Nintendo Switch (Currently Plagued) - Here we shit post about the new Nintendo console, The Switch

I don't know about PS1 sticks but N64 sticks were mega garbage and the most popular N64 controller mod out there is getting them replaced.
PS1 Dualshock sticks feel exactly the same as PS3's sticks.

Never had any issues with mine but I am also not retarded. Plus, octagonal gates immediately make N64 analogs better than all modern analogs.
Gamecube still had octagonal gating, but with solid sticks, making them my favorite.

Has @Marissa Moira updated their Switch Pro release date yet? If you predict it every year for a decade and it finally happens on year 12, you still get to say you were right.
I'm still saying by the end of 2023 we'll either hear something or they'll have a release date.

There's been job listings posted months ago that were for next gen title development for Nintendo. So there's dev kits out there somewhere already. But there's also no guarantee that the next system is going to function like the switch either, nintendo said they remain non-committed to the design philosophy and may want to try something else.

There is always a next gen system in development. The next Playstation and Xbox are being blue-skied right this second. My opinion is that a Pro was considered but supply-chain shortages got in the way. Do you think that's going away? Because if Nintendo can't get cost of production low enough they won't release whatever is being developed.

edit: I did a ~deep dive~ aka search to see MM's posts on the subject over-time and he appears to have switched from "late 2021" to "2022 with Zelda and Bayo 3 as launch titles" to "whenever Zelda comes out". Which, honestly, sounds like a fine reaction to economic events to me. My only difference is I think that Zelda can come out before it, and run gimped in the same way that Bayo and Pokemon do. And then, if economics permit, they can release a system capable of running them properly.

Yes there always is development happening for new systems, but these are positions that pop up when something is much further along in development and has functioning hardware of some sort.

The supply chain stuff is mostly affecting the current switch though, we don't really have specifics on what the next system is using for hardware. The PS5 for example suffered supply shortages when the switch didn't have any at the time because the PS5 used different components and those specific components were in short supply. The next gen switch could be entirely different hardware that's not constrained by shortages. Nintendo isn't confirming that their next gen system is going to be backwards compatible either which leans further into it being all new components.

If its entirely new hardware its hardly a Pro, then. And I doubt we'll be getting a full-blown new generation in the next year.

I always assumed a Pro model would be new hardware especially after the Nvidia leaks which had stuff that a normal switch would not be able to do. Like the Super Nintendo was not a souped up NES, it was all new hardware and the word Super was just a branding thing, I figured the word Pro would be used in the same way.

The system may have a whole new name entirely, without an official announcement people just use assumed or agreed upon temporary names. And the switch has been out for around 6 or so years, that's usually time when new hardware gets announced. Sales have slowed down for it which means it's reached it's saturation point, what happened with the PS3/360/Wii generation was that hardware sales slowed across the board so much (this was because all 3 systems were out for so long that they all reached saturation) that people thought consoles were on their way out and manufacturers did not want that to have that kind of appearance again.

Then you're using the name in a way that is different from literally everyone else. Switch Pro is used as a hypothetical equivalent of a PS4 Pro, Switch 2 or "new Switch" is used as a hypothetical equivalent to a PS5. I cut you some slack since you're obviously autistic but don't do that, it makes you look like a moron if you use a word to mean something different from literally everyone else. And while sales have slowed down, that usually means a system still gets one or two years before its replacement, which would put us on track for 2024. It also still doesn't adequately explain away supply-chain issues. The era of custom chips is over, everyone pulls from the same pile of parts these days and prices are not low enough to hit their hypothetically sought costpoint for power.

If only they had added another Z button.
Then you might want one of those PowerA controllers.

Feels almost the exact same as a Gamecube controller but with clickable sticks, a slightly bigger D-pad, an additional Z button (and they’re bigger), and Select/Home/Share buttons. My only complaint is that the triggers don’t indent as much as they used to; it’s not really worse, just different.

Honestly I've seen it used to describe it both ways intermittently. Mostly because some people are assuming that next gen nintendo hardware will be able play their original switch games and that it will still be portable.

But even words like "new" being used for Nintendo doesn't nesscierily mean a whole new system. New 3DS was not a whole new system and was still just the 3ds.

The problem is since thats a third party thing it doesn't get native support for things that support Gamecube controllers (example: the Switch version of Okami.) And, furthermore, it meant that the Cube was slightly gimped in getting Playstation ports back in the day. Nintendo really fucked up in not going to parity with the Playstation in regards to button quantity back in the day.

2023 could be a very optimistic year for Nintendo z switch users. When you counter in the popularity and possible success of The New Super Mario Bros. Movie, I think we could get some good Mario games soon, if one were to think of the recent Mario and Rabbids game that came out.

That and plus Metroid, Kirby and Bayonetta really changed the way how the characters could be innovated in the years to come.

Yeah, I'll never understand that decision. Why just one Z button? Was it intended as a more useful replacement for the Select button? Why not go all in with two bumpers? It's such an odd design.
It almost feels like it was there more for N64 backwards compat (which basically never got used anyway or was reassigned to R for the few cases of ports) rather than any actual desire from Nintendo to have two triggers per finger. Remember, they insisted on pulling that shit well into the Wii era and we were worried that even the Wii U might give us gimped buttons (it didn't.)

The Switch port of Earth Defense Force 4.1 is well done. It doesn't run as smoothly as the PC version but the framerate didn't crawl to the single digit (yet) on both handheld and TV mode (default setting for the latter - High-Quality Picture off). I only reached mission 60 so I assume the greater dragon or the green ants in the mission pack may make the Switch scream in pain.

The sole notable gameplay differences on Switch is the lack of splitscreen mode (local MP is between each Switch) and completing a mission on Hard rewards you a medal for Easy/Normal as well just like in the other Nintendo ports of EDF games.

Oh come on. You were wrong. Three times.

It's okay.

Ohhh I have two Switches awesome! Wii U "split screen" like they had on Hyrule Warriors was one of the best features of the system and I wish every console could do that.
