The official excuse from the media appratchiks is that the Russians wanted a spy in addition to Bout in order to set Whalen free, but the U.S., oopsie-doodles, doesn't have any.

At this point, nothing surprises me. I'm apathetic now. Outrage is just a waste of energy now.

Exactly. The age of outrage is over. Stock up on guns, ammo, and provisions. Be prepared to support your local community (or move to a local community that's worth supporting) and take steps to secure your life, liberty, and property from all enemies, both foreign and domestic.

I think balkanization is inevitable. It's just a matter of how peacefully it occurs.

I'm not so sure about the "well suited" part. Once they start dying by the fuckload at the hands of militiamen, gangbangers, and just plain old pissed-off rednecks; I suspect that the little brown men will have big brown stains on their government-issued boxer shorts.
