Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

Duke Nukem is a product of its time. Forever could've innovated the FPS genre before Half Life 2 did with the Unreal Engine build. The tech is impressive even to this day. But, DNF lacks direction. It's basically set piece after set piece with no plot tying it together.

It's not DOOM where you ARE Doomguy. It's not Half Life where you are witnessing stuff unfold. It's not CoD where you are a cog in a war machine. It's Duke Nukem. The 80s are over. Maybe he could parody 90s shooters, but with Gearbox, that's unlikely.

Let Duke die.
The only way I see Duke Nukem working now is parodying woke culture. He's the exaggerated physical manifestation of "toxic masculinity", now put him in a world that hates him instead of worships him.

who's supposed to have to pull his punches to avoid turning them into pancakes
You literally just explained why Spidey doesn't one-shot everyone he fights, and the basic chumps that he'd have no problem with are subsequently a non-issue for any player who isn't physically disabled.
Abby is what a natural woman looks like
I'd be more inclined to buy their argument if she didn't have the face of a 14 year old boy.

Which is fine because everybody knows fem Shepard is the canon Shepard.

Hale was worse than the male voice actor who's name I can't even remember. Just sounded like a bored voice actor trying to sound like a tough bitch.

This became more and more true as the series went on.

Okay, a woman doesn't look like that unless she's on steroids.
Exactly, which is why all of their examples of women with her body type are WWE wrestlers and women that hold deadlift records. Vice had an article written by a very snarky woman that lifts about how anyone can get arms like Abby and you're an incel if you disagree. The author didn't have arms like Abby. The author still doesn't have arms like Abby. I think she might be missing a crucial ingredient.

Ehh... i mean dont you larp as chick from one of those 60s hollywood movies so its a bit hypocritcal to say that also 80s pretty cool
Forever played too straight while pretending it was self aware
Didnt 2001 forever also go for more serious and darker tone ( which i personally like ) over the 2011 forever

Yes and no. Yes because from what we can see from the leaks, the game at least starts off more intense than the released version (perhaps becoming a bit less serious later on as Duke does shit like riding a donkey). And no because its incomplete and we cant be 100% sure either way.

But the fact of the matter is that 2001 DNF looked far more engaging and feels like overall a much better version of the setup 2011 had. Duke at least comes off as less of a disconnected dick (I still cant forget the "Looks like you are uhh, fucked..." what were they thinking...) and seems to take this more seriously in his own Duke way.

Honestly, that would sound cool. Makes Duke the underdog in a world that enjoyed peace far too much and thus became weaker and ungrateful for Duke's actions, suddenly recontextualizing his victory over the aliens as "senseless slaughter" when they could have perhaps negociated with the aliens. Duke knows that is fucking bullshit but good luck convincing the major younger population of that.

Maybe he is still rich but not popular anymore. I guess we could have a small group of characters that still believe in Duke's actions and maybe they know of a new invasion and are seeking guidance of the only man that was able to stop them last time. It would be a good opportunity to explore Duke's character and the setting that is obviously taking inspiration from our current thankless society that has forgotten its heroes.

I like Clayfighter 63/3. I know it's a crappy fighter but there's something about it I just find endearing. Plus I find it funny people looking back and shitting themselves over how racist and problematic its characters are.

Even if you assume she's a genetic freak for, uh... some reason, what are the odds anyone would have adequate leisure time or nutrition in a zombie post-apocalypse to support looking like a peak condition modern strongman/powerlifter?

So if you accept their statistically unlikely post hoc rationalization, it still doesn't make sense in the context of the game's world. It's retarded on multiple different levels, just so the devs can show us that they're very, very progressive.

Demolition Man + Escape From New York = ok there's your new Duke Nukem, should be simple enough even for a video game writer.

The most problematic of all was the cut character Hobocop, who has been mostly sprite ripped from a beta and added to Mugen. The original Clayfighter is the oldest fighting game I know that tells you how many hits you did in a combo. All modern fighting games are standing upon its innovations.

Maybe she could get enough protein by sucking dick all day? I don't know. But I do know her workout routine, which they actually put in the game, is retarded. It's upper body/rest/jogging/full body/rest/yoga/rest.

Neil Druckmann is a turbo Jew so that's to be expected. But I also think he's just a fucking coomer. Was Tarantino doing a progressive making the lead of Kill Bill a woman? Probably, but he also just wanted to write about a woman in a coma getting raped and then film her feet.

Best way to do Duke in a woke world is there's an alien invasion/Dr Proton is back/etc, and everything about the human response is screwed up because woke. Duke can't get a decent gun because the dangerhair assigned to him lectures him about gun violence instead. There's a mission where he has to rescue the director of HR. She's fat, she has problem glasses, she hectors Duke, and she gets eaten by a gigantic cryptid, and Duke is glad to be rid of her. At some point, Duke meets up with the boys from Redneck Rampage, and they finish the job on the aliens. When they're done, instead of being grateful, a soyfaced retard starts lecturing Duke about all the problematic language he used on the aliens, game ends with Duke's fist about to slam into the guy's face, before everything goes black and the theme plays.

While we're on the subject of underrated classics, I have many fond memories of the Defender 2002 remake. It was panned by critics in its time for being generic, but these are the same journo fags that mindlessly praised the carbon-copy FPS shooters of the time. I wish we had the same over-abundance of flight sims that we currently have for shooters.

Mark Meer. My biggest problem with him was his voice was just way too high pitched and nerdy sounding. I didn't think he was a bad actor or anything.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is hardly the most exciting game ever made, but KOTOR 2 makes it look like a mile-a-minute thrill ride.

Holy fuck, it's boring. The pacing is unbearable - even KOTOR 1 started to pick up some momentum once you did the Jedi training.
Respectfully disagree. KOTOR 2 did a better deconstruction of the Star Wars than Ryan Johnson could ever hope for. He even stole the game's whole schtick of there being a last Jedi for his movie title.

I'll grant that the game doesn't really appeal in the same way that something like The Force Unleashed will, with high octane action. However, for me that was the precise appeal of the game. I loved losing myself in the roleplaying and world building.

In addition, it has my favorite female Star Wars character, Kreia. She has a very interesting philosophy outlined by this video (definitely not to your taste if you found the game to be a snooze fest but posted for anyone interested ITT):
Everyone's first playthrough is light-side, and she'll constantly rag on you for blindly being a goody two-shoes, making excellent points along the way. Usually, your second playthrough is dark-side and you'll be surprised to see that she treats your ruthless dipshit character with even more contempt than she does for a goodie two-shoes.

My favorite part about her character is she's even discourages meta gaming as you get more efficient at the game. Once you have a few playthroughs under your belt, you'll be tempted to make a min/maxed character that kills everyone possible and does as many quests as possible. The worst part is you need to take Kreia with you everywhere for her xp bonus and she constantly shits on you for all your decisions. This lines up perfectly with her philosophy of self-reliance because being over-leveled isn't a true test of your skill.
