The Ukrainians haven't built their whole identity on waiving the Hammer and Sickle, pining for an empire that almost forced fucking Marxism on the whole world and laid the foundations for the insanity we see today, and they also don't jerk off with sand paper to the idea of nuking my country because their one claim to any status or notoriety is that they inherited the USSR's nuclear arsenal (which they denied Ukraine by lying and promising to never invade them). Russia is an absolute kleptocratic shit hole of a country that still fancies itself a "great power" and is willing to slaughter millions to maintain this obviously false belief. Their people have placed their faith in leaders who steal the bread off of their tables while distracting them by catering to this insane fantasy. They're the absolute scum of the earth and for starting this terrible war they deserve all of the chastisement and malediction the world can muster.

They also remember the USSR being a relatively stable place to live in, compared to the massive chaos of the 1990's shock therapy when it was a free-for-all PVP zone between oligarchs to grab what they could. Of course, these days the saltiest people about how it went are those on the outside who couldn't loot the country themselves because well-connected people in Moscow and St Petersburg moved faster to grab everything not nailed down than Wall Street.
