I decided to try the official Mastodon iOS app and it's not even as good as 2008 Twitter.

Can't change the font size or turn media on and off.Posting a link doesn't give a preview, just a raw link. Timeline often has "Tap to load missing posts" which dumps a bunch of posts into the TL and messes up the reading position.

It's basically an MVP demo and I can't imagine all the journalists using it for long.

It really is. Look at the Youtuber/BreadTuber ContraPoints. A hardcore Twatter addict like him tried to go to Mastodon but he only lasted there for three days before going back to Twatter.
Mastodon went out of their way to personally welcome Nyk to their platform, but of Nyk's 519k Twatter followers, only 10k signed into Mastodon. Barely 2% followed him off-platform.
