Modern Web Woes - I'm mad at the internet

Is it possible to find unlisted videos attached to an account through the API?
I am not aware that it can be done, however, you have online databases like: https://unlistedvideos.com/ that can give you results.

A website like this seems to function in 2 ways (as far as I know), but I'm skeptical on the 2nd one:
  • The owner unlists a video, then someone with access to its URL submits it to this website, which stores it so that anyone can find it later on (they have strict rules for submission).
  • The owner unlists a video but adds it to a public playlist. Now I'm not sure if this website checks all of the user's playlists and then determines which of the videos within are unlisted, but in the end this is only possible because their links are exposed.

There's also an interesting thing going on with Youtube's playlists, private and country restricted videos (I think this is how it works so bear with me, I might be wrong).

So normally, you shouldn't be able to search or see a video that is restricted in your country/via your IP, and even further, if a playlist only contains those type of videos (country restricted (to you) + private (optionally)), you won't even see the playlist, it's simply not there.

This is an example with an old DSP's channel: if you go there, you'll (probably) only see 1 that is available to anyone:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCf07Sn6WFGp2e47roPSMkng/playlists
Kingofhate.png

However, he has more.
The reason why you can't see more is because those "invisible playlists" are entirely comprised of videos only available to Somaliland, Kosovo and N. Cyprus.

But by using the API you can request them, see this one (all items are hidden or unavailable):
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2029B542F0D808D3
https://archive.ph/4FmEA

And then, by requesting the videos within the list (one of them as an example):

As you can see, if you don't have the right IP and didn't use the API, you'd assume that "THEKINGOFHATEHD" has no videos, but that's not the case.

I was having trouble with this, so I made a post in the DSP subforum for anyone that has easier access than me, so that you may download any potentially interesting videos, then post here in KF for archival purposes.

Google search is rolling out infinity scroll
There's no endless scrolling when one disables JavaScript. At least for now.

Also seems when one searches for or watches a "sensitive topic" on YT, there's an annoying blue banner with info from a "trusted source" (read: Wikipedia or Google) on it.

for example a search for "great reset" may result in this:
Context

Great Reset
Wikipedia
The Great Reset Initiative is an economic recovery plan drawn up by the World Economic Forum in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The project was launched in June 2020, with a video featuring the then Prince of Wales Charles released to mark its launch.

and for "covid 19" one may get this:
COVID-19
Get the latest information from the CDC about COVID-19.

That's been there for a while. I get told about conspiracy theorists whenever I search for music by "world order".

YouTube search is basically useless at this point. Half the results are a push feed from trending.

oh so NOW the announcement actually happened? very cool of our "trusted sources"

Weren't they claiming that believing "The Great Reset" was a "conspiracy theory" before?

BTW Wikipedia was unreliable before 2020, but now it's even more unreliable - on "sensitive topics" at least or especially.
"In this day and age, the difference between a conspiracy theory and a well accepted fact is 6 months"

I hope whoever at valve thinks all these steam updates are a good thing gets ripped apart by bullsquids and turned into a poison headcrab zombie. Steam goes through periods of being really great and then periods of trying to force my computer to attempt to self immolate on idle with nothing running and these faggots are asking for a lawsuit when they actually do set someone's computer on fire because of it one day in the name of "Allocating disk space".

SteamVR is the only program I've ever used that will consistently try to crash my computer and it functions the same as a virus as it will CONSTANTLY try to reinstall itself after every update with or without your permission. Its also a lie that you need both the oculus app AND steamVR to run some games in VR. SteamVR will also give you a significant performance hit of -30-50 fps for no real reason even on the lowest graphic settings. But when its only the oculus app, its an easy 60+ fps for half life alyx. Its also the only program that will make the OS itself freeze at random. So good luck restarting and trying to run steam again, because it will fight you to the bitter end even after you reinstall steam or format your storage device.

It even comes pre-installed with unreal engine and is always on even if you don't have it on to your steam install and set the plugin to be disabled by default in the engine settings.

I've repeatedly run into a site that seems SEOd to hell and back AND it's worse than pajeet nonsense. It's called websitebuilderinsider.com
Right now I was looking for cursive/hand written fonts and that dreck came up.

Q: What Are the Cursive Fonts in Photoshop?
A: half a page of gibberish about what a cursive font can be, plus a pro-tip(they can be hard to read). Not a single name of a cursive font.
Conclusion: Cursive fonts are a typeface where the letters are joined together in a flowing manner that resembles handwriting.

Normally I would think "AI" but they're usually not this useless.

Yep, same here. They've been a problem on ddg for a while, but now they're starting to infest google as well, which was usually more reliable for tech-related searches. I'm also now constantly waylaid by bountysource, which is just a link farm to various github/lab issue threads, but somehow manages to appear above those threads in the search results.

I'm abusing the hell out of Chat GPT for tech searches while it's free and (relatively) ungimped. It's like having Google circa 2009 back again.

I know it's only a matter of time before the corpus starts degrading and it starts spewing out pajeet-tier answers.

Does anyone else think IMDb fucking sucks for what it is? Inaccurate information, no sources or references for anything, hideous design which is difficult to read, and loads of shit especially TV stuff is not on there at all! Some of the user reviews are hilarious though, and I understand the message boards were a bit of a lolcow farm before they got taken down

I really miss the days when Google wouldn't tell me I can't retrieve one of my burner email accounts because I didn't provide them with "enough info" to retrieve it, AKA: give them my phone number, my address, a blood sample, etc. (:_(

The version of Firefox I use is somewhat behind, so when I got the newest one, I've noticed problems.

No more tabs looking like tabs, now they're these button bar things.

Also no option to "View Image" anymore. Now one has to copy the image URL and paste and go to it.

You don't understand, we did extensive UX research by reading the telemetry logs from people too retarded to disable telemetry, and none of them use this feature!

>it's webp
At least GIMP supports WEBP now, but that format sucks. Especially when the URL says it's not WEBP.

Also that Fandom site is getting worse. Sometimes it doesn't even work right on a version of Firefox that's just a year or 2 behind. Like images don't show up and clicking on a thumbnail just reopens the article, or that wide display button doesn't work. Yet sites from the late '90s could display a gallery of thumbnails and had content not squished in. What kind of hipster BS JS does it use where only the very latest browser can display it?

thanks!

FF has been removing more and more user control, moving more and more browser options to cryptic "advanced preferences" in Current Year. With Firefox 1, the user could disable JS and caching in the preferences. Not anymore with newer FF, at least with caching.

Doing that sometimes opens the thumbnail of the image in a new tab instead of the original.
Do you have an example? The "Open Image in New Tab" opens the link to whatever image is being rendered on the page. So, if the link to the thumbnail is present, then you'll get the thumbnail.
