Absolutely a personal rivalry between Xydexx (hi, Karl! You probably still google your name daily) and 2. There are layered reasons for this but the biggest was that Karl was one of the prime drivers to get 2 kicked out of his Anthrocon shows due to politics.

As someone with arthritis, this is NOT what it looks like when things flare up. If the issue was in his leg, the swelling would be in the leg. As others have pointed out, that absolutely looks like edema, not inflammatory swelling.
