Warhammer 40k

Do not buy a physical printed codex. Chances are less than 20% of the datasheets on it are still legit. The rest is just fluff and photos. They don't even bother with cool new art anymore.

I AM A CONSUMER WHORE

... I can't even tell if that's a good start to an army or just a meme. Also I'm pretty sure playing knights makes you both that guy as well as infinitely pitiable because you ain't winning shit.

It's about 1000 points on the table, and a big guy with armigers as support is pretty typical. Knights have been surprisingly competitive as of late too. Magnetize all the weapons to give yourself options.

Y'know, I heard about Warhammer 40k and I went down the rabbit hole. I started with the wiki, then I watched a ton of lore videos on YouTube. It's all fascinating, the dark future, the chaos gods, the imperium of man, the immaterum, the god emperor, the tyrannids, everything. Truly fascinating. But then a thought struck me. "Wait a minute" I said to myself. "How do you play the fucking game?"
Look up rules for Kill Team. It's an official 40k variant ruleset that's generally a lot cheaper and more fun than the larger game.

Well. To be fair, I don't need to start a 4th Army.

... I could buy the AdMech or Custodes ones to add to my current ones, actually.

Still on eBay. Funny it was initially being sold for the typical third-party 15% discount, but then the sellers bumped it up to MSRP since it's the popular one selling fast. All of the other battleforce box sets are still 15% off.

Is there anywhere you can get bootleg miniatures to save money? (I'm guessing GW runs a tight copyright ship).
I don't have a 3d printer and no one to play with (WELL there was a GW shop in the bigger city close by technically)

3D prints or China. The quality of either can vary wildly. Army books and rules you can just download.
I've never been able to find a seller for Chinese recasts but I know they exist. 3d printing is probably the best option but GW is pretty strict with making DCMA claims against publicly available models. Most of that community has been forced onto Telegram and even then they have to make new channels every 6 months or so to avoid GW's attention. A cheap 2k printer like Creality's Halot One is more than enough for what you'll need, and it's cheaper than any factions starter set on its own. I dumped a lot of money on my necron army before realizing printing was the way to go. I now have a 1k pt sororitas army that only cost me about $15 in resin to make.

I found a Russian recast site recently, but the prices were inexplicably far MORE than GW. I just wanted some more Bretonnians, god damn it.

Well, duh, what did you expect here, GW have sanctioned Russian segment of community, along with some other brands. Doesn't mean their shit can't reac h the market, it pretty much gets there but considering the... more complex ways of bringing the stuff here, the prices have spiked significantly.

Also, am I guessing right and you've looked at what the guys from "The Station" have to offer?

Apparently they'd always been quite expensive, even before the recent sanctions. I did think that was the cause, but apparently not.
I'll have to express ignorance on "The Station", but would obviously love to change that.

These guys. Basically lore tellers, wargame and tabletop enjoyers.
Iirc the planned to start printing the models themselves, no idea if they do have license for that or not, I'm not into tabletop, I just listen to their "Znai\Do know" videos. They are quite interesting and, unlike fucking Warp Beacon, they don't hide half of the lore video episode behind the paywall.
