Thomas the Tank Engine Thread - The place for fellow autists to gather around and discuss the rising inflation in Sodor.

One thing that's kinda mildly unnerved me since I was a kid is the fact I actually owned a copy of the Thomas SNES game but I couldn't ever get it to work properly. I don't ever remember any of my relatives ever buying the game for me., either. The game would just basically get stuck on the start screen and then cycle through gameplay demo footage. I never fucking sold off the thing it so it's probably rotting in the basement somewhere with other remnants of years long gone. No spookypasta tier shit here, just actual genuine confusion and memories of childhood disappointment.

When I was a little kid, I didn't just like the Thomas guys, but a whole bunch of shit from the whole sentient vehicle trend in kids media. Shit like budjee and jay jay, as well as several other fuckers of varying success. I never expected years later there'd be people fucking obsessed with it and for over last decade or so it's never stopped being really funny to me. Speaking of that Jay jay though I remember fucking years back I got into an argument with someone who was swearing up and down that the only jay jay that existed was the weird cgi ass shit version and it was really fucking hard for some reason to find footage of the original with how the algorithm was to prove to them it experienced the same shift from weird but mildly charming static puppets to grotesque uncanny early 2000s cgi abominations. Thomas soon followed but it wasn't as quick a shift as jay jay. I think budjee got an actual animated adaptation instead of a puppet/cgi one that lasted a whole of one fucking pilot episode.

I looked it up while writing just to see if anything changed from the time I had that stupid ass fight and sure enough it has. Not only is jay jay's og show easier to find due to thomasfags reuploading some of them I forgot how fucking inexplicably FILTHY the human miniatures looked.

Dude looks like he's been recovered from the wreckage of a building that got bombed.

I remember being a big fan of Thomas when I was 4 years old. I remember watching rerruns of the classic series when it aired on PBS so long ago. I remember when my parents got me those magnet Thomas the Tank engine toys. I don't remember if those were the ones made in that Chinese factory tainted by lead poisonings or not. But I remember laying down those rubbery plastic tracks throughout the house and putting all the trains together to playout Sodor. I think I still own that complete collection book of Rev. Awdry's stories.

I myself had the ERTL die-cast toys. I still have them in my dad's house (somewhere). Rate me autistic, but die-cast toys are the best.

iirc isn't there some crazy Tolkein-level backstory of the island going back like a thousand years and it only come up in the setting notes?

but yeah back in the day one of my "hang out with nerds online and watch shit together" the dude would run the early Ringo stuff as piss break filler between movies, they were kinda fun to heckle with pals as the trains would be all UK-style passive-agressive loathing of each other

Tugsbros rise up.
BITCHES LEAVE

Figured since we're on the topic of Thomas...
NGL, i used to watch tons of this guy's stuff growing up, but looking back on it.... yeah it's some definite cringe.

Loved the early seasons of the show and the collectable die cast toys as a kid.

Kinda sad to see it still going and not look like a model train set anymore.

Out of curiosity given their claimed correlations with autism, has anyone here ever encountered a transgender Thomas the Tank Engine fan?
I actually have, in fact they're one of my closest friends. She's big into the show, I'm more interested in it from a media and model making standpoint, we're both avid model makers and, yes, we make large scale model trains. It's one of the reasons we find this show so interesting, A lot of interesting techniques went into the models and scenery. (inb4 >She)

Fun fact - The band Queen, before Freddie joined was called Smile, with Tim Saffell as frontman, when he left he eventually went on to be chief model maker for Thomas the Tank Engine.

The community seems very isolated, but when you venture into it, it's a true den of insanity, no self-awareness, and the non-sexual definition of "Why would you put that on the internet?" It's very dense, with a lot of autism crammed into a small space, it's difficult to know where to look first. Do you look for the people making awful shit and posting it without a hint of shame? Do you look at the people making Youtube videos with Tomy toys, or Trainz 2006, or do you look at the people and try and follow that?

Let's post some shit from the Twitter creatures.

And, yes, some of them have self-insert characters. If this guy evert reads this - I hope Sir Nigel Gresley is waiting for you in hell with the fire irons from one of his engines.

If you think that's the worst the "Modellers" in this community get, you're very much wrong. The problem is I'm a dipshit and didn't archive things as they appear on my timeline, but there's so much shit and god awful content here it needs to be enjoyed by people who aren't gonna pretend it'd good, purely because an autist made it. In fairness, however, there are some fucking exceptional modellers, if I see anything I think you folks will find impressive - I will post it.

But, of course, they're on DeviantArt too. I have taken a look on there in the past, and it is a gold mine of Autism. Again - some really good work there, but then you have the "Humanitised" shit on there as well.

I am currently trying to find the repainted toys. There's a subsect of these guys who repaint the old ERTL toys as their own """O.C""", but... it's bad. I've seen some really shit examples and I'm really kicking myself over not saving it. We're talking un-thinned enamel paints on surfaces with no primer, then they hand paint lines on them, again without thinning, or masking the lines. It's honestly toddler tier work in places.

I'd been intending to make this thread for quite some time, decided to get down to it tonight only to discover I've been headed off at the pass, so GG on beating me to the punch OP.

There is a real gold mine of autism on Twitter, there appears to be a lot of drama and people getting #MeToo'd in the community. I mean, shocker right? Autists not knowing "no" means "no" and trying to nonce on other people.

You can argue the first seasons are watchable as an adult, they're very much geared towards "Watch with your child", whereas the later ones are "Put your infant infront of the screen", which seems to be what a lot of the Adult Fans of Thomas and Friends (AFTFF) seem to be into. If you have adults watching kids shows like this, and making crap like this - you have a very deep rabbit hole to go down,

This stuff wasn't hard to find, a couple of Twitter accounts and a cursory DeviantArt search. It was difficult to know what to post, frankly there's a lot and a hundred different directions to look with only limited time to do it.
