Is watching Chillin in My 30s After Getting Fired From the Demon Army worth watching based only after watching one episode? I don't know . . .

I'll be honest. I never gave a shit about Evangelion and at this point I'll never watch it because I feel like I basically know the story.

Beyond that I still have not found the only Isekai I would actually want to read. Is there one where one reincarnate goes full villain and it isn't played as him civilizing savages, but straight doing eugenics and warcrimes while another reincarnate tries to stop them? I want to see some motherfucker going full Sauron and enslaving people because he thinks he's justified and from then on he keeps making moral compromises until he's a complete monster.

I'd like to say "Evangelion was probably more interesting back when it was a new to have a teen mech pilot react realistically to being a teen mech pilot" but I haven't gone on a Gundam dive yet so maybe that concept already had been tackled by then.

Those usually tend to have a lot of build up before they get to the point where they're doing that, don't they? Pretty sure Overlord was said that it would go in that direction, not sure.
Iirc there's Mynoghra, haven't read more than the manga though. There's also the Re:Zero IFs, though they're pretty short. The main story might count if you wait a couple more years.

Overlord is dogshit. It promises something cool but it fucks up every single aspect on the way then just stops giving a shit and drags like a motherfucker.
The slime one is basically Overlord done super well (except he's a good guy so it doesn't fit the query)

Imagine the STENCH
I don't need to imagine.

Nah you should still check it out; it's probably not what you think.
Something that frustrates me about Eva is that it's one of those elaborate mystery/existential things where there's a surface-level plot that's clearly incomplete because you're meant to think about it and piece together your own interpretation, but the entire internet decided early on that thinking was too hard so everyone parrots whatever bullshit explanation first hit the web decades ago. Kinda like how everyone's completely fucking wrong about certain FromSoft games but they get angry if you suggest any textual readings that aren't wiki-approved. Or Metal Gear. You can tell everyone's lying to Shinji, but the story is from his perspective so it's hard to tell about what and why.

And story aside, the atmosphere and action are great in ways that are pretty unique to this series alone. It's 100% worth checking out just on that level.
You can fucking skip the remake shit though.

They covered something like this in the third episode, where Shinji's class finds out he's an EVA pilot and treat it like it's really cool. A couple of his classmates then get stuck in the robot with him and see the nightmare he has to go through.

My fiance forced me to watch FMA:B about a year ago which was my first anime ever besides seeing Naruto on Adult Swim once when I was a kid (and thinking it was the gayest thing ever). I really liked it and loved the ending. Now she is making me watch Naruto after much resistance on my part, but subbed. And I gotta say it's pretty cool. It's amazing how much better it is than the english dub, no wonder childhood me hated it, lol. And now we've started Shippuden not too long ago and it is awesome. Im sure some sweaty 350 pound creature in this thread is going to scream at me for liking it because of this that and the other reason, but it is epic and the music is great. Also during this time I've watched Akira because I've heard it's one of the greats, and I wasn't disappointed (she didn't like it though; women amirite). I think I really prefer the artstyle of older anime over the newer stuff, I can't really explain why though. Anyone have some recommendations of good boomer anime (other than dragon ball)?

You know I wouldn't be surprised if there's at least half a dozen Chinese or Korean webtoon isekai that fit the bill since I know chinks cultivation series can be laughably bad at far they take the revenge idea and gooks are only one step behind from time to time.

I would definitely recommend reading the manga for things like Naruto, Bleach & One Piece, & later just going to YT for scenes which you liked.

t. Guy who read Naruto & Bleach in 8 days. & One Piece beforehand in 7 days.

Yeah, the whole "being a high schooler who has to pilot giant robot sucks" thing was a major theme in the first Gundam from 1979.

keeping with the theme, pokemon and yugioh.
also sailor moon.

otherwise I wouldn't limit it to boomer, the few I can think of from the top of my head she probably wouldn't like either. otoh maybe patlabor/macross/LOGH (old or new, personally prefer new because of the sawano sountrack) works for her.

and of course there's always ghibli.

Gundam has Amuro, Kamille, Al and Bernie from War in the Pocket, and Judau basically all suffer through that bullshit. Amuro straight up kills people and starts sulking because he's basically pressed into service because all the adults died along with like 1/2 of humanity (Zeon did nothing wrong). Most of the people they kill are not generally evil people, there are good people in both militaries and a lot of them act in good faith during cease fires.

The fucked up shit is when Amuro starts hearing peoples dying thoughts as they are screaming for their mother as they burn alive in their cockpits. Kamille starts Zeta as an autistic child and then gets fucked up enough to basically quit because of all the death.

War in the Pocket is the best of the OVA series and really pushes the anti-war message in a way that actually ends in a great way. It's stand alone and I'd recommend that if you want to get into the Universal Century part of Gundam.

I really just want more characters like Sauron in shitty isekais rather than Dragon Quest Ripoffs where they verge into sci-fi and the demons aren't bad. I want a fucking Demon King that is prepared to torture people just to ensure the lowest fucking shit bailer knows to be afraid of him. I want generations of a country enslaved because they pissed him off and he's petty enough.
I feel like a lot of modern writing misses the idea of Tolkien's idea of a Satanic figure. Morgoth is another beast, but Sauron is a figure that appears shallow with actual depth to him.
