This sounds ridiculously unconstituional. It's sad that we won't see this get BTFO in court, because it deserves to.
You sound unfamiliar with the clause in the constitution that supersedes the Bill of Rights and indeed all the rest of the document when misinformation threatens our sacred democracy

We actually might. There's an ongoing lawsuit by Louisiana and Missouri (mentioned and linked in the article) against a whole bunch of federal agencies, concerning precisely these actions. If this goes to SCOTUS in its present composition, they're going to win if the claims are true. This lawsuit is also very useful due to interesting things being dug up during discovery, like Fauci's daughter working for Twitter during the pandemic.
What's less winnable in court is this situation with the FBI and Hunter's laptop. The official version that the FBI only spread rumors about incoming Russian psyop, so that later Twitter censored it by itself. We don't know if there's some smoking gun in the form of an agent explicitely demanding censorship. Maybe it is there, maybe Baker deleted it, maybe it wasn't there in the first place. Zuckerberg actually let something like this slip on Joe Rogan, but that's a long way to prove something.
FBI operatives spreading false rumors is not a violation of 1A, it's also practically impossible to prove that this was a lie vs honest mistake.

If they're saying Baker deleted stuff and it's not recoverable I don't buy that. That was the only copy of the data? Did he use some soopar speshul glownigger wipe program? Did he physically destroy the storage medium? It's not easy to make data totally unrecoverable on a physically undamaged drive

It's very easy in the age of SSDs. All you need to do is to fill the drive completely with some other data, so that the load balancing software has to reuse old blocks, actually erasing them. Only very old magnetic drives could be somewhat recovered after being overwritten.
Whether anything was actually deleted is a different question. These people were meeting in person, and if I were in their position, I would rather keep the record clean.

But actively using the tools at these social media companies and preasuring the brainwashed/guilted/true-believier drones employed there in response to said rumors has got to be, right? It's one thing to say something, it's a whole other thing to act maliciously on it.

You're kidding right? They claimed hunter biden's laptop was something made up by the ruskis to take biden down in the 2020 race. I ask you: How the fuck is showing the world the private computer of the son of a then-presidential candidate's crack pipes, sexpest escapades and duck's dork beneficial to the russians' efforts in playing landgrab with ukraine? When, keep in mind, they were at a standstill during Trump's term? And if it was all fake and gay, why the fuck were the glowinthedarks ductaping every mouth and disappearing every dissenter about it until their guy got in the white house AND continued to do so until Musk decided to pay to play chaotic neutral?

Honest mistake, my ashtray. 🚬

That they knew the laptop was real is obvious - they were sitting on it for a year.
The question is: what can you prove in a court of law? Let's even assume that you have proved that they were knowingly lying, can you tell which law was broken? What was it? It wasn't violation of the 1A (nothing in the 1A about government agents lying). Maybe you could construct it as libel against the NYPost? But can someone be libeled anonymously? They didn't mention NYPost by name.

It's okay because the government was only politely asking Twitter to do the censoring, and Twitter is a private company who can do what they want
That's the the law at present. I doubt if you could even use anti-trust laws against the social media companies colluding to censor. Most of these laws concern extracting monopoly rents from customers, and in these case users are not customers, and certainly they haven't paid unfair prices.
The existing laws simply do not fit this new situation. This kind of mass censorship by monopolies wasn't technically possible before. There will be push from both sides to regulate social media, but this will open another can of worms, because it's hard to define what precisely are we trying to forbid here. Should social media companies be completely banned from removing legal content? What about thematic forums where you ban off-topic content? What about spam, porn and gore? Should it only be applied to monopolies/cartels? Imagine debating this in the boomer-infested Congress.
I predict that the left will push for some 'expert' board (like the Jankowicz one) in charge of what can be said, while the GOP will successfully challenge that on 1A grounds. But since they can't rely on private companies being on their side, they will probably try to somehow strip them from the section 230 protections if they moderate too much (this is being done already in the judiciary). This in turn will backfire and result in a wave of lawsuits from malicious actors whose spam and porn was removed by some random mod, possibly causing exodus. It's going to be a shitshow in the next couple of years.

The timing is very interesting, can we assume that Musk might have looked at files the fired FBI cnt withheld and found coms between twitter and the feds asking for Stone to be suspended?

Im still waiting on that blanket amnesty
I think that amnesty is being slowly rolled out. I suspect that long-zapped accounts have had their associated data trimmed in the 'live' Twitter DB, and taking them back online involves some data recovery/resurrection work. I'm seeing long-banned accounts come back, but in a trickle every few days, not all at once.

I imagine the logic would be something to the effect of
Listen here Jack, Putin doesn't want me to be president because I'd kick Russia right in the pants. They're trying to discredit old Joe so that Trump can sellout Ukraine to Putin.

Freedom of speech on Twitter is a fucking joke, & Twitter is still the center of cancel culture. My account was just locked because I referred to MYSELF as a dumb redneck. Uhm hello, I am a dumb redneck as anyone here on the farms will agree. What is this politically correct bullshit masquerading as free speech?

Elon Musk hints censorship docs may have been hidden or deleted

Archive
Twitter owner Elon Musk confirmed that some important data in the “Twitter Files” internal documents he has made public to reveal Twitter’s history of censorship, may have been hidden or deleted. He assured users that “everything we find will be released.”

Musk tweeted in response to a tweet by Twitter’s founder Jack Dorsey, who gave little transparency during his time running Twitter, that read: “If the goal is transparency to build trust, why not just release everything without filter and let people judge for themselves? Including all discussions around current and future actions? Make everything public now. #TwitterFiles.”

Musk wrote back: “Most important data was hidden (from you too) and some may have been deleted, but everything we find will be released.”

On Tuesday, Twitter’s general counsel James “Jim” Baker was fired for vetting the first batch of the files, according to Matt Taibbi, the journalist who is publishing the “Twitter Files” on behalf of Musk.
