I think that any relationship, poly or otherwise, should be built on a foundation of mutual understanding and communication.
I'm assuming that, for his part, the relationship was real enough - considering that she was a rebound - but I'm definitely willing to bet that she didn't tell him that she learned her trade in Evelyn Pinchcock's fifth street bordello.
I'm betting that once they were married, all of this just kinda came out in a flood and, considering his past relationship...I wouldn't be surprised if he's still mainly with her due to the fact that he doesn't want to see all of the effort and time go to waste like it did before.

Basically the original wedding Photos were taken at Alison's folks place. For whatever reason they rushed to tie the knot in almost months after meeting but apparently Jake's family didn't know about this nuptial event. So they get to find out by Youtube video!
Not only that, but just for good measure, their newly-revealed daughter-in-law continues on discussing they need household appliances and please give generously. That just seems shitty, you lock Jakes family out from making one of the biggest decisions of his life or even being aware of what their boy is up to, but you ask them to help set you up too.
It's like from the get go she went to some length to cut him off from his old supports. I know some couples who do the polyamory lifestyle, when done correctly these relationships can be the absolute definition of a partnership for all parties involved.
Both parties have to be equal and comfortable with the lifestyle and the trust levels have to be totally through the roof. There's also the 'unspoken' rule of you can fall for other people, you can even love and care about them, but there is still some primacy and loyalty to your 'original' partner when you undertook the lifestyle.
Both parties have to also have the confidence of finding, sleeping or even sharing new partners and those partners are comfortable with the concept of sharing and caring.
The couples I know are perfectly happy with, and enjoy the certain freedom this lifestyle brings them, and while a little bohemian for my own tastes, they both turn out to support each other if the other gets into trouble or has an issue in life.
What poor ole Jake has is a serial cheating wife and rather than telling her to knock shit off because she's being a predatorial bitch he just quietly accepts the situation and is desperately trying to rationalize that his wife's lifestyle is somehow normal. It's not even normal by poly standards.

Wouldn't be surprised if some of Jake's friends did know about this relationship and told him that she was crazy or that he'd regret dating her. Might be why he never told his friends and he probably knew his family would be against this type of marriage. It's not easy to watch your son marry a girl only to watch said girl have crazy orgies on the side and seemingly neglect your son, her husband. Hell, maybe his family knew they were dating, said something, and because Allison didn't want to lose her cuckboy, she managed to pull him away from his family and hide the marriage.
The only poly relationship I've ever seen/heard work is one where both partners are poly and are extremely open to each other about how they feel. For example, they personally met every single person their partner was going to start dating/regularily fucking, and if that person gave them weird vibes or whatever, they talked about it. Another example is that they both felt comfortable enough to tell the other that they didn't like the person their loved one was dating because of X, Y, Z and then they'd deal with the jealousy or dislike. Being Poly doesn't mean the jealousy ends, it means you have an open communication to deal with jealousy when it comes around.
This relationship isn't poly, it's a man who wants to be monogamous watching his wife go out and get gang-banged and wine-and-dined by other men/women. While at the same time passively bitching on social media in hope that someone provides him with the "this is normal" lie.
