Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Unfortunately anime is like that where you just see the same old tired thing again and again. It's like everyone has to follow the same lesson plan. Sure not every show does that, but it's still something that was being parodied 20 years ago by Azumanga Daioh and yet you still see it today. How many series today still do the same maid cafe/haunted house school festival thing? They're far too tied to the typical otaku plots and cliches. That's why I appreciate series like Azumanga Daioh and School Rumble so much.
i mean i think it's because it's aimed at kids and about kids and culture festivals and shit are a real fixture.
life imitates art imitates life so japan may never escape the maid cafe spiral

what i don't understand is why the fuck anyone would take watermelons to the beach

Looks like they going going to make another show for the king of heroes.

Also started reading the DragonBall Super manga and surprised to see Vegeta and Piccolo and Goku use curse words lol.

And two side by sides of Broly.

I actually thought about it earlier today that I haven't seen a school festival in a long time, probably because school settings cleared the way to Isekai.

The AOT thread is dead, but I kind of want to bitch here about how the manga just kinda died during the whole Eren and Survey Corps v. Zeke, Rainer, and Colossus Titan place holder. The entire thing was basically Erwen and Levi marching people off to their deaths despite the previous coup arc( which I didn't care for) having Armin and Hanji basically minimize their losses by actually fucking thinking. Like Erwin's literal plan is just operation Human Shield everytime. I don't really care about meatball Armin getting the Colossus Titan.

The entire thing feels like they could of done things a lot better, but never really thought out an ending beyond Jean cucking Eren. The entire Rumbling just felt like something that should of only happened in a nightmare sequence that Zeke has to justify his beliefs.

I am excited for Strange/Fake, I think it has a very creative interpretation of Jack the Ripper. Probably one of the stronger iterations of Fate in terms of servant cast for me. I did enjoy the whole Flat/Waver thing going on as well, it was bittersweet the way that Alexander has influenced him.

the series was shit the moment eren turned into a titan
the ending just made everyone realize it was shit to begin with

I feel like there was enough to save it, but it kept on slipping in it's own shit. The Jewish Nazis and Nazi Jews certainly didn't help.

There's all this talk about Bocchi the Rock so I read the synopsis and it sounds like a modern Beck Mongolian Chop Squad with a female protagonist. Seriously what's with with MAL describing Bocchi as "bisexual in appearance?" Is it really all that good cause the synopsis does me no favors in grabbing my interest.

not watched the show myself but it seems people really like it beacuse of the weird but sometimes cool animation and good voice acting.

but of course, there is always the yuri shipper's praising it and coomers wanting to fuck a socially awkward teenage girl.

so they finally animating it eh? i read some of the manga and it seems pretty good. i always liked the concept of the holy grail war beacuse you can write it in so many interesting ways and just have characters from legends duking it out. in Strange Fate case, its even more crazy beacuse they took the grail war and said "what if we had the war in modern day American soil and have the CIA not only involved, but also taking part in set war?". things always goes out of hand in grail wars but strange fakes war makes the others look tame by comparison. having Gilgamesh, the OG overpowered servant look balanced against the other servants taking part in this only makes it more interesting.

Bocchi is a standard outcast finding their place story. It's very straightforward but because it's about guitars it's easy to enjoy the high beats because they usually involve someone doing a sweet lickage

I wouldn't call it SoL exactly because the focus is more on her learning about how band shit works, but there's a lot of filler SoL tacked on and it is fucking trash. Bocchi herself is basically walking dead air when she's not playing but that doesn't matter much because this is already more discussion than it really merits. The appeal is in the music stuff and the rest is inoffensive.
Some people like the animation stuff. It's okay. It's not exactly experimental since it's nothing Gainax didn't do more aggressively a fucking decade ago but at least it adds some visual interest to aforementioned dead air's spergout sequences.

Basically it's entertaining if you need something to watch. Don't think too hard about it

Been watching Bocchi with a guitarist friend, and he's been loving it because the music's sweet and he loves the attention to detail with the equipment and playing (it's probably rotoscoping), and also Bocchi is like a genderbent version of him and he likes the different animation methods everytime she gets an anxiety attack. Cloverworks didn't have to go so far as to do that, but they do it anyway. Also major props to the director, it's his first foray into TV anime as one and I think he's done a stellar job.

I think it's cute, and I'm definitely enjoying it, I just don't think it deserves perfect 10s and 9s across the board. While Beck did it longer and more realistically back in the day, its pacing for the anime was like sludge and I was watching it dubbed (maybe a mistake, but it was a good dub). Could only handle two episodes at a time. Bocchi I totally would've been able to binge if I wasn't watching with a friend.
