Even with just being a Minister, you really have to know your shit. Like, reading the Bible once isn't going to cut it, you have to know it well enough to talk about it and give interpretations that support the Doctrine, know the Catechism basically inside out, recall Church teachings off the top of your head, that kinda thing.
Though, to indulge in some hypothetical, lets say he did manage to make it through the schooling and training. I really doubt he'd be able to just find a regular Church, he'd be more successful finding a Catholic Ministry at some liberal school or university. He'd probably get into trouble with the local Priests and Deacons for basically telling the students that the Church teachings don't matter or talking shit about some totes transmisogynistic Cleric, though.
