I really don't either. Especially since she likes both components in different things (Rice a Roni, canned beans in her Mexican soups). So that's not the problem. It's like she doesn't like being told that her current diet is completely unsustainable, both nutritionally and financially. Not to mention rice and beans are such common foods for a multitude of reasons- they're cheap (at least forms of them are), but they're also tasty in so many things, comforting, filling. I'd also much rather take rice and beans over a lot of famine food I've heard about. Mud cookies ain't like Mississippi mud pie, no ma'am. I also recently freaked out my Nordic fiancee by talking about how I wanted to make peppermint bark candy, because bread made from tree bark flour is a thing people ate during harsh famines in that region. She was so confused why I'd want to degrade myself like that, especially since we still have plenty of food.

That's more the impression I got, too. She's very much a brand whore. The few times she does eat things like rice or beans it's hella overpriced brand names, and in super small containers at that.
