Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Bro what? Thats horrible news. That and Skeleton Knight were my fav animes of Spring 2022. What was the reason for it to be axed? My guess is that it must have not made enough money.
That's pretty much the reason behind 99% of axes sadly. It's said that it was in axe- territory before the anime, but the anime didn't help much with manga sales either despite being kinda popular. You'd think being a Sentai premise alone will make it sell like hot cakes, but nope.

It's also mostly a matter of tastes (Why do you think Rent-a-Girlfriend is still running? Seriously, Japan seems obsessed with it so much it's unreal.), sadly most people apparently aren't into fluffy kino rom-com. It's also why Ottoman got cancelled despite having probably the most healthiest married couple I've seen in a manga despite being a fairly good battle shonen (tho the manga didn't have much else like LAWD does).

LAWD's creators even admitted it was a shame they had to end it there when they announced the end of the series:
Love After World Domination comes to its final chapter this month. It's a real shame, because both myself & Noda sensei had many more chapters we wanted to do. I hope to draw those episodes in some form... The 6th & final volume will be released in December! The number of copies is quite limited, so we would appreciate it if you could pre-order it if possible."

Final volume released 14 days ago from today. It ends at Chapter 37, & it hasn't been translated yet due to it being licensed so no scanlation group will pick it up.

One more thing, the Skeleton Knight LN has ended already, IIRC, it does have a manga tho.

Read volume 7 of Aspergirl (or That's My Atypical Girl) and it's taken a pretty intense turn.

What started out as a trip for Saito to find closure with her abusive father who's dying from cirrhosis ended up leading to her encountering her high school bully, beating her up and now potentially getting in trouble with the police. And now Yokoi is dealing with the fact that she's treating him like an idol.

Such an underrated manga.

Just wondering, how is Chivalry of a Failed Knight? Theres a Bluray steelbook coming in March. Is it worth it, Kiwis?
I liked it enough to get the Blu-Ray. That fall season was pretty crummy to begin with, not helped it aired the same time as The Asterisk War, but Chivalry was one of the better highlights for me, personally. I honestly thought the relationship between the main characters was refreshing, it's just a shame the anime never got a second season.

it's understandable that a publisher rather gives the spot to someone who's gonna sell more copies, sucks but that's business.

crowdfunding would be the best option (even if it's just to test the waters) as long as it makes enough money the creators don't starve - and make a bit of profit alongside it - but it seems japan isn't really onto that for now at least.

tbh the whole business with anime and manga is weird as fuck. at this point I accepted most anime adaptions will only ever get one season, but then you got cases like kuragehime where the manga was running for another 7 years, even got a live action movie AND series after 4/8 years - so obviously there was enough demand. and the source material was successful enough it could've boosted the anime (which is fucking AOTY btw, great music, great cast, great characters, great story, great humor, great everything).

third episode already had me going full kylo

but all that exists are 11 episodes. fucking shame.

You'd think there will be plenty of otaku multi millionaires who will fund their waifu of choice anime/manga like happened with Made in Abyss.

I Think the most strange case is fate/kaleid liner prisma illya that started with a 2 volumes manga that got a sequel and another sequel.

But then in 2013 it got a 10 episodes anime and that was the start of this second life: it got another 3 seasons, 2 movies, novel adapation, game, collaborations and even more stuff.

2023 is the tenth Anniversary of the first anime season and we already have a confirmed sequel to the next part when enough manga chapters are made.

And it all started with a silly spinoff manga.

That and some publishers are more geared to anime then others, I don't know how many of your are familiar with a line of magazines by Shogakukan called Big Comics, but they are somewhat notable for the fact that inside the line,
for every one popular manga series that get an anime adaptation around 3 or 4 receive live action ones.

There's not much talk around the line since western weebs only really care about anime, so what little there is centers around the few series that got anime, ones by established authors who have made popular series in the past, and a very few break out hits.

You'd think there will be plenty of otaku multi millionaires who will fund their waifu of choice anime/manga like happened with Made in Abyss.
I can think of two, Toshio Okada who funded Daicon III and IV for Anno and the future Gianax crew and later became the president of the company up till 1992 and arguable Masao Maruyama to an extent.

I'll never get over the fact that LAWD got axed.
Kinda feel bad for this one. But I feel like sentai theme in anime/manga is in niche category.
I mean, sentai is popular with kids, but anime/manga doing sentai theme or story isn't anywhere similar to normal sentai series, and toys. Then teenagers are growing out of sentai. So you have to pretty much betting on older generations still fond of sentai theme.
But then you still have to deal with competition of tons of other romcom series.

At least, it isn't using normal fantasy romance between hero/yuusha and demon king-queen. Someday, someone has to find or make a name for this category.

Digimons 20th anniversary shorts were crowdfunded (Since Toei and Bandai are a small independent company) even after the failure that was Digimon Tri and 4 out of 5 shorts were the best Adventure material released since the first run ended
They also managed to crowdfund Bloodstained as a video game so I do think there's could be a market for it
