Star Wars Expanded Universe Fans/Cultists - I HOPE YOU LIKE STAR WARS AUTISM

KOTOR2's endgame is so satisfying as a Sith Lord. Hearing the wet slaps of bodies hitting the floor after using Death Field or Force Storm is disturbingly exhilarating. Doing absolutely massive single-target damage with Force Crush helps too. All this for jack-shit FP cost.

SURPRISE EU COCKFAGS!!!

GUESS WHAT PART OF THE EU JUST GOT AIRLIFTED BACK INTO CANON (via one line mention in an official reference book)?!

THATS RIGHT EUFAGS!!! KOTOR IS BACK IN CANON!! WHILE ALL YALL MARA JADES AND THRAWNS AND EMPRAH CLONES ARE LESS CANON THAN ITCHY'S BALLSACK!!!

*ahem

Apologies for my exubrance, but I felt it fitting to inform the masses here as to the fact that some EU is certainly being integrated back into star wars canon.

But not the things they want

Considering Rens entire costume design looks so much like Revan, it does not surprise me.

"Deadly Lightsaber skills"
Bullshit. That's clearly his weakest skill. Fucking Finn did a good job of fighting him and he couldn't even beat TR-8R.

Sorry to necro the thread, but I literally just remembered this and I think it deserves a mention here. I've mentioned elsewhere that back in 2008-10 I was a member of the Lego brickfilming community. There was a sub-group of that community which was dedicated to making Republic Commando-style films involving elite clone squads. The people who made up this community were Mandalorian/Republic Commando/Karen Traviss fanboys and big ones at that.

Anyway, when the trailer for Clone Wars Season 3 dropped there was a brief (maybe slightly longer than a second) shot of Delta Squad in it. Most people would have just said: "Oh cool, Delta Squad is appearing" or "It's Clone Wars, who gives a fuck?". Not these people. Oh no. Here is an image that was made by one of the major brickfilmers in the community shortly after the trailer appeared:

Yes everyone, THIS is when Star Wars lost its dignity. Not with the Holiday Special, not with Jar-Jar, not with the Ewoks cartoon, not when Greedo shot first, not with the entirety of the Prequel Trilogy (I could run forever with this thread but I won't) but when Delta Squad was featured in a trailer for barely more than a second. And as anyone who's watched the episode knows, they appeared in the show only slightly longer than they appeared in the trailer and were never seen again.

The EU autism was as rampant before the Disney sale as it is now.

Lol, since when did the SWEU ever have dignity? In terms of literature, it had the Thrawn Trilogy, and then everything else was either entirely average pulp sci-fi or an unmitigated wank fest. Or written by Karen Travis.

Seriously, when you're getting Karen fucking Travis to write EU material for you, you're basically doing the equivalent of soaping up your ass and bending over in the middle of a prison shower just to get it over with quicker.

While this is probably an admission of autism, I think the loss of any dignity SW ever had was Han not shooting first. Han would have shot first, Han did shoot first, and Han would have been a moron not to shoot first.

star wars is for people with autism &/or fat manchildren who consider themselves film critics and have a strange affinity for board games and the webcomic 'pearls before swine'

It's fine that you admit it, Meme.

Then the healing can begin.

I recently got done reading Outbound Flight by Timothy Zahn which serves as a prequel to a bunch of his novels (most prominently the Thrawn Trilogy). It was a good read but there was a moment which made me so happy the EU got nuked. Thrawn asks why all the Jedi must be killed and is told the galaxy needs to be united against an unknown alien threat which is the Yuuzhan Vong (even though they're not named).

Palpatine was just pure evil, he didn't need a motivation. Especially not one as ham-fisted and nonsensical as that. It ruined a perfectly good book and I'm so happy that stupid plot thread is gone now.

Don't mean to be a necromancer, but I found some lovely 'tism and rage in the comments.

To be honest, I'm not sure how genuine this one is.

More rage about Disney killing childhoods.

Complaints that people don't read their precious EU.

Overall, the comments there are cancerous. They're divided between anti-SJW types accusing Disney of pandering to women, people asking if this is episode 8, and people comparing the trailer to the Hunger Games.

I think that the comments section of this trailer, will be ripe for choice pickings like these for the next weeks, if not months to the next trailer.

Sorry to powerlevel but I was a more mild version of this not long ago.

Honestly though, if you hate the changes made like I do, there are better ways than sperging on the internet. I'm simply not going to watch Star Wars movies until they don't feel or look like fanfictions. That's what these dweebs need to do. Hate where the franchise is going? Don't watch it. The series you grew up with has evolved. It's your choice whether you can adapt because as long as you go to see it they won't care.

I never really subscribed to the EU stuff. I was aware of it, but I guess I always knew they'd come back to it all eventually and the new films under Abrams et al really didn't surprise me. Even the God-awful prequels were massive cash cows and Hollywood's PCP'd out execs won't allow something to die gracefully if money can be made out of it.

Personally? I like the fact they've decided to go a little women-heavy for the protagonists and are generally changing it up a little with the new designs, tactics etc. If the whole series remained absolutely static we'd bloody well hate it as well.

While Daisy Ridley's character does skirt the mary-sueism one of the things that the prequels did do better were the lightsabre fights. Not going to complain that they decided to keep some of that crap in.

The original trilogy had all of two (live) women in the entire damn galaxy. And most casual fans/people who watched Star Wars didn't go on to buy the novels, comic books etc which did give bigger page time to women.

I do feel it's a shame that they've had to throw out the entire EU as there is some stuff in there, but I can also see things somewhat from their own perspective. To make the movies they'd have to endlessly get permission from the authors in order to use the stuff they created, and then you'd have to split up royalties every which way for the bits you did use and you'd have to somehow determine the value of the screen time etc.

That's always been my biggest problem with Disney. Admittedly 8 of the first 10 years post ROTJ are some of the stupidest crap in the entire universe (So there's these bad guys invading the galaxy! Oh! It turns out they are running from THESE guys now invading the galaxy! OH! THEY ARE BOTH RUNNING FROM A DEATH RACE NOW INVADING THE GALAXY GUYS!) it gave us the Thrawn storyline which was really well done and impressive. I wish they had chosen to clean up the universe rather than chuck it all out because things like KOTOR and the original clone wars cartoon were great pieces of media. However, there's nothing I can do now except complain about it so it's better for me to look for a new sci-fi series to spend my time with.

They were better choreographed from a mechanical standpoint than the lightsaber fights from the classic trilogy, but I never cared about what was happening or who was winning. With the classic saber fights, the blades only came out when Shit Just Got Real, and that made even the gimpy old man fight between Vader and Obi-Wan on the Death Star more thrilling than the endless parade of saber-raves we had in the prequels.

Full disclosure: the threeway saber fight at the end of I still rocks face.

Which is where I think VII wins out as a good film. The sabres come out in that same "Shit got real" method and I hope that will continue into VIII and IX. But the choreography is just oh so much more as a result of the technological advances. The fight in the forest was really damn nice.

I seem to dimly recall that Lucas et al did actually want longer and better lightsabre fights in the original trilogy but couldn't due to budget restraints, restraints that didn't go away even when the money and popularity grew, by the time of the prequals those effects had become some of the cheapest effects to do thanks to CGI tech, so its no wonder Lucas went all out when he had the chance.

Heck, a friend of mine was doing that sort of crap back in 2000 oh his own computer as an overlay effect.

No real surprise he went overboard into the rave-a-thon.
