I've heard from some analysts that air defense systems are meant to be paired with compatible systems, like Ukraine right now has S-300, BUKs, etc, they all compliment each other and form a comprehensive layered system that was designed to communicate with each other.

But you are correct, they operate their air defense in layers. Not as big a reliance on AAA anymore but the Russians have a far better Anti-Air setup than the West does. Then again, if the Luftwaffe had done the same amount of tactical missions on the West as it did the Soviets, we'd likely see similar doctrine.

Maybe Russia and Ukraine are, but neither has the kind of toys the US military gets to play with. I doubt the cheap retail drones would be able to fly in a fight with the US and its full suite of electronic warfare capability.

That equipment is extremely expensive and hard to replace, so you just overwhelm it with cheap trash. Both the US and Russia have DEWs, there's a reason nobody is using them. It would be an expensive waste of shiny tech and would be a hit to morale when they're destroyed without doing much.

Saudi Arabia does, and have been using US supplied air defense equipment in their war against Yemen.

In 2018, the Houthis fired seven allegedly Iranian made missiles at Riyadh. Saudi Arabia used US supplied MIM-104 Patriot missiles in an attempt to intercept them. This was the result:

Incidentally, I've seen some of this video footage reuploaded with the audio removed and the posters claiming that it's a Russian S-300 failing in this current war, in spite of the fact that this video is four years old.

In 2019, the Houthis used Iranian made suicide drones to attack Saudi oil infrastructure in Abqaiq and Khurais, shutting down 50% of Saudi Arabia's oil output. The location was protected by both American Patriot systems and Swiss Skyguard systems. Both failed to intercept the incoming drones.

For those who don't know, the Russian Geran-2 suicide drone is the Iranian Shahed-136 drone, meaning that the Russians are fielding equipment that has a proven track record of bypassing US made air defense equipment. Also for reference, a Geran-2 has an estimated cost of $10,000 - $50,000. An MIM-104 Patriot interceptor costs between $1 million - $6 million depending on the version, and at least two are usually fired per hostile target.

Since the Geran-2 is apparently autonomous, I'm not sure what electronic warfare equipment could be used against them after they've been launched, so that's unlikely to make any difference. Maybe if Russia had to resort to using remote controlled quadcopters, US supplied ECM stuff would matter. But so long as Russia can maintain its supply of Geran-2s, and possibly develop newer autonomous drones, I don't see EW equipment solving this problem.
