Chinese Communist Party Megathread - Cold War 2: Electric Boogaloo

Shitloads of jobs amount to standing around in a uniform--baoan is part private security, part old man welfare.

That was part of the communist strategy to give everyone a job. I've seen someone who's job it was to pass the ticket from an automatic barrier in a parking structure to the driver. The one you can just roll down the window and take yourself because that's how those things are designed.

Old man welfare is bang on the money.

China to deactivate national Covid tracking app

Archive
China has announced it will deactivate a phone app that has tracked people's movements during the pandemic.

The national app, which has been operational for three years, will go offline at the end of Monday.
It is the latest policy change that signals Beijing is abandoning its controversial zero-Covid strategy.
The move is highly symbolic but will not have a huge impact on people's daily lives because of the local apps still in use in cities across China.

The state-run Communications Itinerary Card app, which uses phone signals to track whether someone has travelled to an area considered to be high-risk, was seen as a central part of China's zero-Covid policy.
People were required to enter phone numbers in the app in order to produce a green arrow indicating they were able to travel between provinces and enter events.

Now travel between provinces has been eased with the removal of Covid-prevention restrictions, the national app has been deemed to be obsolete by officials.

Many social media users in China have welcomed the app's retirement.
But it is only one of several tracking apps that have governed everyday life in China, with many people still using scanning systems run by their city or province to access local amenities and public buildings.

The policy change is symbolic for a nation which is turning away from its controversial zero-Covid strategy following widespread protests in several cities.

Recent unrest was triggered by a fire in a high-rise block in the western Xinjiang region that killed 10 people in November, with long-running restrictions blamed for hampering the rescue effort.

Following policy changes, people with Covid can now isolate at home rather than in state facilities, and there has been a broad relaxation of mass testing.

China is now experiencing a surge in Covid cases, with authorities in Beijing saying more than 22,000 patients had visited hospitals across the city on Sunday - 16 times the number a week earlier.

China reported 8,626 domestic cases on Sunday, but with testing no longer widespread the numbers are believed to be much higher.

Despite its loosening of measures, China is still regarded as having some of the most hard-line Covid restrictions in the world.

Pretty interesting documentary about a police station outside Guangzhou Railway station circa 2010, managing the perennial problems of moving millions of people through one train station every January/February. Not all that much has changed really.

It'd be interesting to hear you guys' thoughts.

Re: the covid surge, in Shanghai there's been a serious shortage of NSAIDs and anti-flu medication, pharmacies have been stocking and planning on an indefinite "we don't have to serve anyone" model due to the "if you have a fever you're going to the covid trailer park" policy. There seems to be a flu going around alongside the covid surge. Guess it was inevitable that there'd be a problem, just didn't think it'd be so immediate.

I guess their healthcare system really was a few thousand fever patients above average from 'collapsing.'

That was most of the world like for instance Italy was fucked so bad in February 2020 because their healthcare system had been an absolute mess for years. However, this isn't common knowledge among many people, even people who live in those countries (ever met all the internet Canucks and Eurofags praising those country's healthcare systems?), so it was all successfully blamed on the virus. No doubt people like former Italian Minister of Health Roberto Speranza (ironic surname lol) who demanded lockdowns using data they gained via their CCP connections are thrilled that was the result.

Love that these videos always resemble some sort of feudal battle between opposing peasant factions with the ad hoc melee weapons and desolate surroundings. Half expect a wandering samurai to show up and start to play the factions against each other.

it was also the spike itself. any system can be overwhelmed, and even the best healthcare won't "prepare" for years for a worst case that might never come. that would be like paying for meteor insurance in case one blows up your house.

and even if they do calculate in some buffer (which I assume they don't, most social/health systems have been budget-slashed for years) it still requires them to react fast enough, and appropriately. good luck with that.

>Chinese soyjacks are wearing n95 masks to stifle their cries of fear
>Indian chads with their faces uncovered so their war cries can be heard from as far away as possible

Good thing the Chinese are making sure they don't get the coof during their fucking military engagements

This whole video looks like what happens when you reach the end of a game of Civilization and neither side bothered to research military tech.

Everything about this decade is turning out shit.

"Hospitals completely overwhelmed!" It's almost like a bunch of people were getting no medical treatment, while spending weeks at a time locked in their homes.

Aren't the hospitals mostly full of people in there for like, cold treatments though? Chinks will get a cold, instead of just taking some medicine at home they'll go to the hospital, and get it through IV.
I also would suspect a lot of the deaths at home are starvation due to welding or suicide. Could be wrong obviously, but its not covid doing it.
