Steve1989MREInfo / Steve1989 / Steve Thomas - that guy that eats old MREs

Apparently people have messaged him on Facebook, he's been super busy with his actual job (landscaping) and thus hasn't had the time or mood to film a good review
As much as I like Steve's videos, it's heartwarming to know there are people for whom the Internet is an afterthought. This is his hobby, he's sharing it with us, and he has probably never referred to it unironically as "content."

I like to picture Steve sleeping like a beardy ginger vampire, arms crossed over his chest as he lies motionless inside a giant olive drab retort pouch.

I wonder if the economic cost cutting has gotten to MREs yet, I wouldn't be surprised if today's rations are significantly worse in quality than Vietnam.
Based off of what I have seen and heard, it seems like the quality of American MREs has gone down as cost cutting measures in general, independent of the chingles induced economic spiral. I'd be surprised if they could easily swap things out of a "true" MRE, given how much actual food design goes into making those shelf stable, palatable, visually appealing, and meeting specific nutritional requirements, but I also am operating off second hand info from preppers and the like so take that with a grain of salt. You could definitely see it in ones that use off the shelf canned or dried goods, given how many of those have gone downhill in quality in recent years. It could be coming though, the U.S. military is struggling to get anyone to join for obvious reasons.

They'll most likely just give them 20-10 year old MRE's. Even in Vietnam they ate MRE's from the 40s and 50's source is my dad who is also a fan of Steve.

It's been quite the time since Steve last posted anything

Has he given up on his channel I wonder?

IIRC he's commented within the year at least that he hasn't given up on the channel.

I just assume we might be reaching a point where he is having trouble finding MRE's that he hasn't done or are worth doing. That and maybe real life shit just popped up.

I'm not on facebook so I can't verify if it's true or not but I've read on the subreddit dedicated to his channel that he's more active there with regards to whenever his channel "becomes inactive" and 100% it's due to him being a functional, successful adult and his youtube channel being a hobby.

Time to binge his old videos, I guess.

I've hoped he started experimenting with his commercial-level freeze-dryer and designed some actual MRE-type meals for preppers/campers/whatever. I'd probably buy a few just for the hell of it and maybe as the core of a bugout bag.

He should really actually be designing MREs for a real military somewhere.

Steve is the only food youtuber I'd love to meet IRL.
Same, although it depends if Steve Wallis counts as a food YouTuber. He has the opposite relationship to MREs, but can sure cook a stew without the rangers noticing him.

I've always been interested in Humanitarian Daily Rations, but not quite enough to pull the trigger on a case for emergency purposes. Steve hit on the same reasoning I had: it'd be good to have something easy for young/old to eat without heating and without as much milk or scary meat. Looks like they'd be good in a situation where it's a disaster but also you're in a suburb, but the relatively short storage life is a minus.

It's cute how surprised and happy Steve is to eat something that's pleasant. He's having a great time exploring a new ration in the CCAR video, but everything in the HDR was nice.

I'm so glad the facial hair is back.

Steve is probably the only guy where long gaps between uploads make me genuinely wonder if he's dead, cause the botulism or some other shit finally caught up with him.
Almost felt a strange sense of relief when I saw his new uploads.

Granted, he's not only focused only on food, but you should look into Townsends. He seems like a genuinely nice guy who's interested in all things 18th century/early Americana.
I wish they could have done a crossover episode on that vintage hardtack Steve ate, just a couple of history dorks having their Special Interests overlap.

In my experience the HDR for sale you either need to buy a full case, or can only get random menu (I never see any HDR listing that allowed you to pick the menu), and the menu is/seems to be pretty small.
If you are planning for a longer emergency, just stick to MREs/foreign military rations/civilian market rations.

The only thing worth while IMO in the HDR Is (not sure about newer ones) was the original MRE crackers are/were in them , which were better then then TFF ones you find in MREs now.
