Rekieta's hardcore fandom is kinda like a cult, but it's not fair to say he functions like a Jim Jones or Charles Manson figure within said cult. You could probably write a psych paper about this phenomenon, if there isn't one already.

There is also an interpretation that even Charles Manson didn't plan for things to go as far as they did and that the murders were originally his followers' idea to gain his approval and bust a buddy out of jail. The idea being that Manson had desensitized them to violence/degeneracy at this point and told them he would just be there to facilitate whatever plans they cooked up. I think that theory is mostly cope from Manson trying to shift blame, but cults do sometimes enter feedback loops like this where, to maintain their control, the leaders have to co-opt the initiative taken by the serfs, even if it goes further than they would have on their own.

Nick's thing is an extremely fast version of audience capture where the people excited by his oversharing got really involved at the exact time the audience split to Locals, which also let them overshare their enthusiasm in a way they couldn't in a more moderated chat. Nick was trying to establish himself on a new platform and misread the signals because he was already nervous about whether he could retain his numbers. He was instantly reassured that people would listen to his most private, disgusting musings, pay him for it, and then start sending in nudes of their own volition. He read it as a green light to never look back and lean into this new direction. But the move from YouTube to Locals created too much noise for Nick's experiment to work, and now he's surprised that he has locked himself into a new persona without understanding that he was only hearing from the most insane group of followers. And now he has to double down by sneering at the outgroup because they won't send him nudes.

I peeked into Locals and they had just discovered MATI and Josh’s take on Rackets. I was going to take a few screenshots but I found one that encapsulates all of the arguments everyone kept making. The only thing to keep in mind is that this message has above average coherency, grammar and spelling than most of the other Locals messages.
