To me, it's them taking your stale turd and giving you a fresher turd for it, but I know some of you kiwis find joy in this game somehow.
However I don't believe they're doing this to be kind and generous. Me thinks those rumors of a soft-remake to SRIV a la SRTT are true and coming.

Does anyone know if re-elected does anything about the performance issues on PC?
I've started high seas SR4 game of the century edition this month and it's been awful
Steam ver randomly instacrashes to desktop all the time and GOG ver can't keep up 60 fps, but at least it doesn't crash

All performance and crashing issues are resolved with the re-elected version.

Are mods for the original version of SR4 usable in Re-elected?

What a joke its like this should be a patch for the base game but no goy shill out your shekels for the we really finished the game this time dlc
Fucking hell, release the patch as is and let the fans finish IdolNinja's work, or release the source code itself.
It's code for a 14 year old game made for a dead franchise, quit being a fucking jew with it. John Carmack released the DooM source code like a year post-release and DooM still sells today.
Holy fuck this I wont understand why game studios guard decades old source code for games they abandon then sue the fuck out of anyone that actually wants to try and fix it and god forbid have fun (looking at you EA)

Source code should be subject to copyright release like other shit

Re-Elected was first released only on consoles, then had a PC port released a few years ago exclusively via the Windows Store, and I heard it ran terribly compared to the original, probably because of UWP DRM.

It included all the original's DLC except for the TF2 weapon skins, which were a pre-order bonus on PC and have never been obtainable since or anywhere else. It also had a new DLC pack sold separately with clothes and a weapon based on Gat out of Hell.

There are almost no improvements over the original; some assets are slightly higher quality, and when you unlock the DLC, you get one notification saying you unlocked all the DLC instead of having to mash through notifications for each DLC pack.

The private Steam branch being used for the update is "fishlabs_dev". Fishlabs is the developer who made the very bad Switch port of the game, with many bugs not in the other versions. Doesn't bode well for this.

The game is not uwp on ms store. All uwp games us flip model to allow for borderless fullscreen to work properly(You should really only be using borderless fullscreen instead if fullscreen for dx11 and dx12),sr4 doesn't support borderless fullscreen therefore it's not uwp. performance is much better. I get dips to the mid 60s on og sr4 while the lowest i have ever gotten on sr4-relected was 115 on a rtx 3090 and 5700x. The improved performance and reduced crashing is due to the game being 64 bit unlike og sr4 which was 32 bit. This is also free for all owners of the game.

Offtopic, but can you elaborate on that? First time I read something along those lines
Borderless windowed mode gives you the performance of fullscreen mode and the convenience of windowed mode. Most newer dx11 games support it and all dx12 games use it."fullscreen" in dx12 is a lie, it is borderless fullscreen. Not all dx11 games support it but you can force it using third-party software. There is zero reason to use fullscreen over borderless windowed mode for 99% of scenarios. DX9 games have no support for borderless windowed mode.

Thing is, I used to have noticeable performance issues running games in borderless fullscreen (or any kind of windowed) rather than regular fullscreen, so nowadays I don't even bother giving borderless fullscreen a try if regular fullscreen isn't an option.

So uhh, you know how Volition did a "free upgrade" to Saints Row IV on Steam?
Well it's a fucking downgrade.
They force you to install EGS to play the game now.
On Steam.
And it breaks all the old saves.
Probably mods too.

My Steam copy is fucking dead now because of it. Great fucking job Volition, you fucked up the most basic thing possible.

EDIT: It seems you can still install the old version by choosing "sriv_legacy" in the "Betas" setting. So at least they had the fucking decency to let you go back to the old version.
EDIT 2: Apparently it's even worse and they've forced EGS onto the legacy version too. I've reported the game to Steam as being "Harmful" and explained that they don't clarify that EGS is used in the game now, hopefully something will be done about it.

Old saves still work,at least for me. Workshop mods work fine from what i've played. Now i would say that it's an improvement if it didn't make my cpu usage go to 100% on a 5700x. The game is causing "service host communication access" to use all your cpu. You can check by playing the game and using task manager. Thank you volition.

Might be a long shot, but add the following to your hosts file:
127.0.0.1 sr4.hydra.agoragames.com

If this fixed it, then you can officially call Volition the most retarded studio of all time because it means the game is still attempting to contact the defunct My Steelport service

Lol of course Volition would fuck this up.
Why wouldn't they fuck this up?

Didn't fix the issues that i'm having. the re-elected version is unplayable for me on steam. The game works fine for me on the ms store.

Sorry for double posting. Turns out, that depending on your computer settings and what you have plugged in, the game will query your microphone which causes the game and your system to become slowed down to a crawl. You can fix this by disabling voice chat in the in-game settings. They also removed the borderless windowed mode option. Not to big of an issue if you are willing to do some modding. You can use third-party tools to force borderless windowed mode and hdr, hdr in sr4 on an oled looks superb.

That should be a thing of the past. True fullscreen was Fullscreen Exclusive Mode which suspended/paged out everything graphical other than the DX fullscreen window for better performance(all GPU and VRAM resources went towards the game, it also freed up some RAM iirc). And I rarely play games and probably haven't messed around with it, but I'm pretty sure that unlike exclusive mode borderless doesn't change the resolution of the screen, only the resolution of the window that fills up the screen.
All of this was why alt-tabbing in a game could be sooo slow and chuggy with screen flickering as background windows returned from their sleep and had to be rendered/updated, sometimes it even crashed the game as windows was switching from exclusive context while trying to not upset the game by paging out some of its resources. With borderless fullscreen alt-tab is as fast as it's always been and you can be certain that shit won't crash. Most of the time.

Everything prior to Win7(I think?) would often benefit from true fullscreen, any windowed mode would be slower in graphic intensive games, from a little to a lot even when taking the reduced resolution into account. But with DX11 and 12 that started changing and it improved as they fixed up the desktop window manager so sharing GPU resources became less of an issue. I can have chrome with a lot of youtube tabs taking up 5-6gigs of VRAM and play Elden Ring in borderless. With my settings it also wants 5-7gigs of VRAM and I have a total of 8gigs but it's not that big of a deal anymore, I only lose a single digit amount of FPS. It's when running productivity tasks using OpenCL and lots VRAM it becomes a big deal, so for games the DWM is now doing a good job.
So there's no reason to not use borderless fullscreen in games that supports it at least on Win10 and Win11 but I also remember it working well on Win8.

edit: as far as I remember, that is.

because they paid for it in the past (or the company they bought did), so it's "theirs". the people in charge of that also usually have zero fucking clue what that even means.
outside of that it's a simple cost/benefit calculation - hire someone to go over the code to make sure there's nothing third-party in it and clean it up, have a lawyer go over it etc. is more expensive than just sitting on it and let it rot in a vault. if they even know if they own it in the first place, just look at the NOLF-debacle.

as for EA, what I can say is that they are pretty chill sometimes. renegade X got the ok, iirc the only condition was to never take money for it (which wouldn't fly with a lot of "modders" and "content creators" these days).
