B cell lymohoma is a treatable cancer (old-people cancer) I really wonder why it seems like they aren't trying to get rid of that first? From what Jim said (and from my memory) it sounds like he had a lymphoma tumor on the back of his head which was either biopsied/removed. He then gets a bunch of neurological symptoms following that. You had a tumor close to your brain then had neurological symptoms, could they be related? Biopsy of a tumor can lead to the tumor becoming more aggressive, so it's not like you can sit on that all day.

There are many different types of B-cell lymphoma. I had diffuse large b-cell lymphoma, which is the most common of them. It is aggressive and chemotherapy/monoclonal antibodies is the first line treatment, but it's not always successful and plenty of people end up needing immunotherapy or stem cell transplants.

Because there are so many different types of NHL (over 60), and the majority of them are B-cell lymphomas, getting a precise diagnosis is not always simple. Even those types generally regarded as curable may be less amenable to treatment if there is CNS involvement.

It sounds like Jim initially had an indolent lymphoma. These are not regarded as curable and are not generally treated unless they transform into an aggressive form because there is a lifetime limit on how much of some chemotherapeutic agents you can receive. Those drugs also increase your risk of developing other cancers.

The world of blood cancers is complex and treatments for them are constantly evolving. There will always be patients for whom nothing works, though.
