolved into murderousness. I mean, if you're constantly under attack, the cops won't do anything, and your new batch of "friends" love to talk about tossing bricks and throwing punches, someone should do something, right?

I can think of a few reasons.

• He thinks he has something truly important to say, and it's depriving the world of his insights if he keeps it behind a paywall
• Similar to first, he can't call himself an activist if his "activism" is hidden
• No one (especially not Zoe) will give him attention if he only posts on Patreon. He lives for likes, retweets, and comments from people who matter, none of whom (mysteriously enough) have subscribed to his Patreon.
• On some level, I think he realizes no one really cares about what he's writing and if he moves to Patreon only, no one will ever read his shit ever again. If people need to make the modicum of effort it takes to log in somewhere, they're not going to bother
• Twitter is full of his "friends" and counts as social interaction for him
• Twitter is the site of the only good memories he has. For a brief moment, he mattered.
• According to my tinfoil, Patreon is just his means of fooling the government into thinking he has some sort of steady income anyway, and it would serve him no purpose to write for it specifically (wouldn't want to waste his brilliant articles on a sham)
• Jake is lazy and autistic and he doesn't like change

Tumblr fills many of these needs and is also a better platform for long, rambling diatribes. But there's really no chance of him going viral, attracting media (or Zoe's) attention, etc. so if someday he finds the courage/his autism relents enough to delete that Tweet and regain his account, I expect it'll be abandoned.

I don't have firsthand knowledge because I don't like twitter and am therefore not on it. If I were on it, I wouldn't purposefully be incoherent, either.

In any case, based on the way it's written it appears that they are two separate and opposing options; he can appeal instead of deleting the tweet but his account will be locked in the meantime. Right or wrong, Jake believes this as well, as he wrote in his rant: "Before me are two buttons I can press. I can click... “appeal”... at this point I would be locked out of touching the website in any way shape or form until this form is looked over... The second option is that I can click that big red “Delete” button, that says “By clicking Delete, you acknowledge that your Tweet violated the Twitter Rules.”

Note that I edited out around 2/3 of what Jake actually babbled and lost no relevant information.

He then writes in his more recent screed: "I am currently suspended from Twitter... and I have no idea how to regain access to my account."

Which is idiocy because of course he fucking knows how to regain access to his account. He can hit the delete button and that's it, problem done. Alternatively, he can appeal. Jake being Jake, he looks likely to continue whining and hoping that someone else takes care of his problem instead of deciding on one of the two obvious solutions placed in front of him.
