Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

Ooooohhh noooo MK got Peter Weller voicing Robocop and Sly Stallone voicing Rambo, those slots belonged to Hydro the aquamarine ninja and Zebron the magic zebra. Thank god the rule 63 versions of Sub Zero and Goro made it in. But seriously I can't believe people are begging for more palette swaps, the character select probably already looks like a rainbow, which now that I think about it is appropriate.

"Whaat? You want Mortal Kombat characters instead of muh 80s Hollyweird goyslop? What are you, fags?"
The 80s are dead and they aren't coming back.

I think i made it four hours in before dropping it, haven't touched it ever again. The combat is so incredibly shitty and unfun that i couldn't force myself to play this game again even if my life depended on it. I liked what i saw in the first gameplay demo but seeing something played and playing yourself are vastly different experiences, obviously. I really should've known better. I give the game that it looks really, really pretty, but that is all.
I would of rather had it as a series of movies instead of the clunky padded shit we got. It is amazing to look at, but as you said it's all it has going for it. It even spoils later parts of the game with the notion you already played the original with spoiling Aerith's death.

Although there was a 1:1 remake that was setup for mobile but I don't know whatever happened with that.

I legitimately don't think I've played a Mortal Kombat game since MK3 on the Genesis.

KOTOR would have been better as just dialogue scenes with mild exploration elements. Outside of the writing all I remember about those games is garbage tier early 2000s turn based combat and trekking across endless, mostly empty maps.
Basically, yeah. As I think I said previously in this thread, it's one of the most generic RPGs ever made with a boring cast, bland writing, tedious quests, and brainless combat and it would've been forgotten within a year if not for the Star Wars license.

It's functional, but does literally nothing interesting whatsoever. It feels like a game that a middleware developer might create to show off an engine.

The series has been very touch and go. I really liked Deception, and that was the last one I had any real investment in. Of all the games, it had the most content. The Konquest mode in that is a game in and of itself. A lot of people rag on the PS2 era but I loved it. Although there's a lot of fucking brainfart new characters that were actually embarrassing.

Look no further than Tsu Hao.

The last trilogy had great production values and arguably the most comprehensive story mode of any fighting game, at least that I played. I'm just not crazy about it although the last one had a interesting story that at least decided to tread new ground instead of just digging up old villains with the same fucking plot again.

Getting sick of indie tributes/love letters/inspired by/spiritual successors

It was cute the first hundred times when the people who worked on them had some legit affection for the originals, but now it comes across more as a sales pitch. "MEMBER IT!?"
I think it depends on how good the "inspired" game is, and how done to death those particular games are.

Personally, I can't bear to gaze upon another 2D Zelda clone, but where's all the Star Fox inspired games? Enough Metroid wannabes, how about Game & Watch instead (one sort of similar game exists but it's not great)?

I am honestly surprised that there isnt more games like star fox that game had a unique look ngl but most importantly is it on consoles

The PS2 era also gave us some notable characters in the roster, couple of them were homeruns (Kenshi) a lot were sadly wasted potential (Onaga, Shujinko, Ashrah) and to be completely fair most were just too bland or forgettable to exist

New trilogy has the more developed story and characters, games are very decent, but when it comes to new characters really, only Erron Black and D'Vorah really stand out, was thinking about Kotal Khan too but the way he got buried in MK11 completely shut the man out. Dude is a fucking embarrasment

Kronika is also a very weak boss character in the same game series that gave us Goro, Shang Tsung and Shao Khan

Honestly i wouldn't mind "metriodvania" games as much if they took more from the Castlevania side of it but they all mimick just the Metriod part, also can't a dude just get game that are like Advance Wars or hell what about Arena Shooters (not boomer shooters that are level by level, i mean full on bot match games like UT99 or Quake 3)

There's like 2 kinds of Metroidvanias; traditional sci-fi/gothic varieties copying Metroid or Castlevania, and there's super cute/cartoony ones. So everything either ends up looking like one of the two aforementioned franchises, or cutesy/mystical artsy vomit like Ori or Hollow Knight.

Guacamelee was a breath of fresh air with a unique style, it really stands out from other indie Metrodvanias. Steam World Dig feels pretty different too. Maybe it's the strong theming, Mexican culture shit and Wild West stuff? I can't quite put my finger on it.

There's a game like Advance Wars called Wargroove, seems to be a straightforward clone that was well received but I haven't played it. Might be worth a look.

Prey (2017) is the true spiritual successor of System Shock and not Bioshock.Plus its a better game all the way through.
It looks like System Shock 1&2 are getting remakes. Hopefully they're as good as everyone says.
I actually really enjoyed TellTale Games Batman. It had the most interesting version of the Joker since Heath Ledger.
I hated it because it was just a poor retelling of The Long Halloween and they shit all over Thomas Wayne.

People that say there are more than 3 (and that's being generous) re-releases of Skyrim are fucking retards.

Nobody counts each console version of a game as a "re release" for anything else. Nobody counts DLC bundles as a separate release for any other game. But for some reason every meme addicted retard does this with Skyrim.

Feeling really sad about console fags. Most AAA console games are basically the same game. Holistically, there's no difference between God of War, Uncharted, TLOU and Tomb Raider.

There's one scripted event after another, combat that is scripted and super dull, all revolving around the same principles. Same loop in the same linear levels, and I don't mind if the levels are linear, but there seems to be just 1 way to approach each situation and it's either run and gun or platforming. It's all so streamlined so that your average gamer doesn't need to revise their strategy and think about what they are about to do...

Console platformers are no different either. A bit of light platforming with double jump/tight jumps, kill some enemies with what abilities you got, repeat. There's no solving levels and figuring out puzzles unless it's a switch you need to press or a box you need to move. It's pretty straight-forward, linear and not much replay value. You play them once, then you play them again in the same order, and maybe go a bit out of the way to find a secret collectible.

Console shooters get a lot of flak, but most games suffer from the same issues.

I consider its re-releases by generation. PC counts as one for me. PSVR counts as a re-release. To me, the Anniversary edition does not count.
