Changed my opinion on (burn all the) Furries.
About 5 years ago I became very close friends with someone who I learned, over time, was: a crossdresser, a furry, a juggalo, and a card-carrying member of the KISS army. If it involved dressing up and putting on makeup, by hell they were balls deep in it (They were also a "GWAR Cosplayer"). They're still a pleasant, fun person despite all of the above and while they were a bit of a quirky beanpole, they were not insufferable, awkward, or spergy.
Eventually he asked me to go on a day-long trip to a tourist/hiking destination with a bunch of his friends. A couple guys and girls I didn't know but we got along great and had a fantastic time.
On the return trip, out of nowhere, they started trading stories about being management/organizers of furry conventions. I realized that I just spent my whole day hanging out with some hardcore, lifestyle furries but they passed as normal people. Nobody brought up their foxsona, or costumes, or was even all that unusual. Even the management stories were about kicking out neonazis and people who were yiffing in the hallways.
It checked my perception of furries, as a group, incredibly hard. I *always* tell myself now that "The embarrassing 10% makes up 90% of what you see."
Y'know, except for Juggalos.
