Not Just Bikes / r/fuckcars / Urbanists / New Urbanism / Car-Free / Anti-Car - People and grifters who hate personal transport, freedom, cars, roads, suburbs, and are obsessed with city planning and urban design

Venice being an example of a car-free city, lol. The lagoon is car-free, yes. It's also free of anything else that isn't tourist-oriented, and hilariously inaccessible for anyone not particularly well on their feet. Bridges and stairs everywhere. Bikes are not an option.
Also, it's great to visit for a few days, but it's not a great place to live. It's cramped af, narrow, dark alleys are basically all there is. The boats are pretty expensive, but on the lagoon you don't really need them that often.
It can work that way because it's all very tiny and very cramped. On land, without the restrictions of the lagoon? Venice is just another Italian city with the regular amount of roads and cars (and the regular amount of terrible Italian drivers, although at least the northerners are better than the southerners).
At least the canals don't smell anymore.
I ca bullshit on that.
Northern drivers are braindead.
Southerners are streetsmart!

Oh my Gawd, an accident obviously caused by negligent parents? We need to ban cars and throw that driver in prison NOW NOW NOW NOW. What do you mean the parents are clearly at fault here? What are you, a CARBRAIN? REEEEEEE.

If a cyclist rocketing through the neighborhood at top speed hit and killed a kid, it would be the cyclist dindu nuffin and negligent parents.

That's the part that really frustrates me about all this. It's not as though the fuckcars utopia would be devoid of vehicles that could kill children at speed. There would be the trains and trams they worship like autistic retards, there would be buses, there would be bikes, there would be delivery vehicles. Hell I'm pretty sure those christawful rental scootypuffs that they simp for could kill a two-year old at speed. It's bad enough they're propagating their worldview on the back of a child's corpse, but they propagate a worldview that wouldn't even prevent this. I remember when I lived in Portland the tram lines were infamous for killing people and causing accidents, to the point that they were nicknamed "Mad MAX".

That reminds me of a story this summer where some immigrant family's backyard backed onto a public trail which was near the GoTrain Commuter rail line. So some 4 year was able to get onto the tracks but no it's not the parent's fault for not securing their backyard.

Well fuck, it happened. A thread about my communist, tree hugging, car hating area, Agenda 21 loving of expertise. Urban planning, New Urbanism, sustainability and my favorite, and most advanced skill. Urban forestry. Trees in the city, yes. Im a city tree expert. Fancy ass paper with my name on it that says I am full of it, and will tell you about it if you want or not.

I wonder if it can carry as much as a "big" truck. That looks like a Daihatsu Hijet/Toyota Pixis/Subaru Sambar. Here is its payload capacity:

And here are the F-150's possible payload capacities:

Ah well it has a small bed, it's not like anyone would be stupid enough to actually try and treat it like a full size truck and pile 1000 pounds of stuff in it:

I see a few of those Kei vans at car meets and shows. They're cute and sure you can do stuff with them but you have to import them and the van has to be >=25 years old. They can be found for fairly reasonable on auction sites but really you can't compare them to newer, similarly priced domestic trucks. It's really more of a novelty.

Oh...

An overloaded truck is one of those "tell me that you're a Mexican without telling me you're a Mexican" tests.

I wish they were streel legal everywhere and could be imported new.
Halfpint 4x4, a division of BigFoot 4x4 sells them.

They sell them for off road use like a side by side.
They claim they can set you up with one for less than the price of a side by side.

I know faceborg is cancer but they don't have a web page for the little trucks.
They haven't updated in a while so they may have gotten out of the little truck business.

Used to run around the flightline on air bases in a Daihatsu 3 speed. It was governed at 35 mph. On public roads, no I wouldn't, but on a farm or military base, highly recommended. Just having a enclosed cab and heater was a blessing. If pickups trucks are workhorses, these are the donkeys. Quirky small, but damn useful.

Many countless hours were lost trying to gold trophy the Daihatsu Midget races in Gran Turismo 4.

I can see that being a great use case. We already sort of have that with those weird cargo golf carts. The Kei trucks are a tad too big for some reason to fulfill that role in the states.

I have noticed that /r/fuckcars has much lower activity than it used to; it's fallen into the typical reddit pattern of a handful of posts having hundreds to thousands of upvotes with the vast majority of new posts only getting a single/double digit number of upvotes.

/r/fuckcars user has a baby and discovers that she needs a car now, so she asks for advice on which car to buy:

I agree that veganism is like urbanism. Both are retarded environmentalist cults not achievable in practice for a significant population. It's funny seeing them come up with excuses for why they aren't basically the same thing.

You know what? I wish these fuckers would. Ban cars in the city center of some city like Seattle or New York. Have infinite busses just driving up and down every single street, stopping at each corner to let people on and off, just absolutely free. Let them try it, let's see how it works.

The worst part of the damn federal system in the US is we don't have states doing absolute batshit stuff like that just to see what happens.
