President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that the United States will impose sanctions “far beyond” the ones that the United States imposed in 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

“This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden said in a White House speech, signaling a shift in his administration’s position. “We will continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” he added.

Russian elites and their family members will also soon face sanctions, Biden said, adding that “Russia will pay an even steeper price” if Moscow decides to push forward into Ukraine. Two Russian banks and Russian sovereign debt will also be sanctioned, he said.

Also in his speech, Biden said he would send more U.S. troops to the Baltic states as a defensive measure to strengthen NATO’s position in the area.

Russia shares a border with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to go into the separatist Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine after a lengthy speech in which he recognized the two regions’ independence.

Western powers decried the move and began to slap sanctions on certain Russian individuals, while Germany announced it would halt plans to go ahead with the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At home, Biden is facing bipartisan pressure to take more extensive actions against Russia following Putin’s decision. However, a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans believe that sending troops to Ukraine is a “bad idea,” and a slim minority believes it’s a good one.

All 27 European Union countries unanimously agreed on an initial list of sanctions targeting Russian authorities, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and EU foreign affairs head Josep Borell claimed the package “will hurt Russia … a lot.”

Earlier Tuesday, Borell asserted that Russian troops have already entered the Donbas region, which comprises Donetsk and Lugansk, which are under the control of pro-Russia groups since 2014.

And on Tuesday, the Russian Parliament approved a Putin-back plan to use military force outside of Russia’s borders as Putin further said that Russia confirmed it would recognize the expanded borders of Lugansk and Donetsk.

“We recognized the states,” the Russian president said. “That means we recognized all of their fundamental documents, including the constitution, where it is written that their [borders] are the territories at the time the two regions were part of Ukraine.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Putin said that Ukraine is “not interested in peaceful solutions” and that “every day, they are amassing troops in the Donbas.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday morning again downplayed the prospect of a Russian invasion and proclaimed: “There will be no war.”

“There will not be an all-out war against Ukraine, and there will not be a broad escalation from Russia. If there is, then we will put Ukraine on a war footing,” he said in a televised address.

The White House began to signal that they would shift their own position on whether it’s the start of an invasion.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, the White House deputy national security adviser in public remarks. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

For weeks, Western governments have been claiming Moscow would invade its neighbor after Russia gathered some 150,000 troops along the countries’ borders. They alleged that the Kremlin would attempt to come up with a pretext to attack, while some officials on Monday said Putin’s speech recognizing the two regions was just that.

But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Tuesday that Russia’s “latest invasion” of Ukraine is threatening stability in the region, but he asserted that Putin can “still avoid a full blown, tragic war of choice.”

Yeah, that call for ceasefire is bullshit.
It is just an attempt to get some breathing room for the Russian forces.
Their logistics have been getting hit really hard lately and there's nothing the Russian forces have been able to do to stop it. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the focus will be finding ways to mitigate that.

1/4 assessment, it seems like that Ukrainian strike was a lot worse than the Russians have admitted, there's some serious pushback on their attempts to deflect blame. Everyone in a position of authority seems to have the steadfast determination to never take responsibility for anything and just shit on the soldiers in the field instead.

This Oryx-compiled list of Ukrainan drone losses gives a pretty good look at the variety at their disposal, including fucking cargo-drones.

Wouldn't think an ATGM would have enough ass to punch through a tree, but there it is.

A T-90S (Indian T-90S specially) apparently was redirected from export to the Russian Armed Forces and later destroyed. Some are claiming India sent T-90S tanks to Russia for refurbishing or upgrades meaning this is an Indian built example that was swiped for the Russian military but that is unconfirmed at this time. Interesting as the T-90A variant seems to have disappeared from frontline service.

Pretty standard practice in a time of war. If you're a third party with gear being built/serviced in a nation that goes to war, you should just expect to lose it. As to the T90 As, not many were built in the first place.

Yeah, the Brits stole two dreadnoughts from the Ottomans when WW1 broke out. Both of them had been fully paid for, too, so the British just outright stole Ottoman state property for use of the Royal Navy. Naturally the Ottomans were pissed at a couple modern battleships being taken from them, which was a contributing factor to their decision to join the Central Powers.
It’s interesting how they care about their image of ‘Russia strong’ but have consistently let Armenia, a member of the CSTO, get wrecked. Unfortunately their assumption that we’d do the same to our NATO Allies is extremely dangerous. Not that long ago the US went to war over Kuwait being invaded.
NATO is probably the one diplomatic pact the USA would never just pretend it doesn't exist, mostly because that would be far more damaging than anything else. Yes, Lithuania can rest easy at night knowing that if the Russians crossed the border the USA would start blowing them up because otherwise the Germans would do the stereotypically German thing and try and weasel their way out of obligations they too have signed.

New assessment. Putin's Christmas gambit is incredibly telling, it's the kind of foolish blunder you'd expect from a life-long atheist who knows absolutely nothing about the Christian religion or how it operates in wartime. During WWII priests in the Allied forces held Mass on Christmas (and Easter!) using the hood of a Jeep as an altar and then the men kept fighting.

He praised the attack on Ukraine, and called Putin "the standard bearer of peace." He is facing 5 years in prison

Henryk M. was accused by the district prosecutor in Głogów in Lower Silesia of the crime of publicly praising the initiation and conduct of an aggressive war by the Russian Federation against Ukraine. He faces from several months to 5 years in prison.

Spokesperson for the District Prosecutor's Office in Legnica, Lidia Tkaczyszyn, informed that in December this year, the prosecutor filed an indictment against Henryk M. with the District Court in Legnica for the crime of publicly praising the initiation and conduct of an aggressive war by the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

She explained that this is a crime provided for in the Polish Penal Code in the chapter on crimes against peace, humanity and war crimes.

“The criminal behavior of the accused took place in the period from February 28, 2022 to March 4, 2022 in Głogów, where the accused lives. During this period, Henryk M., using his mobile phone, via the Internet, on Facebook, publicly praised the initiation and conduct of a war of aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, "said the prosecutor.

He praised Russia's aggression against Ukraine. He was arrested by the ABW

According to the findings of the investigation, the accused posted his entries and comments on this topic, among others calling the president of the Russian Federation a "ensign of peace" and claiming that it is Ukraine that is to destroy Ruthenia. He called the war of aggression against Ukraine a military special operation that the Russian Federation is trying to "counteract an insane future" and wished this operation success.

“The report on the crime in this case was submitted by the officers of the Internal Security Agency. The materials provided indicate that the statements of Henryk M., a participant of the internet forum, contain content that directly expresses support for Russian aggression against Ukraine, which - according to the Russian narrative - is referred to as +military special operation+, which was confirmed by the conducted investigation,” said prosecutor Tkaczyszyn.

Evidence against the accused in this case includes: documents provided by the ABW, a secured mobile phone belonging to Henryk M. and an opinion of an IT expert.

Interrogated as a suspect, Henryk M. did not admit to the alleged act and refused to give explanations.

The alleged offense is punishable by imprisonment from three months to five years.

EU Assessed in November That Russia Lost up to 60% Of Its Military Tanks and 250,000 Soldiers in Ukraine

Hervé Bléjean, the Director General of the European Union Military Staff, stated that Russia had lost 60% of the total reserve of military tanks during his speech in front of members of the National Assembly of France in November 2022.

"As per our most accurate evaluations, at least 60,000 Russian soldiers were killed and three times as many wounded, which means that approximately 250,000 Russian soldiers are not capable of fighting at the moment," European Pravda cites a transcript of Bléjean’s speech from 16 November that was published on Wednesday

The Director General of the European Union Military Staff added that it is more complicated to evaluate losses on the Ukrainian side, and the EU believes that those are lower than Russia’s but "still significant".

"Russia has lost 60% of its tank stockpile as well as 70% of its missile reserve capable of hitting ground targets. Therefore, now Russia uses anti-aircraft missiles to hit ground targets, experiencing relevant issues with precision, and counts on receiving equipment from Iran or North Korea," he said.

He explained that it is hard to evaluate the shipments from Pyongyang, but Iran had already supplied UAVs to Russia at that moment. Negotiations on transferring medium-range ballistic missiles were also ongoing then.

Bléjean also named the EU evaluations, according to which Russia has lost 40% of armoured combat vehicles and 20% of artillery since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

He predicted a resume of active offensive operations by Ukraine in spring 2023. However, in order to do that, Kyiv needs to create three new army corps with approximately 75,000 men, the "approximate number of the ground operative group of the French Army".

"Therefore this is the war of attrition like never before, and Ukrainians need our support to restore their strength, repair or replace equipment, as well as have the possibility of continuing to liberate territories annexed after winter," Bléjean pointed out.

Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of NATO, believes that Russia is preparing another wave of offensive during its aggression against Ukraine. He has also warned against underestimating the impact of mobilisation in the Russian Federation.

Germany discusses delivery of Gepard to Ukraine with two states - Spiegel

The German government wants Ukraine to receive more Gepard anti-aircraft guns, so it is in talks with the two countries about it.

This became known to the German edition of Spiegel , reports "European Truth".

As stated in the publication, in addition to the Marder BMP and the Patriot SAM battery, the German government also wants Ukraine to receive Gepard anti-aircraft guns. Therefore, negotiations are already underway with two states, where there are still stocks of Gepard and a lot of 35 mm caliber ammunition.

There is no delivery agreement yet, but there is cautious confidence in Berlin that more Gepard could be delivered to Ukraine in the coming months.

Gepard, of which Germany already delivered 30 systems to Ukraine last year, has proven to be very effective on the front lines. According to military circles, this system is especially effective in the fight against drones launched by Russia.

Berlin has already promised Ukraine seven more Gepards in December. If up to 30 additional installations of this type are delivered, this will significantly strengthen Ukraine's air defense.

On January 5, after a telephone conversation between US President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the White House announced that the United States plans to transfer Bradley infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine, and Germany - Marder armored vehicles. Unofficially it was reported that we can talk about 50 Bradley.

In addition, Berlin announced that, following Washington, it would provide Ukraine with a Patriot air defense battery.

Germany to hand over Patriot air defense battery to Ukraine

Germany, following the United States, will supply Ukraine with an additional battery of the Patriot missile defense system.

This is stated in a statement by the White House following a telephone conversation between US President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, writes European Pravda.

"In light of Russia's ongoing missile and drone attacks on Ukraine's critical infrastructure, President Biden and Chancellor Scholz reiterated their commitment to continue supporting Ukraine's urgent air defense needs. In late December, the United States announced the donation of a battery of Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine. "Germany will join the United States in supplying an additional Patriot air defense battery to Ukraine," the statement said.

Biden and Scholz expressed appreciation for the military support provided to Ukraine by other allies and partners, commended the ongoing coordination efforts of the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group, and welcomed additional donations of air defense systems and combat vehicles.

At the end of December, the German government announced that it was “not opposed in principle” to transferring air defense systems, but did not have spare systems .

Earlier it was reported that the Pentagon is considering the possibility of training the Ukrainian military to work with the Patriot missile defense system at a military base in the United States.

Recall, the United States announced a new $1.85 billion military assistance package for Ukraine, which for the first time provides for the transfer of the Patriot air defense system.

Subsequently, the United States revealed more detailed content of the said military aid package.

So Ukraine is requiring all cowards men who are abroad to register themselves with the military

Google translated version

The issue of accounting for military obligated and reservists who are outside Ukraine in 2023 has now received legislative registration. Dipuzistas will organize their military records abroad and return the men home during the mobilization. Which of the Ukrainians is primarily concerned with materials OBOZREVATEL

The new rules are set out in the Resolution adopted on December 30, 2022 №1487 Cabinet.

According to the document "On approval of the Procedure for the organization and maintenance of military records of conscripts, conscripts and reservists", a number of new responsibilities are assigned to foreign diplomatic institutions of Ukraine, as well as new powers in the issue of taking into military records of persons abroad.

Currently, Ukrainian embassies and consulates in foreign countries must keep military records of conscripts, conscripts and reservists who are on temporary consular records.

Citizens who are on a temporary consular record and have reached the conscription age and are not deferred or exempted from conscription for military service must be informed of its commencement in Ukraine.

In addition, to notify at the seven-day period from the date of taking into or removing from the consular records of conscripts, conscripts and reservists to the relevant district (city) territorial centers of staffing and social support, SBU bodies, units of the Foreign Intelligence Service at the place of residence of such citizens on military records.

The new procedure for organizing and maintaining military records of conscripts, conscripts and reservists also defines the time frame for the stay of persons abroad who need to be deregistered.

In particular, it is said that the removal from it of persons who leave abroad for a period of more than three months, is carried out after their personal arrival to:

  • relevant district (urban) territorial center of staffing and social support;
  • SBU body;
  • Foreign Intelligence Service.
  • In any case - with documents confirming the departure abroad.

The document stipulates that conscripts, conscripts and reservists must be on military record, regardless of where they are.

In the event of departure from Ukraine for more than three months, they must be registered by military at the place of consular records in foreign diplomatic institutions of Ukraine.

It is legally determined that these categories of Ukrainians are obliged to arrive in the foreign dipuchy of Ukraine in person within seven days from the date of arrival at the new place of residence.

With myself you need to have a passport of a citizen of Ukraine and relevant military-accounting documents.

It will be recalled that until February 19, 2023, martial law and general mobilization continued due to the war with the Russian aggressor. Relevant (members of the Verkhovna Rada supported last year on November 16.

As it was previously reported in Ukraine accelerate the collection of data on military service through state registers

I can't imagine anyone would be stupid enough to willingly jump head first into this meat grinder and die for a corrupt shithole (this goes both for Russia and Ukraine)
Congratulations; for writing such a short comment, but still being eligible for the first of these new stickers:

I’d be more willing to do it if my country was being attacked. A good example being if I lived in the Soviet Union during WW2 or modern day Ukraine. I’d be willing to defend my country against an invader even if Joseph Stalin is running the show because the people attacking us are literally gunning down entire villages for living space. I’d take my chances with the Tyrant I know. Russia isn’t as bad as Nazi Germany, but I’d argue even if you hate Zelenski, if you’re Ukrainian it’s perfectly logical to fight against the people bombing your hospitals and homes.

As someone with no familial or personal ties to either country it’d be fucking stupid to get involved. It’d be just as retarded as the idiots that volunteered to fight in Spain decades ago.

Denys talks about the Russian capture of Bakhmutske and continued pressure on Soledar.

ISW Reports that Russians are in Soledar but fighting to capture the town itself.

I was seeing comments in videos and telegram about Ukrainian forces using salt mine tunnels to strike frontline Russian positions from the rear, but nothing confirmed about.

Marders have MILAN which are definitely not better than the twin TOW 2 a Bradley carries, and it's also much harder to rearm the MILAN since it's mounted externally instead of being built into the turret proper. It also has a worse gun and I can almost guarantee isn't anywhere near as upgraded as any Bradleys being sent to the ukes because they've been in storage for years at this point.

It's not even a bad vehicle but you're a dummy.
Its Stonehead.
He also claimed that PzH-2000 was a tank.

(tested in a war against sandniggers who didnt have anything to shot back?
Where does this dumb idea come from?
Iraq was the world's fourth largest army at the time, with easily over 4,000 tanks at its arsenal - including over 1,000 T-72 variants. All supported by BMPs and a whole other host of armored vehicles, ATGMs, SAMS, ballistic missiles, conventional & rocket artillery and mine fields.

Desert Storm and the early phase of 2003 Iraq War were arguably the last major conventional wars until Russia rolled its tanks across the border last February...

the bradley is armed well, but who cares about that if you dont have the right engine? its the same issue as your MBT, it sucks, there is nothing better than a sturdy diesel...
Are you really saying Germany makes the best engines in the world? I know you're mentally retarded on account of being German, but this is a simply remarkable claim even for you. Turbines actually last longer than diesels on account of fewer moving parts, and fuel efficiency once at full RPM's is even better than that of a diesel, which is why CODAG is a thing. The Abrams is still using the original turbine, too, whereas it took decades for Maybach to whip up a diesel as small as the Abrams' turbine that had comparable output.

Are you going to claim the Leo 2 AV EMES fire control was better than the one in the Abrams? I hope you do because that FCS was made by Hughes for sale to the Germans.
Why would the U.S. Army buy and use diesel German engines when American engines at minimum are just as good and run on JP8.
All of NATO runs on JP-8, actually. Its not like anyone else has enough oil resources or refining capacity to provide for modern needs even in peacetime, let alone war. The fact the European nations are stuck with whatever the fuck the USA wants if they want to have any fuel or ammo will never not be hilarious and is entirely their own damn fault for not investing in native production.

Maybe his translation is lacking, but the Bradley doesn't even use a turbine.

And that's besides our diesel engines & turbines being multi-fuel. They can run on fucking heating oil, mo-gas mixed with 10-weight, or even a cherry juice cocktail in a pinch.

Edit: artillery hits Russian mortar & MG elements near Bakhmut, narrated by "Chaga-Chaga" Madyar.

The piles of expended rocket tubes & MG brass are an indication that while they lack almost everything else, these particular Russians haven't run low on ammo or bodies (yet), and they're burning through metric fuck-tons of it for very little result.

Na, he brought up the Abrams using a worse engine than the Leopard's diesel, saying it was the same overall issue as the Bradley: US engines suck, period. Which is probably the most hilarious thing he's ever said since I don't think anyone has ever complained about US vehicle engines, save perhaps WW2 when our airplane radials sucked up avgas like crazy. British crews didn't like that about the Stuart since the range sucked, but unlike the Crusaders they had been using prior it broke down less, so it was a bit of a wash.

Unilateral ceasefires are a lolcow-tier strategy. It's the international version of supergluing yourself to an expressway so that cars will stop.

Regarding Russian missile supply, Ukraine has published estimates.
1673101204275.png
Somewhat doubting these, I don't personally believe Russia would allow their stocks to get this low. And also the claim that S-300 and Onyx can't be produced at all. But then again who knows?
