People you used to watch, before they were fags (or you stopped being one) - A fall from grace

SuperMega I used to watch occasionally and enjoyed their stuff, but then they started acting like almost ever single internet celebrity in California and I had to bow out.
I enjoyed their extremely brief time on OneyPlays, but their personal content fell off pretty hard and I eventually just unsubbed. Game Grumps goes without saying, it looks like a fucking variety channel these days. A bad one.

Nerdcubed/Nerd3 back in the early 10s. Made decent edited videos of him playing random games while goofing around and giving a general opinion on it at the end if you should check it out, along with proper full playthroughs and permadeath challenges in some games, etc. Eventually the ego on him must have gotten the better of him as he started shoving in random political bullshit before it was popular to do so, along with constant fedora tipping in the most pompous, faggy way. He also couldn't take criticism worth a shit, and would explode on fans at any sort of critique, even constructive ones, he would constantly get into slapfights on his own subreddit and Twitter over dumb shit. I quit watching around the time South Park: The Stick of Truth came out and he got some day 1 game breaking bug that messed his save up one hour in. He quickly made a video ranting about how awful this was and uploaded it, which by then was patched iirc and his fanbase told him to chill out since the game just came out, to which he got super assmad and called them all idiots on Twitter. This, along with previous retardation made me drop him, I checked up on him and he surprisingly brings in over 25k USD on his Patreon a month, but he apparently has employees he pays for some game he's working on so I wonder how long it'll be before he's broke, unless he invested smartly when times were good.
Nerd3 is the worst guest Ashens/Barshens ever had, that's all I have to say about him.

It sucks that Ashens does the advent calendar with him every year, rather than someone fun like Barry or Eli or whomever else.

Achievement Hunter/Rooster Teeth - Gave post-Burnie RvB a few seasons, but couldn't do it. AH had some fun stuff after Ray left. It was definitely weaker but not terrible. Then Fiona joined and things went downhill.

Channel Awesome - I look back and wonder how I enjoyed anything there. Some of Spoony's old videos still hold up but we all know what happened to him.

Jim Sterling - Liked his Escapist works, but after he left it became clear he needed a guiding hand.

Used to watch Some Ordinary Gamers back when he covered creepypastas and the dark web. His readings of trollpastas were some of my favorite videos, especially the ones with his friends. I stopped watching him around the time he started covering drama. I always wonder what happened between his friends, because he never talks about them after the trollpasta era.

Most of the early youtubers were the most pathetic ones.
The unstoppable march of time and it's effects on the people who used to be hot shit online is insane to me. I think it's even sadder seeing people who should've realistically moved on a long time ago juxtaposed with people who did. There's this air of infallibility with the people who got off the ride when they were close to the peak - because they never stuck around long enough to make an ass of themselves when the going got tough. The guys who got their money while they could and then ran for the hills with it occupy the same space in my brain as celebrities who died before they got old and bitter enough to become political pundits and pedophiles. A few of the people I used to watch were:

  • Stupid Mario Brothers - The Kings of the Era of "what if video games were in real life". I used to watch these guys all the time but I cannot tell you any of the plot or storylines nowadays. Mumkey Jones made a video talking about them a while back and that jogged my memory of them - they are not doing too well nowadays. Stopped watching because that stuff just isn't interesting to anyone over the age of 13.

  • Mumkey Jones - I only watched him for the Elliot Rodgers videos, when he stopped making those and I realized he wasn't going to make any more of them I stopped watching.

  • Night Mind - back in 2015 I got really into ARGs and horror webseries', and NM made videos talking about prominent and unknown stuff that you could keep on in the background as noise. I stopped watching after he damn near singlehandedly tanked a little mini-community by not adequately disclosing that he was sponsored by some app, doing some weirdo stuff when he was around another person in that circle (not full on sex pest stuff but I think it was grabbing his thigh during a livestream repeatedly), and his furry shenanigans. I also made the mistake of checking his twitter somewhere along the way and found out that he was a massive faggot about politics.

  • Nyx Fears - This is the guy who's thigh was getting grabbed by NM. He used to talk about horror movies and he had generally acceptable takes (when I was a teenager). Anyways, I stopped watching him when he trooned out. He made a short film where the main character was a tranny who joined a satanic cult to feel accepted - he wore a dress to the first showing of it. Talk about red flags.

  • Jim Sterling - I used to watch him to laugh at bad Steam Greenlight games, stopped watching when Greenlight was discontinued - only recently (in the last year) started following his antics in the background.

  • Two Atheists Watch - during my own "Edgy Teenage Atheist Phase" my brother (who's still an edgy atheist in his mid 20's) introduced me to this channel. The premise is that two fat atheists watch and react to Christian media - in hindsight it's funny thinking about two fat guys (one with fucked up teeth) nitpicking old tapes made for children with the occasional Chick Tract reading thrown in. Looked them up a while back, they're still making stuff - but the one with the fucked up teeth trooned out. It would be funny if I didn't know how that was gonna end.

Super Eyepatch Wolf started insulting their audience.
That's a perfect candidate for this thread. I tried getting into him a little too late, and just found him to be an insufferable douchebag, though his vids on Yakuza and Shenmue III were second to none. So I guess he's one of those guys who just sucks, but every now and then, he lays a golden egg.

It is straight fucked that he doesn't do those calendars with anyone from Barshens, as absolutely every last person on that show is at least 10x better than Nerdcubed. Even Paul Gannon's woke druggie ass knows how to turn off the sped switch for a moment. And what happened to Eli Silverman? That guy was hilarious.

The Amazing Atheist. I really liked his stances on things like politics and atheism, as well as taking on SJWs and the woke crowd. However, he really lost a lot of respect in my view when he started advocating for an official "information board" of experts that would take down inaccurate information...and this was coming from a guy who used to be an ardent free speech absolutist. I understand the noble intent behind wanting to take down inaccurate information or stupid shit, but there is no way you can do so without massive collateral damage, as everybody has their own biases.

The final nail in the coffin for what turned me off from the Amazing Atheist, is that he has gone quasi-woke as of around four years ago, and has started going back on his previous stances on being against SJWs as he now thinks that by being an anti-SJW, you are automatically a member of the alt-right. He rarely posts videos now on his main channel, and when he does, it is usually some irrelevant nonsense.

Eli and Paul do a podcast called Cheapshow. I haven't followed it, but it's been going for 4 years and 300+ episodes, so it probably does well enough to keep going.
That said the first thing I saw when I checked their twitter was a tweet bitching about Clarkson making a Game of Thrones joke regarding Meghan Markle in an article, because "he's not a joker, he's harmful"

Bunch of wanks.

Like, I know Br*tain is a shithole that criminalizes jokes, so anyone trying to be "a comedian" has to disavow any actual comedy or get not just cancelled, but maybe thrown in jail.
But come on, man, where's your balls.

Early kumite with Tonkasaw. He sat back larping as a laconic don't give a fuck badass with Failure as his manservant and just let various spergs and loonies tear each other apart. Seems a long time ago now...

I've liked John Wolfe's content for a long time. Always seemed like a genuine guy who covered lesser-known games without the obnoxiousness of other YT Let's Players. In recent years he's become really jaded and constantly flames back at his fans before tweeting about it. A common trend lately has been cross-dressing in charity streams. On one hand it's for charity, and I can get behind someone making themselves look bad for charity. He used to just shave his beard and no one had a problem with it. Lately though this sort of thing has become a trend and people really don't seem to be into it. Instead of just taking the hint and stopping though he seems indignant and I'm worried about the implications. Making entire videos over losing a relatively small number of subscribers and calling it a "controversy" seems really dramatic and attention-whorish too.

P.s. despite what the screenshot says I haven't actually watched his follow-up video. Cautiously optimistic that it's not as self-righteous as it seems.

(Update: he doubled down and his next charity stream will be for Trans Lifeline)

Talking Simpsons - I came across this one as it is a spin off of another podcast I listen to called Retronauts. Retronauts is mostly about old vidya game content. The hosts are clearly hardcore leftoids but they keep it to a minimum on Retronauts so it doesn't bother me. Talking Simpsons is a bit too much however. These guys will go on for minutes at a time about current politics even when they have nothing to do with the episode they are discussing. Again I'm fine with listening to lefty content, it doesn't bother me. Though I came to listen to a discussion on a Simpsons episode, not some weird rant on universal healthcare. Luckily I found Four Finger Discount which is a much better Simpsons podcast.
Retronauts is starting to get that way for me. Jeremy Parish, Bob Mackey and some of the other early retronauters like Jose Otero are all great to listen too but once Stuart Gipp and Nadia Oxford start showing the whole podcast start going to shit.

F. D. Signifier/Signifire. He was making content about media before deciding to talk about politics to shoot shots from afar and straw man people.

I mentioned Just Some Guy, no? For obvious reasons.

Hunter Avellone. Decided to turn leftist and tout leftist talking points to the point where it seemed like he was grifting the right the whole time.

Benn Jordan/The Flashbulb. He was a cool musician, but then started making videos about how women are better at making music than men and shitting on men, and saying that Indiana is responsible for the gun violence in Chicago despite Lori Lightfoot and interstate gun laws of Chicago.

NateTalksToYou. Decided to make a rapid swing left, and is also pumping out very little content.

TheNeedleDrop was a big one for me and I found a lot of good music through Anthony's reviews. Each day that passes, though, I find him more self-righteous and condescending. He can't shut up about his political views long enough to get through a single video and lately has been (in my opinion) inflating the scores of albums made by minorities/lefties for reasons completely beyond their music.

Game Grumps were some of the first LPers I got into on YouTube. Nowdays I watch Oney instead because Danny is a predatory deviant (imo) and Arin's humor hasn't improved since 2015.

PenguinZ/Critical/Charlie is just super lazy with his content. The tipping point for me was when he made a tier list for horrible people where he considered literal serial killers and run-of-the-mill racists to be comparable. Because woke.

CallmeCarson had some funny videos about weird YouTube shit. I felt super bad for him when he got cheated on by his girlfriend and friend, but lost all sympathy when he was outed for sextng teenage girls.

Super Eyepatch Wolf: I remember him whining about how Yuri on Ice wasn’t gay enough for all the praise it got. I never watched it (never will), but it sounded like he expected them to start butt fucking in the rink or something. Most animes don’t go all out showing their romances, even when they’re confirmed, so who cares?
It was such a weird complaint that gave a glimpse into where his mind was, and where it’d go. Sure enough, he just became the usual ‘white nerd with a beard NPC’ and I’m just sick and tired of that.

Just Some Guy: He lost his fucking mind when his audience said pedophiles suck and that was already the death strike for me. However, he then made a blatantly uninformed Punisher video right after, and that made me question all his previous content (for things I didn’t know as well as comics/manga) too.

Cosmonaut (or whatever his name is): I was subscribed for two seconds like a year or two ago. Pretentious filmbro nonsense ensued. Learned quick I shouldn’t have done that, and corrected my mistake.

Tim Pool: enough said.

Three words: #ChangeTheChannel.

Look, I have a fair amount of YouTubers I stop watching when they turn into faggots. But #ChangeTheChannel...
I didn't realise they became a Social Justice Warrior clique until summer/fall 2019 when it was too late, and then they and their followers began to indoctrinate me with each tweet. I was 19, autistic, retarded... When you're those things, you're more vulnerable to the brainwashing they pull, and they almost convinced me that woke culture was a good thing.
Needless to say, once a guy named Cinematic Venom released a long documentary about how awful they became and how badly they treated him in particular, I finally had carte-blanche to leave and unfollow a good deal of them, especially Linkara and Tony Goldmark, the latter of whom is a posterchild for the insanity #ChangeTheChannel spews forth (main exception being Cyborcat, she's cool IMO).
And then George Floyd happened, and Cinematic Venom became just as much of a woke nutter.
It's like anyone who calls out Channel Awesome is doomed to become a wokescold.

EDIT: [Oh, and this is a smaller thread of people who stopped watching YouTubers, meaning I won't call out someone for believing and pushing the ProJared lies and I won't get called a nigger by some edgy nutter who usually makes up the larger threads back then. Thank god.]

Just Some Guy: Went insane because his audience said pedophiles and groomers are evil. Went on a big cope and attacked Dave Rubin because he is a gay conservative and how dare gay people be conservative when most conservatives tend to be Christian and not really be accepting of gays. Also went and attacked Blaire White because she is a conservative who happens to be transgender. Got ripped apart on Twitter. All around ignorant dumbass who probably has a mass of skeletons in his closet.

The Fandom Menace: Used to listen to these guys while working my shifts at work. Enjoyed them dunking on pop culture, Disney and wokeness. However, that all ended when Mauler decided to attack and try to false flag and deplatform a YouTuber named Synthetic Man over his God of War review. This lead to people finding out that Mauler's cohost Rags grooms minors on his Discord and that Jay Exci also supports trannies grooming and pink pilling male minors. When people tried to bring this up to the more popular members of the Fandom Menace who Mauler streams with they ignored all comments and super chats in a attempt to cover up the crimes and degeneracy of the EFap crew. Going to show that the Fandom Menace is no better than the SJW's they mock.

Game Grumps: Used to enjoy these guys in the past but Arin proved to be a back stabbing piece of shit with what he did to Jon. Guess he cared more about having clout with pedophiles in Hollywood than defending a friend he knew for years.
