I remember Alfie’s case being on the news, though truthfully I didn’t follow it as closely. Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Alfie technically not dead in the same sense that Archie was? Iirc he lived a week or so after removal of life support. Kid wasn’t going to make it the long run, but he wasn’t to the point of literally rotting.

He had a degenerative brain disease which resulted in a large percentage of his brain being replaced by fluid. It could only get worse.
He ended up fully ventilated and died 5 days after his ventilation was withdrawn. His brain stem must have functioned to a certain extent but he was really not in a better situation than Archie.
I didn’t follow the case either but it was mental. Some of his ‘Army’ were bat shit crazy. Surpassing HD’s Army by a long way.
Did Archie have a teacher he could trust, or a responsible adult in his life? Possibly not.

Archie was having 1 to 1 input from a learning support assistant at secondary school. What their relationship was like, ?.

AE only "survived" that long because his father kept giving him mouth to mouth, kid was dead by then. Mail link but confirmed elsewhere too around the time.

He survived for five days off of life support according to various sources. The linked Mail article states that his father gave him mouth to mouth for ten minutes on the day of his death, not prior, very tragic all around. The kid was obviously a hopeless case without severe medical intervention, and even then it was just delaying the inevitable, but personally it’s more of a grey area than with Archie, who’s body had long given up the ghost.

From earlier in this thread also clicky link. At work can't go hunting for more sources now.

No worries, I’ll look into it.

As I’ve said, I’d have to read up on the case more, but cases like Alfie’s are unique in the fact that it’s such a rare condition that we still know so little about, which make it a little more difficult to navigate than a tentatively animated corpse situation like Archie or Jahi. One of those grey areas I mentioned earlier. If it were my kid I’d accept the inevitable, (death is a release from suffering, and not something to be frightened of if you’re actually religious) but I get why some wouldn’t want to if you thought there was some sliver of hope. Alfie’s folks seemed like genuine loving parents as compared to Hollie. I suppose my main issue, after a cursory glance, is not being allowed to remove Alfie and take him elsewhere. If the NHS chooses to remove life support, he’s still kicking, and the Italians are willing to take him, why not? Is it a fools errand? Will it probably do him more harm than good? Absolutely, but ultimately that decision should be made by his parents if they have the capability and funds. I agree with the system’s right to say ‘we can’t help you’, but it’s somewhat dubious to say ‘we can’t help you, and are actively preventing you from going anywhere else’. The argument can be made that it’s in the child’s best interest, but most courts and veteran doctors can tell a desperate parent from a Mama Nails. At least…I’d like to hope. Not going to touch on the ‘army’ of folks though, rabid do gooders often accomplish nothing but make life hell on hospital staff.

Anywho, I’m sperging and getting off topic. Shit’s tragic and it’s hard to put yourself in that position as a parent. At least Alfie’s parents have given him dignity in death.

There’s really no comparing the cases. Alfie was alive. He was suffering from a complex neurodegenerative disorder (GABA transaminase deficiency) that meant he couldn’t live without being on a machine. He survived 5 days without the support of a breathing tube. Poor Archie was dead.
Alfie, in theory, could have ‘lived’ for a long time if provided with the constant support but the NHS rightly saw no point. There was likely to be only suffering and no quality of life. The Italians have special hospitals for long term cases like this and they were also offering very spurious claims of a ‘cure’ for Alfie’s disease. It doesn’t exist, but technically Alfie could have had some sort of future in Italy. Archie was dead.

How is lying in a vegetative state, fully
ventilated, with only the possibility of deterioration, some sort of future?
If religious ‘pro-life’, usually American based, loonies didn’t meddle in this shit then none of these no hope cases would get as far as the ridiculous stages they achieve.
It was horrendous for the boy, the other patients and staff at the hospital (getting death threats, being publicly vilified, you name it) and really prolonged the inevitable for the parents too. British tax payers don’t want to pay for this shit.
He probably would not have survived a horrendously expensive flight to Italy either.

No. I do agree with you. I didn’t mean to imply that I thought Alfie was done out in any way. I just meant to highlight the difference between the cases and how it shows Holly grasping at straws by even trying to compare their situations. They were different cases entirely but Holly wanted to ride the coat-tails of Alfie’s story which had been such a huge, emotive media storm.

Where are the fucking boundaries? Why is she allowing Archie to go into the store front like that. Cos it’s a ‘laff lol’. Fuck the shop staff and appropriate behaviour..
Are we actually shocked? All we've seen so far is far away from good responsible parenting no matter how she is trying to come across as a exemplary mother.

There’s a photo of him crammed up inside an ATM somewhere in this thread. Ain’t he precious.
NO. If I was wanting to use that ATM and had that little sod obstructing my way, I'd be incensed and looking for a mother figure to shout at.

@TractorGirl put it best: "Those types of bogan mums shit me. "Oh look how cute my kid is" when he's being a feral little cunt in public.

Of course he’s shirtless, why wouldn’t he be in public?! What’s the point of going out with a shirt on?

Why wear a shirt and hide the beginnings of an epic 5yo's abdominal muscles/sixpack?
