Bam was certainly not shit tier. He tore up Burnside, did some legendary nbd street drop ins, had a sweet varial heel and was really good at mini ramp.

Olympics only became a skeboarding thing like 3 years ago and isn't really anything Skaters care about. This is true for all the gay competitions like xgames or street league too, it's not a good metric for judging a skater!

The fact he's piled out to the point of being too fat and wobbly to ride these days is a real shame, and he comes across as a massive wanker even underneath the mental health issues but dude could definitely skate.

Bam is not famous for skating and would not have become famous famous for skating. The only shit you guys defending his skating have for evidence is that he had sponsorships. That’s not a high bar. I’ve known people who had sponsorships that nobody ever heard of.

You can’t make the comparison to DiCaprio and acting, though, because translating that would mean Bam is more like Billy Mays. He’s never been in an actual movie, but everyone recognizes him for his commercials.

Bam never skated in any kind of competition ever. All you ever saw of him were videos that he edited himself or his friends edited, like promo reels

Bam was a decent skater, but once he made it to MTV his skating definitely took the back seat and he‘s admitted himself that he committed fully to MTV production and eventually stopped skating altogether.

But even at his best when he was purely an athlete focused on his trade he was not at the top the game and has never been a contest skater. Hell, look at the roster of THPS1 and ignoring Rodney Mullen (because he’s an alien that nobody should have to be compared to) he wouldn’t crack the top 5 in a contest against that lineup. Plainly stating it, without VLB or Jackass Bam would’ve never had the exposure he did to the masses and he would’ve been a semi obscure pro from the early aughts who fell into obscurity (think Shorty’s Steve Olson or Patrick Melcher or Josh Kasper or Ragdoll for example).

Anyway, Jason Lee would be a more fitting comparison in the sense that both were fairly talented (without being top tier) yet had a solid enough track record within the scene, which helped them get the foot on the door to achieve mainstream fame as anything but skaters, which in turn led to a certain overhyping of their skating prowess in retrospective.

don't know if someone posted this before, but this channel on youtube named "UncleUnbated" made a bunch of videos about bam margera during the last months and put them together in a video as "season 1 of the life of bam margera"

it has so much shit: from irl bam stuffs, to comments on the content he made (cky videos), to material he got from diferent sources (magazines, books), to other stuffs happening like "big brother" and skate related dealings

the channel also has a video about ryan dunn and another about don vito... i believe i found the channel months ago after binge watching "viva la bam"

SteveO explained on Stern years ago that Bam was the second highest paid after Knoxville in Jackass.
Knoxville & Tremaine started Jackass but the CKY videos were huge and they wanted the content in Jackass so the two camps merged.
