Piece of shit software - Crappy software/apps/programs that make you MATI

  • 🔧 Actively working on site again.
I hate, hate, hate, Apple's reliance on MDM/APNS as The One True Way to manage Apple products. Setting aside the the linguistic silliness of using "Mobile Device Management" to administer a 70lb Mac Pro desktop, I can at least appreciate what they're trying to do - make the management of macOS and iOS devices as uniform as possible, since that's what they're trying to do with the OSes, anyway. Ok, fine.

What pisses me off is that I don't have a good way to troubleshoot and audit what's actually happening. If I build a Configuration Profile and attempt to deploy it to a bunch of computers, I can see if it succeeded or failed, but I get 0 feedback on to *why* it failed. I also have no way of distinguishing unacknowledged commands that are because "this machine is not communicating with anything" versus "this machine is refusing the acknowledge commands from my MDM server, probably because of some crummy certificate issue."

MSI Afterburner and whatever it is based on is using that horrible chink UI that they used for motherboard related software in the early 2000s. It's like a Kai Krause nightmare. JDownloader and Media Downloader(both are non CLI Youtube-DLP alternatives) also have very mysterious design choices.

The good news is MSI used a Russian dev to license the Afterburner software, so they stopped making it and won't continue the license for war/political reasons.

The bad news is they are making their own now that can be fully pozzed.

OneNote is the Devil's anus.

Fucking piece of shit.
OneNote 2010 was awesome. Even worked great on my Atom netbook at the time.

OneNote now has even less features and so much slower even on a modern desktop. Oh, but it has a shitty sync that never works properly. Such innovation!

The sad part is that they're just following an industry trend. Microsoft is doing the same with Intune where their ultimate goal is to make Group Policy defunct (probably because they can't separately nickle and dime customers for GPOs) and force everybody to manage their Windows shitboxes via Intune. (and ideally all your phones, tablets, Apple devices, the kitchen sink, etc.)

Best MDM-moment I had recently was when troubleshooting why users could not remove apps, it turned out it was because we had a policy forcing a certain dock layout on iPhones. How the fuck does that make any sense? Trying to prevent devices from auto-installing certain apps is an absolute headache when Intune tells you that the app is installed but also evaluates the policy as "remove" and no amount of syncing helps.

Agreed, fat client OneNote that isn't syncing to SharePoint is an absolute dream. I think Office 2010 was generally the pinnacle of the entire suite too, Outlook especially has gone down the toilet lately with endless bugs and performance issues.

I can't wait for the mandatory rainbow + tranny flag theme. Didn't MSI recently retweet some degenerate furfag shit? Hopefully they also have some furfag shit in there for good measure!

Yup. I'll be honest, if they wanted to skin the GPU program I use to adjust my GPU fans with some nice porn quality shecocks I could at least get behind that, But buying hardware that let's furries run amok? No way. I'm not going to risk my RMA getting pozzed by people wearing fursuits in clean rooms.

I don’t know about Windows, but Office 2011 was peak for Macs. Microsoft has just been dropping the ball constantly since. Did they reach peak diversity or is it some other issue?

IBM SPSS

This lovely piece of software is required in research and takes more ram to run then it should have any right to. It also is subscription based so unless you have a student discount where it costs only $10 your paying $1,000 or more a year for it.
It's like pulling teeth trying to get academia to use anything different too.

SPSS will just completely shit itself on huge data sets.

It wanted to shit itself with only 200 participants. Though maybe using mutlivariate ANOVAs to assess multiple IV and DV groupings was too much for the poor thing to handle.

Stats programs should at least be able to handle the fact that someone may want to look at men vs women in a situation as well as the overall picture....

You're making me have horrible flashbacks to when I had to deal with it for Biostatistics. The program was absolutely horrible, and I almost got fucked over on my midterm because it refused to work half the time.

Chinese brands have gotten better at hardware but not so much in software. If you use something like a huion tablet then most issues will be the flimsy drivers that they will stop servicing sooner than they should.
Expect to have to reinstall at random times or it never picking up the right monitor.

It feels patronizing to make people use SPSS. Yeah, it's easy to use. I guess. Except when it doesn't work and you have no recourse.

At least with R the problem is with you and not the program (until you get into like 4GB+ data sets, but this would make SPSS immediately immolate your computer in an attempt to save itself.)

i've said it before in this very thread. the SPS in SPSS actually stands for Shit, Pure Shit.

I've come to dug this up thanks to our favorite pedo and tranny-filled chat and streaming client, Discord. A lot of shit has been happening this month, there's a data breach. But the biggest happening of all and it actually is big enough to be classed as one big dumpster fire, is them ditching the discriminator in favor of usual usernames ala twitter and other websites. Gone are the days of seeing Dickballs#5000 and instead you'll likely see Dickballs_5000 or any possible variation thereof.

There seems to be plenty of people who do not like this, you can at least guarantee to see someone on their subreddit who's whining about this upcoming change every day thanks to some reasons, impersonation being the most brought up.

It got to the point that there's a partner who leaked things about how it currently works, and Discord looking like they got reddit jannies (reddit itself, not the moderators of the sub) to remove the post due to violating content policy which is extremely dubious as hell.

Thankfully, there is someone who happened to have archived the post before it was removed.

The amount of shit Adobe pulls on its users in comparison to how much of an influence they have as a company is the most agonizing shit imaginable. They have the arts industry by the fucking balls and they know there is no good alternative. Microsoft is a fuckhuge company and as a result makes fuckhuge mistakes, but Adobe is by comparison much smaller but making a FUCKTON of mistakes in how they license their software (you like cloud licensing? too bad, go fuck yourself, buy CC), how it's used, how they tried to include a licensing clause that gave them ownership of everything you made with their software, truly unparalled turbojews.

The free software community can go fuck themselves as well. The amount of shit that doesn't work, that I have to manage myself with programs I have to build myself or use hacky Bash scripts to patch their incompetence is unbelievable. The whole time I'm doing it all I can think about is that I never had to deal with this shit on Windows or macOS, because even though their OS is a bloated piece of shit it manages to get the most basic concepts down and understands that the user expects shit to just work.

Most free software devs are also fucking lazy and refuse to add/fix shit because they don't think you need it. For example, VLC has a feature where you can go forward by one frame, but not backward. Someone else raised this issue on the VLC forums and one of the lead devs fucking exploded on him saying "it's not possible, you don't need that feature, we'd have to rewrite everything to get that to work, I hope your grandma gets AIDS, fuck off and die". Calmest libre software dev. And that doesn't even include Lennart Poettering who might as well be a lolcow at this point for all the narcissistic bullshit he's pulled ("I will set your free Linux system's default DNS to Jewgle's servers and needlessly mount EFI variables as read+write and open your system to potentially bricking itself because I fucking feel like it").

I'm working on my Win11 work PC. I'm pissed off at bullshit code, got 6 terminals in 3 screens and pathetically juggling 4 chores and tasks at once. I'm trying to focus and the fucking Whatsapp on my Android phone somehow keeps bypassing my focus mode/DND phone settings (literally the only motherfucker that bypasses it out of the apps I block) and so as is customary my fucking Xiaomi vibrates on my fucking pulse to COMMAND ME to see several empty squares because it cannot render emojis.

I'm already drooling, cognitive functions deteriorating, but regardless I need to go click on a systray icon. While on this gruesome journey of clicking the funny social media systray icon, Win11 decides to put up a notification to "try out Office 365!" (it does this randomly 2 times a week AFAIK) which somehow makes it impossible for me to click anywhere on the systray. Why is it giving me this ad when I already have WORD and EXCEL with a uni account, which is all I NEED?

I go take a shit for 10 minutes and come back and all the screens are turned off, which I can't fault the PC for. I slap the Ctrl key to get off idle mode and the screens just fucking go seizure mode not knowing where to put all the windows. 3 seconds of seizure mode and the windows are all misplaced. By this point I'm going back to the bathroom to order a spool of nice, firm rope to neck myself.

I hate computers so goddamn much kiwibros I sympathize greatly with @Null.
